Overall the experience and customer service was good and the information about hair care was very insightful but my issue lies in the $75 drying fee. I had booked a bounce back transformation and curly cut which is essentially washing/detoxing my hair and getting a cut and in my circumstance I was cutting it much shorter than before, I understood that I had a claw clip in but in my opinion it is redundant to charge a drying fee to see the “shape” of my curls when I’m already paying hundreds for a hair detoxing/washing service that will have to be dried in the end anyways. I think that takes away from the experience , I understand paying for the work your stylist puts in and their time but I feel like it’s counterintuitive charging a fee for something you’re already going to do in the service I booked.

This was my first curly cut & my stylist was Yvette. I had an amazing experience! I was so unsure on the process and what I wanted. Yvette was so knowledgeable and made everything so easy to understand. She was great helping me figure out what I wanted & what would work best. She was attentive and so much fun! Definitely recommend.

I loved going to my haircut with Emily, she was very kind and the service was incredible, I love my hair even though I was a little afraid of cutting it short, I loved it and I will come back here a thousand times.

I was excited to get a refresh with my curly hair and saw great reviews for this salon however I was disappointed in the outcome. I booked with Emily who was very sweet and answered any questions I had, however I asked for layers which I don't believe I received, and a few face framing pieces, the minimal face framing pieces I do now have go inches past where we discussed even with my hair fully dried and curly. The appointment ended with Emily telling me my hair would only be 50-70% dry upon leaving which made the above things hard to catch and left me feeling short-changed. Additionally, while the appointment was 2 hours long, it felt like the care that went into the actually cutting/reviewing portion wasn't at the level I've received elsewhere. I feel like I could've gone somewhere else to get a similar haircut for a 1/4 of the price.

Great experience with Yvette! Very knowledgable in curly cuts. Gave me my first ever "short" curly cut, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

I need to be honest about my experience here. While I believe that the stylists here are very experienced and knowledgeable, my personal experience wasn’t the best. I felt like my stylist didn’t want to listen to what I wanted or my questions about my options with my cut. It really didn’t feel like a welcoming environment when it came to talking about what I wanted. I paid nearly $200 for what felt like a pretty regular haircut. I have another curly cut scheduled now at another salon so I can get what I wanted from the beginning. Again, I believe they have the knowledge and expertise but I didn’t feel heard or welcomed to share what I wanted to do on the hair that sits on my head and for a haircut that I am paying for.

See my before and after photos. I got a hair cut here with Emily. She is the sweetest and most professional. She took time to walk me through how to care for my hair properly. She cut it dry and without product so the outcome was perfect. She’s helping me heal my damage and went way out of her way in both time and consideration to make sure I was comfortable with the cut. She spent a ton of extra time ensuring I knew how to care for it at work, in a foreign country for my upcoming move, and in my personal life. She’s amazing. 10/10, would recommend to anyone looking for a curly cut of any texture.

Amanda does an amazing job on curly hair. Not only is her technique great but she listens to what your hair goals are and she shows you how to correctly style for curly hair. You also get to try out different hair products every time and see how they work on your hair.

After a butcher job almost 20 years ago, I refused to let anyone cut my hair more than an inch. Emily was willing to help me through my fear, talk me through the process, teach me how to take care of it, and most importantly she taught me how to love my hair again. Thank you Emily. Emily is a 11/10 stylist and a 11/10 human! I have always struggled to find a stylist either because my hair always seems so unmanageable or because I just get anxious about conversing but she is so sweet and so knowledgeable. I recommend her to friends across the country because she's just fabulous.

I came to Amanda with dry, frizzy, self-cut hair and she made a master piece from it. My curl pattern is around 3a/b and she had no issues reading my hair like a book. She’s so easy to talk to, so fun to talk to. She’s super down to earth and relatable. This is my first ever curly cut and I’m over the moon. I’ve been trimming/cutting my hair myself for as long as I can remember and it’s gotten to a point now where I needed professional help. Amanda was not judgmental at all and I felt like she understood where I was coming from. She didn’t make me feel bad or dumb for not knowing how to do basic maintenance on my hair correctly. She was actually very helpful in her approach. I appreciated the way she never came across as condescending. You can tell she truly has a love and passion for what she does. I’m not someone who is attached to length, so I had no issue letting Amanda do what was best. I will 100% recommend Amanda and anyone else with 4-8-0. I can’t wait to see how she helps my curls grow and thrive in the future.

I have gotten curly haircuts from Amanda, Emily, and Yvette and they are hands down the best haircuts I have ever received. You cannot go wrong booking with any of them. They are knowledgeable and professional and have turned me on to techniques and products that have made my curly hair look the best it's ever looked! Highly recommend!

