Price paid was different than what was listed I paid $100 for a blow out and trim. He also left scars on my scalp from the smoothing iron being to close! I guess it's time to find another stylist

Extremely disappointed with my experience at Amalay Dominican and Beauty Spa on South Boulevard. I visited today Saturday, 4/13, hoping to treat my 10-year-old daughter to a simple hair wash and blowout, only to be quoted a staggering $120. While I understand pricing may vary, especially in Dominican salons, what truly irked me was the remark made by the stylist. He suggested a 'super deep conditioner,' insinuating my daughter's hair needed extra treatment, which was discriminatory and disrespectful. My daughter has European roots too her hair is dry not coarse. To add insult to injury, the stylist conveniently forgot our previous interaction, where he charged significantly less $70 for the same service and with my daughter’s hair in the same condition. He needed to be 100% and just say he was only the one and he didn’t want to do her today. This inconsistency, coupled with the inappropriate comment, left a sour taste in my mouth. It's disheartening to encounter such attitudes in a place meant to promote beauty and self-care. My hope is that both the establishment and its staff reflect on the importance of inclusivity and respect for all hair types and backgrounds, especially being of African descent. Just because your hair may have a European feel doesn’t mean you have any less African in your blood. One star for the service, and that's being generous.

First time walking to the business after booking my appointment online and no one is there to greet you. Finally, the stylist arrives and asked me what type of service I wanted. I showed her pics since my hair is curly and she tells me that she can’t cut my hair and that someone else needs to do it. She asked me when can you come back? Excuse me? I made the appointment at a certain time for a reason. I found that very unprofessional especially that I am not an established client. Waste of my time.

This shop does a great blowout service for natural hair! Started right on time as soon as I walked in, my stylist Ms Rosario was gentle with my hair from washing to blowing out and gave a great trim. Definitely recommend this shop for good quality blowouts!

Franklin is the best with eyebrows mircoblanding! Truly it's been amazing not to spend time drawing and filling in my eyebrows!! Truly perfect shape and color that he drew and matched my complexion! And now going back for a retouch after 14 more months! Yes, it's costly to get started but it's worth it!

I am honestly blown away. I called yesterday and asked if they had any availability for a walk-in. Blowout + trim. Franklin said yes and I came over right away. I’m not sure of the lady who did my hair but she was AMAZING! My hair came out exactly the way I wanted it…actually better than I envisioned. The salon is such a vibe and they use top tier products. I will 1000% make this my usual spot for blow outs, trims, and deep conditioning treatments. They also have a nail salon area in the shop if you need those services as well. My hair has never looked or felt this good. Thank you to Franklin and his team. Y’all are incredible!! :)

I came in for a layered cut and blow out, Franklin does an amazing job and I will not be going anywhere else for a blow out ! This is my 3rd time at this establishment and I have to say go to Franklin every time ! He will get you right!! Thank you😊

I went here for a Dominican blowout appointment on 4/19 and today 4/23 I see a huge burn on my scalp on my hairline! This was my first time here and while the man who was doing my hair (Franklin) was flat ironing it, I could feel that he would often burn my scalp. The flat iron would touch my scalp multiple times when he would be straightening one section, and of course it would hurt. I didn’t mind at first because my hair looked great. I have very curly hair and it looked very silky straight. My scalp wasn’t hurting afterwards so I didn’t pay it any mind. It’s not until a few days later that I see a pretty big burn scar on my hairline. I have not put any heat tools on my hair since my appointment, so this burn scar is from Franklin flat ironing my hair. This really upsets me as I was planning on coming back regularly for more blowouts but this burn right on the front of my hairline (very hard to hide) is quite upsetting and I’d be worried something similar could happen again. Unfortunately I don’t think I would risk coming back again.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I came here requesting natural copper highlights on my brown hair and instead ended up with a full head of brassy yellow/ orange hair that looked nothing like the picture I showed him. On top of that they processed my hair so much that it is now falling out and I have a million spilt ends and extremely damaged hair. They offered to “tone it down” for free but still was going to charge me for a wash for coming back. $350 dollars later I am devastated at the condition and color of my hair and am going somewhere else to hopefully help me.

