A Perfect Girls’ Getaway – Southern Hospitality at Its Best! I recently had the pleasure of spending a girls’ weekend retreat at Boar’s Head Resort, and it was nothing short of spectacular! Nestled just outside of downtown Charlottesville, the resort offers the best of both worlds—close to everything yet set apart just enough to provide a peaceful, serene escape. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the thoughtful touches that made our stay special. Our room was immaculate, spacious, and beautifully designed, making us feel like we were staying in a charming, well-appointed manor rather than a typical hotel. The attention to detail was evident everywhere—from the luxurious bedding that made for an incredibly comfortable sleep to the modern amenities like a Nespresso machine and an iPad for booking spa appointments and ordering room service (which, by the way, was extraordinary—delicious food and a seamless ordering process!). A special thank you to the management and staff for their warm hospitality—they even left a personalized note and thoughtful goodies in our room to help us celebrate a milestone birthday. That extra touch made our stay even more memorable. Dining at The Mill Room was another highlight. The cozy ambiance, complete with a crackling fireplace, set the perfect scene for an intimate and relaxing dinner. The artisan cocktails were expertly crafted, and the bar service was top-notch. This weekend was the perfect way to catch up with childhood friends, celebrate a special occasion, and soak in true Southern hospitality. If you’re looking for an elegant yet welcoming retreat, Boar’s Head Resort is the place to be. Can’t wait to return!

Our past stays have been great. This time everything had changed. The staff at breakfast would have been better suited working at a Burger King or McDonald’s. They had no customer service skills and appeared they really didn’t care. Breakfast was served cold, the waitress couldn’t be found for coffee or utinsils. They supposedly cooked a second breakfast, but everything was the same with the exception the potatoes were hot..We had massages, which we have had great massages here in he past, but not this time. I had cold oil rubbed on me, no massage. When I thought I would at least go steam since the massage was a loss, I realize the steam room isn’t working. All in all a terrible experience.

Really enjoyed the weekend at Boars Head. The rooms in the main lodge are much nicer and convenient to the amenities (bar, restaurant, coffee, valet) Strongly suggest getting a room there. Amazing breakfast and restaurant.

Great getaway. Exceeded all of our expectations

This is iconic, but fell short of my expectations, especially considering the price. I booked two nights NYE & NYD recently, along with dinner reservations at the Mill Room. Three days later I was advised dinner was prix fixe only, $149/person. I canceled the dinner reservations and one night at the Inn. The Ednam building was pretty noisy. I could hear footsteps upstairs all night. It was nice they had filtered water stations, but the station on the second floor had a red light warning. We did not know that there was an additional charge for the Winter Walk of light and fireworks so we opted not to enjoy that. The grounds are fantastic, very well landscaped and beautiful. We had a nice little patio with wrought iron furniture outside of our room. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom very nice. No sitting area in the room for the room service breakfast we ordered the next day. The pancakes were not very good and the smoked sausage that came with my eggs was not either. And very expensive, almost $100 for two people! We booked through a third party and there was no way to notify the end of our dog. When we got there we were told they didn't have any pet friendly rooms left but they would accommodate us anyway. That was thoughtful and considerate. If you are well heeled and money is no object, you'll probably love the place.

We came for a couples weekend getaway. We stayed in the Lakeside 700 building in a king room that included a balcony that faced the lake. The room was nicely furnished, leaving a stately feel. The bed was comfortable with a plush comforter. The coffee selection was from Nespresso and was easy to use. ||||The room had multiple quality issues including dirty walls in the bathroom, holes in the ceiling around the light fixtures, no insulation at the door to the balcony. The door was especially unacceptable. The space between the door and the floor was bigger than the size of a nickel, allowing a terribly cold draft into the room and plentiful space for insects to enter. The heating system did warm the room properly as it is programmed using an occupancy sensor that detects movement. So it dropped the temperature significantly while we were sleeping. (Made worse by the drafty door!)||||There was no sound barrier within the rooms. It was especially loud when children were running in the hallways. The doors slammed shut every time they were closed, and you can hear this loud slamming even from many rooms down the hall. You can also hear the conversations of your neighbors on both sides. ||||The balcony was a nice touch. However, the view of the lake from our room was obstructed by a very large tree. If this had been a summer stay, the view would have been entirely blocked by the tree leaves. The seating outside was typical metal outdoor furniture, but was heavy to move if you wanted a seat in a different spot on the deck. ||||We chose this property hoping to spend our entire time here, without having to venture into town if we didn't want to. I was disappointed that there wasn't a more affordable breakfast/lunch/coffee option on property. The main dining room is pricey and would make for a lovely date night meal, but for a lighter option, the property lacked choices. But we found Charlottesville to be a delightful town to explore with plentiful options for a foodie. ||||Overall, for the price of this resort (over $400 for 1 night), I expected better quality and refinement.

Did not stay at the hotel but attended the Winter Wonderland Light Show. It was great especially the drone show
Jan 06, 2025
Here for the drone show and wind above 5mph the show is canceled with no refunds and only a 1time reschedule and that show is canceled with no refund. Not worth the $160 fee for 5 tickets. Do not recommend

I went for the light show yesterday for new years and I have to say it was ok. The lights were beautiful and the firework were spectacular. But food was over priced and one of the food stops had stink bugs in the spot they were wowing up the food. 8 for hit chocolate is not normal and I think 3 dollars or less is a better price.

