Please don’t waste your time at this place. I took my daughter here and the lady who does knotless braids is very rude. They will work in your head and switch over to another head without washing their hands or the tools they used. You will get cheated when the owner is not around so if you go make Koumba is there are be prepared to be cheated out of you money. Customer service is poor and be prepared for them to talk about you.

I’ve been twice to this place but definitely not going back. Probably it’s just not for everyone but my experience is overall negative. The staff is not friendly and makes you feel like they don’t want you to be there. The service is good for the price… except that they charge me almost double what they charge me the first time for very similar service. Very unprofessional at the least. Do not recommend.

I had an amazing experience at Koumba Braiding! The braiders did an incredible job with my hair – I couldn’t be happier with the results. The style came out exactly how I wanted, and I’ve received so many compliments! What really stood out to me was their flexibility in scheduling. With my busy schedule, it’s hard to find time, but they made it so easy to accommodate my availability. The service was professional, efficient, and the environment was warm and welcoming. I highly recommend Koumba Braiding to anyone looking for great quality work and excellent customer service!

The only thing I didn't like is I had a very hard time getting a direct price even when I told them exactly what I wanted from size to length, picture as an example included. I don't like being surprised with a price at the end. I like to know how much my service will be and if anything changes due to my hair length etc I want to know before my service is started. Bijou did such a beautiful job on my braids! She did exactly what I wanted. I was nervous because this was the first time coming to this shop but they did not disappoint. The shop is clean, everyone is so nice and welcoming. I would like to come back but I want to know at least a quote of how much my service will be and once I get there if the quote needs to be adjusted I want to know before my service is started.

Amazing hair salon! I have a very sensitive scalp so I always ask my braiders not to do my hair too tight. It's the next day after getting small, waist length box braids and they're totally painless! I also had two people working on my hair so it was very fast considering the size and length. They can tuck your natural hair color as well!

scheduled today to 5pm. texted her before 2 hr didn’t replied. showed up 4:45pm and the workers said she is off today. and i have i flight to Vegas without hair braids. 🤷

I can't believe I'm writing this review at 1:30am because Koumba cancelled on me before my 9am appointment just now. When I responded trying to figure out a solution or a reschedule she just... didn't respond at all. Incredibly unprofessional, left me scrambling to find someone else because I have a big event on Wednesday. Not good at responding, had to reach out many times to confirm my appointment. If you need someone reliable stay far away. Thanks for nothing! Edit: If you're in San Diego, you know the storm cleared up last night and was barely a problem. There is no rain, no wind, and no flooding. I had an 8am appointment this morning that she drove to, and she had no issues and was shocked that someone would cancel an appointment over this. There would be no "risking your life." You still did not respond to me when I asked to reschedule, and canceled at 1am giving me barely any time to find someone else. Probably just got busy partying or something and didn't want to go into an early appointment. You had plenty of time to cancel beforehand as the weather was VERY much predicted for several days, and canceled when the storm had already passed. Nice try though

Wasted my time and money. Rude service- unable to schedule an appointment online and when I get there - there were only two payment options Zelle or Venmo- never said anything during our text message exchange. My braids are already coming out and it hasn’t even been a week. Simple style- smh

setting up an appointment was very easy! i went in for a consultation one day & was able to get an appointment the next day. the place is clean & comfortable, everyone is so kind and professional, prices are reasonable ($240 with braiding hair already included) and i absolutely LOVEEE my hair! i was wanting an effortless, unfinished look & it exceeded my expectations and turned out so much more beautiful than i imagined- thank you so much <33

My experience here was not great! I booked my appointment for 9:30am and no one was there. I waited 30mins before the shop doors was unlocked. Then I was told that there would be an increase in price due to hair( was not the price previously discussed). After that I had to wait an additional 20 mins before my hair actual got started, they proceeded to service another client that came in after me. In the mix of the process there was multiply unprofessional breaks from the stylist and her partner. For example, she stopped braiding my hair to fix her self ramen cup noddles( no break was offer to me at no point of service)then, once noddles were down proceeds to braid my hair as she is slurping the noddles down. At the end, she try to cut my natural hair that you see sticking out of the braid it’s self( stop her before she could of course). I expressed that I was not satisfied with the service and was told that my hair “was too square” for the reason hair was sticking out.The photos attached is how my hair looked after an 8 hour appointment! My overall experience was horrible and I will not be booking again!

This was my first time at this salon, it was recommended to me by a friend. I was nervous about going to a braiding shop because I am tender headed, but I will definitely be back! I got medium knotless braids to my mid-back for a very reasonable price which included the hair, and I was done in 5 hours. They tag team clients’ hair and it makes for an efficient experience. I told Koumba prior to starting that I am tender headed and she listened and kept checking in to make sure I was okay. Would highly recommend!

Made me wait 30 mins w an appt. Said I soft hair and that the stylist didn’t braid that kind of hair. I have 3c hair. Braided wayyy too tight so I had to take the style down bc there were blisters on my head. I called with concern and was told I was overreacting. I’ve had my hair braided several times before but was spoken to like it was my first. I had breakage and felt ripped off 360 dollars. If they were willing to approach their clients by a case by case basis instead intentionally going against what works for the client I’d be able to give a better review. Was supposed to last two months it didn’t even last two weeks.

They squeezed me in with 2 days notice and made booking easy via text message. I went in with a picture and a dream. I'm not from San Diego, so I was walking in on faith, but I left walking on cloud 9. I got cornrows to clean up for a work event and I looked and felt amazing! The price was perfect and didn't break my budget. The environment was friendly and welcoming. Everytime I come to San Diego for work, I WILL be stopping here. Thank you SO much for taking care of me. I got a ridiculous amount of compliments for yall work.

I came to this place last month to get box braids and they came out great not only that the price wasn’t crazy. And the Sista's in there were so welcoming and kind had some dope convos I highly recommend this place for my brothas and Sista’s out there they’ll get you right ✊🏽👌🏾

Omg you wouldn’t believe the day before I walked in this shop. My birthday is Tommrow and I had appointments booked since the end of February and they all cancelled the day of. THE DAY BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY !!! Do you know how serious that is ? Anyways these ladies took me in , communicated very well with me and got me in and out I came in at 2 and left at 6. I am so grateful and pleased with my hair. It’s neat , beautiful, and it was quick ! I will be coming back thank you ladies for the lovely experience !

This is my second time coming to this shop and each time the braiders have been amazing. I came in and asked for small boho box braids and that's exactly what I got. Small parts to match the braids.
