Jamal is a very unprofessional person. My wife took my 4 year old son for a haircut and he did not cut well. He kept yelling at her and my son that he is not sitting still. He left the haircut half finished and told my wife- “Bring your husband along with you next time” Highly unprofessional guy and doesn’t know how to talk to women. My son had to be taken to another salon same evening to get his haircut completed. Avoid this guy at all costs!!

Jamal is my stylist for last 5 years or so. Every time, he is consistent and professional. I believe there is no match to his work in RTP. And my entire family echo the same. He is the best in the business. Cheers and thanks to A1 Salon and Staff.

CONSISTENT CONTRACTION... My experience was like the headline states, regularly expressing one thing and ultimately providing another. I will list below some of my frustrations in attempting to make this my new location for hair services. Cannot say I share the sentiments of other reviewers (which was a factor in booking). The overall cut was not terribly bad, but it was not what we discussed and not an overall pleasant experience. * During consultation, Jamal highlights how he teaches students that "it's not hair left on the floor, but what is left on the head [customer]". Good line, quite true, and implies the style that remains is what matters most. OK, I agree... then why after expressing my satisfaction with the length does he proceeds to cut off more hair? * Says he doesn't know about my preferences because I'm new and he rather ask. Again, I agree... then why didn't he ask BEFORE cutting off my side burns and butchering my neck with a straight blade razor (see pic)? * Detailed cut scheduled, but doesn't trim ears at all... either actual ears nor where ear meets hair line. Not a "formal" /detailed service for a men's buzz and cut based on my 3+ decades receiving men's cuts. * Charges for a rinse (not discussed) AFTER paying a rate of $10 greater then the standard haircut price. With the "upgraded" full cut & a shampoo, total time was only 35 minutes (including the "consult" for a new customer) * $45 "formal" cut + $5 shampoo add-on + a 15% tip (which I immediately regretted), the rate issue is compounded by not disclosing the fourth fee (payment processing) until AFTER the card is charged. That is a blatant violation of the service providers' contracts and I'm fairly confident is illegal. Following an experience involving not properly listening, arguing with the customer about MY hair, cutting off too much, and taking multiple actions to my detriment... there's a THIRD service fee (formal cut/ shampoo/ payment system fee) adding insult to literal injury. Seriously?!

Disappointed!! I would be very careful and ask them what all you’d be charged for. I wanted a balayage and a bang trim. I paid $400 for that. He charged me for a blowdry!! A blowdry!! Which was just basically straightening my hair. So in other words, he would have left my hair wet if I wasn’t paying for it. I could have taken my dryer to the salon and did it myself had he told me before that blowdrying, mind you, blowdrying was an additional cost. I have been to so many esthetically pleasing salons and this isn’t a good salon.

Expert in a fine salon. AI Salon is my lucky find; I was a walk-in, as there was a no-show. Jamal cut my hair to top-of-the-shoulder length the way I have wanted it for ages. I did not have to explain my wishes or show a picture of my desired style - he gets it. He is an expert stylist. Devin is also a fine professional in the salon. Will be going for a color correction soon.

I can’t express enough about how I just got the best color and cut I’ve ever had in my life! Jamal transformed my streaky highlights to a vibrant warm brown. Customer service is sincere and fun. There’s no crowd and no rush but appointments will be filled quickly if you wait too long as the phone was ringing for the next earliest appointment. Delicious baklava and tea always available. Favorite part: Doesn’t mind taking the creative steering wheel if you ask for help. Before and after pictures attached.

I did pink color last year and I did blue color today. Jamal is amazing. I loved both hair colors. I am so happy with my blue color and my haircut. He understood what I wanted and knows how to work with my hair type. My two boys have long hair and got haircuts with him last week and they are happy with what he did. Great hairstylist.

Jamal did an amazing job with my hair! I got it colored elsewhere and needed some correction and he made it look absolutely perfect. Also, the blow out looked gorgeous. He is a true talent. Can't recommend him enough. Devon who washed my hair was super sweet. Will definitely be back for a cut and color in the future. A great experience all around!!

This salon is the best in the area!! I have pretty curly hair and it’s dark and Jamal was able to work with it and lighten it to the exact shade I wanted. He also gave me layers which look phenomenal. The other stylist Devin was so sweet and had the greatest energy. I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend:)

I discovered A1 just a few months ago, and I have been very impressed. Every time I leave the salon, I can't stop looking in the mirror. Jamal does such a great job! I don't think I could go anywhere else now.

I had a great experience. Haircuts make me nervous because I've had a few bad ones. Not with A1 Salon. My haircut was exactly how I wanted it and it was professionally done. You could tell he had a lot of experience and knew exactly what he was doing. I'd definitely come back again.