My husband and I were planning to stay a night after attending the winter light show. We checked in and put our bags into our room and went to the light show. When we returned and prepared for bed we realized that there were several hairs on the bed and the comforter was stained in multiple places. On top of that, the shower was so clogged that water was building up over my feet. We decided to not to stay the night and checked out early and made the front desk staff aware of why. They showed little to no concern. Safe to say light show was nice but will not be returning.

Outstanding facility & staff. Everyone was great. Very impressed with Mark & Kathy @ the front desk. Great room service was also provided especially when the toilet broke. Two wonderful & friendly technicians arrived within minutes. Service at the bar was exceptional. Breakfast was delicious.

Really nice accommodations. Friendly staff with good service. Went for the Winter Wander event and drone show. Very crowded but pleasant. Too many people for the food offerings but otherwise beautiful lights and outstanding drone show. Highly recommended.

SO disappointed! Took our whole family for the drone show and planned our day around it and they canceled it. COMPLETE disappointment.

TLDR: nice place, not well run, not worth the $ bc the experience doesn't match what you spend. Disappointing and won't be coming back. Very nice building and area, sub par communication internally. Came midweek for short holiday and booked sip n stay package and booked celebration package for winter wonderland. Upon check-in they let us know they forgot to put our welcome bottle in the room. It showed up while we were at the winter wonderland and was warm by the time we got back into room. Very busy due to winter wonder. We went baller and got a fire pit and s'mores. Our fire pit time was incorrect and staff told another group to "just take it" because it was empty. Then when we got to sit, since they never updated the signz we had people coming up to us and saying we were past our reservation so it was open for everyone. We said to anyone that came by go ahead and sit awhile we'll share, but when your having date night and paid to reserve for privacy, this wasn't really ideal. Dinner was good but didn't get package wine tasting due to staff very busy and confused when we asked. Breakfast staff asked for a letter, we never got one. Charged to room to figure out later. Visited front desk to ask questions for clarification and more finger pij ring and let me call. We're pretty much over it. Side note: renting fire pit with s'mores not worth it. They literally give you one smore each with the package and it's $12 for a box of 2.

The Boars Head Resort is always a welcoming experience. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The food is always above and beyond expectations. The overall experience is always something that reminds me of how important it is to take a break from everyday life and enjoy the relaxation of a top tier resort.

The winter event was spectacular! A must to remind you of wholesome family time around the fire pit, surrounded by Holiday music and lights. Highly recommend! Great job Boar's head!

They are so nice and they do a lot of stuff for you. It’s also a really good and reasonable price to stay in.

Very nice place and Mill Room is excellent restaurant (but a bit expensive). Golf and Tennis facilities are first rate -- although we did not do either on this trip. The hiking trails are also a nice touch that we used quite a bit. The Christmas light show was worth the time and expense.

We bought tickets for the Winter Wander and bought the protection plan. The night of the event was a soupy mess, and I called explaining we had two elderly people in our group and asked if I could simply transfer our tickets to another night where it was not raining and nasty our. They were very cold and told me no it was too late to change. I wasn't even asking for a refund, just to change the night. Its just disappointing to have spent so much money supporting a local business and. they can't even work with me to change the night due to crummy weather. Customer service was just very poor.

We did “Breakfast with Santa” and had a carriage ride around the resort. It was wonderful. The food was great, grounds are beautiful, very professional, and clean.

We had a wonderful 2-night stay at Boar’s Head, including a delicious dinner and 2 breakfasts at the Mill Room. Ingredients were high quality, very fresh and preparations were expertly prepared. We found the staff to be friendly, professional and helpful. Our beautiful comfortable room had a view of the lake and the Winter Wander lights. The entire stay was a treat and wonderfully relaxing.

We went for our anniversary and enjoyed our stay very much! Staff was very friendly. It was Christmas time and our room had a balcony overlooking the lights around the lake. They played Christmas music too. Very enjoyable to sit out there. We also ate in the restaurant. Very good, especially the breakfast. Will go back again

We went for the Winter Wander light display. The attention to detail was top notch. The light displays were over the top and beautiful. From the minute you enter and experience the bar service with deliciously crafted hot winter beverages like spiked Cider, Irish Coffee, and Hot Chocolate Bar, to professional photos with Santa and fire pit area, you will experience Christmas magic! There was a show with beautiful dancers featuring lights, well maintained paths along the displays, and delicious food and beverage choices along the walk. You can take as many laps and stay as long as you like. It was unforgettable and my family loved it.

Went for the holiday lights tour. The light displays were gorgeous and the walk through the landscape was lovely. We loved everything from the lights to the drinks to the illuminated dancers.

Went to room upstairs neighbors were so loud walking around. Our dog was nervous so we put him in the truck to walk around the festive of lights. Came back to sick dog with diarrhea. We could not go back into room and make a mess so I asked for a refund for the night. I was told no. 417 for nothing