This was my very first haircut with long curly hair, so I was definitely nervous about finding the right place since I knew I’d need a lot of guidance and recommendations from the stylist. Amanda not only made sure to clearly understand my long term hair goals, but also took my hair to the next level, and explained her process every step of the way. I cannot recommend enough!! Today I had an appointment with Yvette for my very 1st curly cut. I been cutting my own curls for 3 years now and I needed help with how heavy my hair was overall and shaping of my curls. She is wonderful in her knowledge and wonderful to talk to. Such a relaxed person who took care of my hair and gave me exactly what I asked for. I will be seeing her in the future when I need another trim done. No more cutting my own hair lol

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Emily. I have been going to her for my curly hair for a couple of years now and every time I leave the salon I feel empowered to love my curls and she teaches me how to take care of them. Emily explains what products work best for my hair and how to get my best curly style and cut. Before seeing Emily I had never left a salon liking the way the stylist fixed my hair and now I love walking out of her salon.

I had my first curly cut with Amanda this past Saturday, and I can say, hands down, this is the most amazing haircut I’ve ever had in my entire life. I lost chunks of hair as a side effect of a surgery I had over a year ago, so my formerly voluminous curly hair was flat and didn’t have any shape to it. I had it cut by my regular hairstylist in my hometown back in December, but my hair still remained flat and my curls didn’t really bounce back like they used to. Amanda is an ARTIST and CURL DOCTOR because she cut my hair and gave it so much shape and volume and gave me the prescription to treat my hair with the proper type of products and in which order to use them in. I am currently using my old products, at least until they run out, and even using the techniques she taught me, my curls look better than they have since my surgery. I will definitely be coming back to get my hair cut! Side note: I really appreciate that Amanda showed me the products she used for my hair, and showed me less expensive alternatives you can buy at Walmart or Target to use in replacement of the more pricey ones she used during my appointment. It’s such a thoughtful consideration for those who may not have the money to purchase pricey hair products but still want to look and feel their best.

I took my very curly haired 12 year old daughter here for a cut as a birthday treat. She wanted shorter hair and after a few experiences getting poofy triangle shapes— even at higher end salons— I decided we needed to get her to some place that understands curls. Amanda did her hair and did a wonderful job connecting with her and teaching her how to maintain her routine (in a very age appropriate, manageable way). Specifically, she used very descriptive words/terms to teach— such as to make sure her hair was wet enough that it sounded like wet sneakers when she scrunched it. That kind of teaching is so valuable to kids. My daughter’s cut turned out fantastic— no words to describe how thrilled we both were with the outcome. I purchased basically all the products Amanda recommended and, altogether, my total was about double the service. That’s entirely what I expected and I was fine with it for a birthday treat. My only feedback is I feel as a parent the cut is a lot to pay for a tween/teen. I totally understand that the stylist’s time and effort is the same as an adult, and that other salons would charge similarly. It’s not that I think 480’s pricing is off; it’s that I have a hard time paying that much for my kid on a routine basis. The problem is, no one handles curls quite so well. So I guess, fair warning, you will likely want to plan for more than one visit because the results are great.

I travel more than 2 hours for my appointments with Emily! Before finding her and 480 salon I thought I knew how to handle my curly hair. Emily taught me how to maneuver my curls.. wash my hair properly...explained how curly hair behaves .. best products for different types of holds.... different reviews on products.... I was comfortable styling my own hair for a formal event with all the skills Emily has taught me. Definitely worth the trip every time I go.

I've never gotten a hair cut specifically for the needs of my curly hair. I've now been twice and each time, I was asked very specific questions on what I wanted and my expectations. I made it clear that I didn't really proper experience wearing it naturally and Amanda made sure to go through each step of the process. I really feel like, haircut aside, I got a private lesson on how to best take care of MY hair based of MY lifestyle. She happily answered all my questions and she made sure to use the products I told her I have used before so I didn't leave feeling like I had to start over with my product selections. Definitely recommend!

It is always hard to find a salon that can cut and is knowledge about curly hair but I am glad I found this place. Emily has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now and does a great job every time. I have learned many great tips for my curly hair and discover new products. I would definitely recommend 480 Salon and Emily if you have curly hair.

Love this salon! I’m new to the curly hair journey and needed some guidance. Emily was so sweet and knowledgeable. I love that the salon still requires masks and takes cleaning their space seriously (UV phone sanitizer, what?!) Emily was honest with how long it will probably take my stressed upper layers to get their curl and helped me with some curl training tips. Two days post cut and my upper layers are holding more wave than they have in the past and I have a few gorgeous ringlets on the underside. This salon has good knowledge and good hearts, the best!

I have been to the Deva Curl Salon in NYC and Amanda does the same education and style that I would receive at a top notch salon in the city. As a Level 3 Deva Curl professional, she knows her craft. She is a hair care professional who takes continuing education courses regularly to sharpen her skill. She was able to help me with some color correction I needed after attempting to see a non curly girl stylist. The ladies are the curly hair go to pros in San Antonio! If you have curly hair and have never been educated on how to take care of it or style it, the 4-8-0 team is a must see. Thank you, ladies, for all that you do.

I’ve been going to Emily at 480 Hair Salon since 2020, and refuse to get my hair done anywhere else! I had never gotten a curly cut prior to my first appointment, and found this salon by looking up certified devacut salons. I was so impressed with the way my hair looked after, that I knew I had to keep coming back. I always have a great experience here :)
