I’ve gotten my hair done by Cynthia a few times now and she always does a fabulous job with my hair!! She takes her time to really make sure I am happy with the cut. Highly recommend a cut or color with her!

They assured me they could style curls/waves but did not have a diffuser or a microfiber towel. Left with hair wet. Diffusers have been around since the 80s and are not a recent trend.

Double check your appointment actually made it on their books. I showed up and they didn’t have my apt on the book, the person asked to see my email confirmation, i showed it to her and she didn’t seem to care much. It was 3:30 and she acted like she could maybe squeeze any kind of service in before her 4 pm. She said sorry but yea… not professional.

Jaime did a phenomenal job at fixing a botched balayage that was done at another salon. I was initially really nervous to go to another stylist I didn’t know anything about since that’s how I ended up with the orange skunk streaks. We first met for a consultation to see what could and couldn’t be done. Jaime listened carefully to what my goal was while remaining practical about what can and can’t be done (without destroying my hair). This made me feel better than someone blindly saying that whatever I wanted could be done without even meeting me or seeing my hair. Soon after, I went in to get my hair fixed and I’m in LOVE with my hair. I will definitely be going back to get my hair touched up before I have to move to the east coast 😊😊😊

After a year long search, I am so happy to say that I have found the best hairstylist in Portland, Gary! Coming from Los Angeles where I was spoiled with many amazing stylist choices, I have tried multiple different highly rated salons in the area but have not been happy with the end result. But that changed today after my haircut with Gary. Gary is the best of the best, he truly understands and is well experienced in the industry. He listens and provides his clients with the best service in the PNW. Gary could be and should be charging way more for his sessions, he is one of the most talented stylists I have ever met. We are lucky to have him in Portland. If you are searching for a stylist or just an appointment for a trim, please don’t let my year long search go to waste and just book your appointment with Gary - trust me!

After getting a terrible haircut at another salon (and thinking that there was not much to do but resign myself to growing it out) I was able to get in for a last minute appointment with Ally in the hopes that she could at least even it out. Instead, she transformed my hair and I left loving my new cut. Experience and skills make a difference -- and Ally's got them. I also love the emphasis on apprenticeship for new stylists. Thank you, Ally and team Appel Nouveau for making my day. Very happy with my new cut and equally happy to support a locally-owned and women-owned business in Portland!

Had a wonderful experience with Cece who did a color and cut after 15 months without one. She listened carefully to what I wanted and delivered a result much better than I could have hoped for. She was also charming and great company. Good value for money. The salon in general is great - I chatted with another stylist there who has some celebrity customers, and that type of place can be snotty - not at all here though, everything about him and the place was kind and friendly. Could not recommend highly enough.

I have been getting my hair done with Cece (@ceceliarosehair on Instagram) for over a year now and she is the BEST! She was the first person to ever bleach my hair and she did an amazing job so I kept coming back! Every time I leave the salon I feel so confident and beautiful. She is great at all things hair and makes the experience so fun! I have the best time at each appointment! Cece is a wonderful person who will give you your dream hair! 10/10 recommend Cece!! 5/5 stars!! She is the absolute BEST!! In regards to COVID Appel Nouveau Salon is doing a great job to ensure that everyone is safe and healthy. I feel totally comfortable and safe at Appel Nouveau Salon. Everything is very clean! I could not recommend this salon or Cece more! Hair days are my favorite days of all time and I never feel more confident than when I am in Cece's chair!!

I have been going to Kirsten for hair color and styling for over ten years. I trust her implicitly to keep my look current and stylish. She is a real artist and pro when it comes to hair color. She just recently completed giving me the Balayage hair color and it looks amazing! I will never trust anyone else to touch my hair. Also, the salon is a happy place with a positive energy vibe. I am a natural brunette and have been my entire life. In light of all the 2020 madness, I wanted a change. I went in for a balayage to lighten my hair and absolutely love it!!! My colorist was Kirsten (the owner) and she was an absolute professional and does an amazing job! Not only do I love my hair but I was completely comfortable and impressed with all the COVID precautions they are taking. Great job, highly recommend.

I have been going to this salon for almost a year now. The first time I went, I got scheduled for the next day for a total hair transformation (brunette with highlights to platinum blonde) with Ally, and she was able to do it all in one session beautifully. It has been a year now getting my blonde updated, but this most recent time I decided to do a balayage with my darker roots and a shorter cut, and yet again she made me feel and look so pretty. Every time I go they offer a drink (they have wine, coffee, water, tea, and I think beer). They are very proffesional, clean, and I love the decoration of the entire place. I absolutely reccomend coming here, it is the best salon I have ever been to, and is definitely worth the price due to the quality. The prices are to be expected at an upscale salon, my appointments cost $150-160 to do a haircut and get my roots redone, just $100 for just getting my roots done and a trim. I use to go back to Canada every year, because I couldn't for the life of me find a good hair dresser to handle my asian hair right. Gary Glossman amazing creative master stylist. I am very happy with my hair. The layering is on point👌. Gave me a lot more natural volume and life to my hair. Good with Asian hair.

Very upset with the outcome of our session. My husband searched for hours and did his research about finding the best place in portland to get my hair done. Google lead me to Appel Nouveau Salon. We asked for ombre, and she said she could do it after the lady was done I said that does not look like the pic we showed and she gave us all the reasons why it didn't happen and then after all said and done she did not try to fix the results just said OK that will be 200 I really thought about just walking out but I understand that she has to make a living to but I will never ever go back and make sure I spread the word not to go there all it looks like she did was highlights for 200

Went in for a consult for color (going lighter) with owner. I thought she was a bit sassy. She also said she was very busy and passed me off to a newer stylist to be included in consult to later work on me. So there was a plan. They talked about colors etc. I came in a couple weeks later like they asked me to. This stylist didn't remember the consult and the plan. Sigh... i told her again what i wanted done. She spent two hours applying foils and bleach/color only on the roots to about a third of the way down. I asked what she was going to do about the rest of the hair and she told me “nothing”. What? So 2.5 hours later is the blowdry and at first i thought i liked it but in the natural light it looked pretty sad. It looked like streaks and a friend said it looked like she put a cap on and pulled though some pieces to color. Lol. Needless to say... not going back for their services