Terrible experience! The other rentals suite owners had to repeatedly call the guy for Amalay. He finally surfaces, washes my hair and leaves me under the dryer forever. I had to find him and found him in the back smoking. Then he argues with me and says he doesnt want to finish my hair. A waste of time

They will clean your packets! For a bad job! Keep away from this place !! The worse place I have ever been in my life. I asked him to do a permanent keratine he said he could, he died my hair. My hair was falling as he burned, so he charged me 450 to died my hair and a keratine which he never did. He did a deep conditioning. After 3 days the keratine wasn’t there lol then he dare to ask for 85 dollars more !! He had 4 clients on the chair and he was the only one “doing the job” I do not recommend this place. And this is not to mentioned that I should have run from the moment I heard him talking about deceiving the … but that’s for another topic with another people. If you go there I feel sorry for you. Waste of money and time. I have never met a person who lies as has not shame about doing it. He clearly has not remorse for what he does. If you read good things about him I doubt is real clients. Because the for of us spoke to him about what he did to our hairs and it wasn’t pretty. Keep away from this place ! Reply: When you are dishonest and robe people is natural you “won’t “ remember the service you provide. Dishonest People don’t deserve to have a business like yours. And I’m not talking about he said how he cheated to the Taxes as he cheats his customers. Lesson learned!

Way too expensive. I washed my hair, did rollers, & a blow out and was charged $75. My hair is shoulder length and on the thinner side. Most of the time she flat ironed it and didn’t even blow dry it well.

First time visiting only got a wash, condition and blow out and was charged $73.50 Way too expensive for that I could see if I received color or something. Customer service was good and fast but I will not recommend nor will I visit that salon again. I have never paid over $45 for the service I get.

I arrived at my scheduled time which was 10am. The stylist I was scheduled with, was not there. I had to wait almost 30 minutes until he arrived to the salon. I let it go because it wasn’t a deal breaker to me. I went ahead and got my hair washed and he went to style me. I’ve gotten a blown out multiple times in my life. I never Experienced so much pulling on my hair. It was to the point when I washed my hair after getting a blow out and it was so much thinner. My hair is severely damaged from him trying to rush through my blowout. I understand that my hair is really long and the salon was packed but I reserved and paid for my style. I’ve never seen my hair this damaged before and I will not be going back there.

I found this business on booksy and tried to book a nail appointment, which they had a few time slots open and many taken already. Each time I booked a time, a staff member canceled my appointment. I called the shop and asked why were they cancelling each appointment and the owner tells me, “i don’t have anyone to do it. But walk in and maybe they can fit you in if they have time.” I ask what time would be best to try and walk in, owner says around lunch is fine. So I walk in at 11:30. The place is full and I’m not greeted by any staff. No one is at the front desk. Finally someone walks up to the desk only because a customer is checking out. They ask me if I’m the one who called about the nails, and he says he doesn’t have anyone to do it today. So if they did not have anyone, why did they tell me to walk in ??? I went next door to the other nail salon and they were not a disappointment.

I was able to schedule an appointment the same day very easily online. They were friendly upon arrival and during my services. I received a blowout and deep conditioning treatment which exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be coming back!

Horrible experience...please avoid this place!!!! This was my first time visiting this location and last. The owner and only licensed hair stylist was NOT available to take any customers at the time of my arrival. I made an appointment thru Books and booked as new customer, he was aware of my visit as I schedule a consultation prior to my booked service. The service I booked was hair color and the Books APP quested $88 per hour for hair coloring. He gave instructions to his apprentice over the phone and refuse to give any pricing until service was completed. My hair and scalp was fried. Once my service was completed the apprentice call the owner for pricing and he quoted me $290 This took me back by surprise and I asked to speak with him. She handed me the phone and he claims this was a "fantasy" color. I felt robbed. We agree on a discounted price of $250 and I demand he paid his apprentice as he is known not to pay them for their work. I left the apprentice a tip and left that place in tears. My dermatologist confirmed my scalped was burned and I am currently treating my burns. Please avoid this place!!!!

Made an appointment for a quick brow wax online, got an email that it had been confirmed. Showed up for my appointment and stood at the front desk area for 15 minutes. One employee walked by and didn’t acknowledge me, ended up waking out 20 minutes after my appointment time since nobody ever helped me. Ended up doing a walk in at another business close by. Not sure what the issue is but it was a big waste of time.
