I recently visited BJ’s Hair Shop, (12-10-24) and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! I came in with dark, dirty blonde hair and was looking to get both a new layered cut and a bold platinum color. From start to finish, the team was fantastic. Drake and Doris , along with the other stylists, were so knowledgeable and attentive. They listened to exactly what I wanted and helped me choose the perfect shade of platinum that complemented my skin tone beautifully. The layers turned out exactly as I imagined. The entire process was smooth, and the salon has a welcoming, professional atmosphere. I love my new look and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend BJ’s Hair Shop! The staff are very kind . I do not have a before photo but an after is listed below

While traveling to Hot August Nights, we realized our teenager was suffering from a serious case of bed head that wouldn't quit. Lol. Did a little searching and found this shop. While they didn't have immediate walk-in availability, we visited with an appointment the next day. It was conveniently located within a 5 min walk of the Big Boy's Toy Store, so win win. Loved the vibe inside, comfy barber chairs in the waiting area, and super friendly stylist that knew what she was doing and did it well! We will certainly return if/when we're back in the area.

edited from previous review several years ago: Appointment system did not work. My wife and I had a 6pm appointment today after having asked for simultaneous service by 2 stylists while making the appointment by phone. There were 2 but only one available for us. My wife got served starting at 6:15pm. When her cut had been completed at about 6:40pm, I decided not to have my turn and to look for another place on another day. Her haircut is good.

We LOVE BJ’s! BJs is all about a family friendly vibe with professional-barber results, and we’ve never seen another other place come close to this local gem. I always tell Doris I feel like I’m visiting a relative’s house from back in the day, what with the open fridge, great music and all around warm welcome she extends to everyone who walks through her door. As for the cuts - the point of all this! - they’re precise, clean, well tailored to each client, and fast. My sons are really young, but I still want them to have hair a grown man would be proud of, and that’s exactly what they get at BJ’s (sometimes with a trendy college kid or a big ol’ biker in the next chair over). When we first walked in, BTW, our boys were barely older than toddlers. Thanks to the patience, generosity and incredible kindness of the staff here, they’ve gone from nervous little kids in booster seats to confident young men who can’t wait for their turn in the chair. (Peyton had everything to do with this, and even cut my youngest kid’s hair on the floor once, because that’s where he wanted to sit while she coddled him and spoiled him rotten. Man, she was incredible.) Thanks for all y’all do! TLDR: Skillful cuts, warm hearts and ambience that is very cool but unpretentious. :)

A specific shout-out to Ashley. We're a group of four adult guys that scheduled for 2:30 and 3:00. When we arrived Ashley was by herself. The other stylist had a family emergency, obviously not that persons fault, but worth noting. Despite likely having a rough day and being flustered, Ashley was friendly, attentive, and gave us great cuts. She even talked to us about specifics of our hair while she cut. We decided to reschedule the last of our cuts due to time constraints, but look forward to coming back to her in the future. She even did a great job on my natural beach-wave style hair, which usually gives people issues. She talked to me about my curl patterns and sounded experienced.

Fiancée and I scheduled appointments a month ahead of time from two states away to get hair done for Fiancée and beard trim/straight shave for me before a family wedding. Ashley texted 45 minutes before to tell us she would be late and couldn't give us an exact time for how late she would be so we had to cancel and now most likely going to have to just settle for combing out hair in the car and a quick shave at the rest area while finishing drive to the wedding. Completely unprofessional and left it to where there was no way to remedy the situation since its last minute and no one else was at the shop at opening.

Good atmosphere and friendly staff but cut my dad's hair shorter than he wanted. The cut was also uneven and the sylist left loose hair all over my father's hairline.

I really enjoyed my haircut with Doris! She was fun to chat with and gave ne a GREAT cut. She really listened to what I asked for and even offered to style my thick head of hair.. That never happens! I didn't feel rushed and my hair looked great that day and it's still looking gorgeous after spending two days in airports!

I used to only go to BJs hair shop for my haircuts until recently. I even own one of their shirts. It seems like every time I would call them to make an appointment in the last 6th months they would have an issue with my appointment. They would always look for my name in their record and never be able to find mine even though I’ve been going there the last 6 years. Most recently I showed up to an appointment 10 mins early. I was treated well and asked to have a seat. 30 mins later one of the hair dressers finally asked my name and said it would be another 30 mins. I decided I’d had enough and just left. I always liked the haircuts from BJs hair shop, but unfortunately I won’t be returning as it’s been a repeat occurrence.

The haircut itself is great and the experience was very nice last time I went. This is the place I go to every chance I can when I need a haircut. They have free beverages, games and a bit of interesting material to read while you wait. Overall, it's a great environment.

10/10 from the experience to every single person in the store being happy and friendly, both customers and employees. I don't think I've ever been so happy with a haircut in my life, had work done by Natalie after not getting a haircut for a year so there was a lot to change. She was able to take exactly what I asked for and really spruce it up in areas I hadn't before. I just couldn't be happier. Thank you guys very much.

Don't get me wrong the ambiance was phenomenal. The place had a great vibe to it. I'd personally never experienced getting to have a drink whilst getting my hair cut before. The only reason I can't give more stars is because I went in for the lightest of trims in preparation some family photos I had coming up very soon, and they buzzed around a quarter of my moustache off and completely reshaped my beard which I did not ask for. Additionally, at the end of the cut when she was showing me in the mirror, she stated I "no longer looked homeless" which I did not appreciate and felt was somewhat unprofessional.

Doris is fabulous. She knows what she's doing, she's very friendly and approachable with positive energy and so much fun to chat with. I love her attitude so much, it makes all my anxiety go away. She gets booked up pretty quickly, which makes it hard to book last minute when my work schedule is all over the place. The other staff also do a good job as well, but again, I highly recommend Doris. She is the owner and she knows how to give a stellar haircut at an affordable price w shampoo/conditioner included. I currently reside in San Francisco & I still prefer getting my haircut by Doris in Reno.
