Erin L. did an AMAZING job on my hair and provided me with a lovely experience. She took her time and made sure to perfect every detail with precision while providing a comfortable experience. She provided suggestions for products based off of my current product usage and made sure to ask questions about my hair, hair type & any issues I’ve been having with it so that she could address everything during my appointment. Next time you book, book with Erin! I will be back.

The only company on this street, for this neighborhood that had a huge thing of water for the dogs! You’re amazing! Great attention to everyone even those who aren’t your customers. TY! My pup TYs 2!

Edit: Based on the response I got back from 18|8 about the situation and their dismissal of my experience I am moving this review down to 1 star. The “closer shave” was what he did to my hair, not an actual shave. You can say Rex never talked to your employee that way but I can literally come down there and show you which employee it was. He did cut my ear and it was a deep cut. I went back because as I stated I was at least happy with how the haircut turned out at the time. You can stand by Rex all you want, I really don’t care. But enjoy your 1 star. As for the tips, I always tip. If you would like to refund the tips you are more than welcome to because he honestly doesn’t deserve it. Cheers I had very long hair and was nervous about cutting it. I came to 18|8 three different times in a day to get it to the length I wanted (I knew you could take more off but I knew you couldn’t add more). The 3 times I went to get the length I wanted were great…aside the fact that Rex did a deep cut on my ear that I was bleeding from pretty bad. which is the reason I’m leaving 2 stars instead of 1. Rex did good at first (for the most part). I wasn’t even really worried about my ear being cut because I was happy with the haircut. It’s worth noting that Rex didn’t even apologize for cutting my ear until AFTER the haircut when I was happy about it. It seems he has an issue admitting fault from the few times I’ve been there. Then a few weeks passed and I wanted to get it touched up but keep the length I had since I got it to the length I was looking for. Rex decided to take it to a closer shave and was doing things to my hair I didn’t ask for. When I made the comment “wow you’re cutting it short” his response was “well I warned you last time you were here that I was going to make it shorter.”???? No you didn’t? Why would we even have that conversation? Why would you warn me that my hair would have to be shorter than I wanted it?? There were two other girls there besides Rex when I came in for my last haircut. He told one of the girls she could go ahead and go home. The second girl was cleaning up and having to clean up for both girls because Rex said the first one could go home. The second girl wasn’t even complaining and Rex looks over at her and says, “You shouldn’t have let the other girl go home without helping you clean. That’s your fault.” No Rex, that’s your fault for telling the first girl she could go home first. I think Rex has too many 5 star reviews here tbh and I’ve been hesitant to leave this review for a couple of weeks now. But after much consideration I’ve decided that it’s justified. Gaslighting me to think that it’s my fault that my hair was getting cut shorter than I wanted and gaslighting your coworkers into thinking it’s their fault they have to do extra work when you’re the one who is in charge and sent the first one home is ridiculous. Idk if he just had a party week and wasnt in his right state of mind but I’m 100% never going back to 18|8 specifically because of Rex. Honestly not sure how he has so many good reviews. Overhyped in my opinion/experience. I wouldn’t have even bothered with a review if I didn’t see that Rex treats his employees worse than his customers. 2 stars is generous given my experience. My last haircut was choppy and when he went to dry off my ears it hurt from the cut he had made and I asked him to be careful because of the cut in which he just sighed and rolled his eyes. Sorry you cut me and it hurt when you went to dry me off? I started going to Birds Barbershop on South Congress and I pay half the price for a much better haircut (and no one has cut my ear so far).

I’ve gone to various 18|8 locations and have always had a fantastic experience – Carmen (@ the domain in Austin), Marta (the rim in San Antonio), and Rex (downtown Austin). Rex is exceptional with his razor work. Specifically, I went in here with a previously botched cut from out of state and he saved me. More than that, he provides compassionate customer service and is an empathetic service provider. Thankful for the 18|8 team. All those listed above are exceptional!

$90 plus dollars after tips when I merely requested hair cut and beard trim which still needed fixing afterwards. Nice guy but the whole thing took too long and was way too expensive.

I am VERY particular about who cuts my hair and used to rarely venture away from my trusted barbers. I’m very happy to say that Rex always exceeds my expectations and I wouldn’t dare let anyone else ever touch my hair. The entire staff at 18|8 is very friendly and have lots of respect towards their clientele. It is highly apparent, from check-in to payment that they care about each individual who walks in through their door. The negative reviews towards this spa are from SAD people who wouldn’t know a good haircut if it was right on their head (apparently).

I spent a lot of time finding the right barber in Austin and I struck GOLD with Lauren. She gave me EXACTLY what I asked for. I’ve seen her every two weeks for the last 5 months and I always leave her chair satisfied with the experience and the haircut.

This is first time I am visiting this location. I have long hair and carry a man bun. I just needed and lower fade or trim done , to get rid of the frizzy hair , ended up having a bad haircut and look. I think sometimes you listen to the barber suggestions and trust him to do a good job and say ok , but once you see the end result….bad very bad!!! I had to just go cut hair again at another salon. The person who cut my hair knows that he had to hurry up coz there were people waiting. Any ways I am never coming back to this location.

Worst haircut of my life. I should have read these reviews before booking an appointment. My stylist was very inexperienced, did not listen to my instructions and took almost 90 mins for what should have been an easy 30 min haircut. After all that time my cut is noticeably uneven, I’ll need to go somewhere else to fix it

$65 for a basic men’s haircut. I was caught offguard however still tipped tipped $15. So for $80 I still had hairs that were missed and were an inch plus longer than the properly groomed hair. Two expensive for a half a$$ haircut

Always nervous visiting barber shops while out of town but I needed one in a pinch and was able to book a same day appoint with America. She was excellent great conversation and loved the work she did! Only complaint is she's not close enough to my home state so I can come in regularly to her! Highly recommend also offers a refreshment while waiting.

Be careful with who you let cut your hair. I have had great previous experiences at the 18|8. However, today I had a hair cut and beard trim with Desmond that made me reconsider letting just anyone touching my hair again. Before starting, I showed him a picture I’d taken of myself with the hair length I desired. By the time I left, I was appalled by hair cut shorter than I’ve had in over a year and a half, a ton taken off the top, something that looks like a mullet gone awry in the back, and a screwy mustache. It’s so bad I spent the rest of the day distraught and embarrassed to show my face. Going to have to quiz barbers in the future to make sure they they know how to do their job moving forward.

First time here for my 11 year old son. Miss Sarah knocked it out of the park! No kids bowl cuts here. A top level stylish hair cut for my dude, without a fade or clippers. All scissor cut and a skilled cut! We love Sarah and have found our place and person. 🥰

I have had two different barbers here and they were both excellent! Yahen speaks a half dozen languages and is a fantastic barber. Rex always makes time for me as I have an extremely busy schedule and has given me my favorite haircut in a decade. After trying a half dozen places I highly recommend this barber shop! Sam is also very on time with all appointments and is very nice

People working at this location are untalented and have no idea what they’re doing. Got a terrible haircut that was nothing close to what I asked for. I haven’t had issues at their other locations. Go anywhere else

Rex is a master of his craft. I don’t go to any other salon in Austin for cut and style. The customer service is excellent and my hair has never looked better. Rex knows exactly how to shape and style hair to match the shape of the head and face. 5 stars!

Have been coming here for over a year and what was once an awesome establishment with skilled stylists has now lost its appeal. Some of their best stylists are no longer there and they have been replaced by amateurs. Today was the last chance when I tried a new stylist who was actually a barber and did a sub-par job at best. $45 + tip for a sub-par barber is outrageous.
