Our long-awaited sisters' weekend at Canyon Ranch in Lenox was spectacular. Set in the scenic, peaceful Berkshires, the wellness offerings are top-tier, and the spa, fitness classes, outdoor heated pool, and trail walk were highlights. The lunch-and-learn and meals were healthy, and we left inspired to try some recipes. The property itself is stunning, especially with the snow flurries yesterday. I enjoyed learning about the Bellefontaine mansion's history while sitting by the fire in the library. Thank you to the staff. It was exactly what we needed to recharge, and we left feeling refreshed and closer than ever. Highly recommend.

This review is for corporate/booking communications only. I did not stay here but called to inquire re: pool / hot tub status for day pass access, based on a recent review that several amenities are under construction. The main phone line goes to corporate headquarters in Tucson, who were only able to state that indoor pool construction is still going on as of Jan 18, with no expected end date. I was transferred to an on site phone number but placed on hold with no option for call back. I called the "on site wellness coordinator" number on the website and they are only available M-F 9-5. There is no option to reach out via email for general inquiries. In addition, it seems somewhat shady that they do not disclose the change in amenities access or offer a discount upfront. Disappointing communication and customer service for a high end resort/spa. I guess they don't want my business...!

Buyer Beware! Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Canyon Ranch. Our stay was nice, but I was blindsided by excessive extra charges. A friend warned me to beware of activities (i.e., arial yoga) that cost extra. I was still shocked by my credit card statement. When I called and asked to speak with a manager, the billing professional told me no manager was available. I received no written confirmation after my booking listing my nightly rate plus the exceptional additional taxes and fees. The $400 services credit is taxed $42.22 - so it is really $357. You will pay: Daily Programming Fee (mine was $19.00) + Programming Tax (mine was $2.22) + room RAF (mine was $28 daily) + Occupancy Tax (mine was $42.71) + Food RAF (mine was $28) + Food RAF Tax (mine was $9.80). So a weeknight package rate of $800 quickly goes over $1,000. There still appears to be a duplicate $110 charge on my statement. There are other wellness resorts you can go to where you will not be blindsided by your bill and you will know ALL rates, taxes, fees going in. Even Airbnb does a better job. Good luck out there!

Canyon Ranch was a wonderful escape, and an enchanting stay in the Berkshires winter landscape. The hospitality was unparalleled and each person embodied such a spirit of care towards me my entire stay. The soups at the restaurant were exquisite, and the hot cider served around the estate was enchanting. All the food was delicious and I was extremely well fed on their vegan options, which were plentiful.

We stayed over Thanksgiving this year. The experience was underwhelming. No matter how much you pay, no one goes above and beyond anymore. We arrived to a not particularly friendly bellhop. It took the front desk ~20 minutes to re-configure our rooms to the set up we booked online. The rooms are extremely outdated. I would compare the quality to that of a Holiday Inn Express. They were small and dark. The shower in our room was unusable as the shower curtain would get sucked into the shower and stick to your body. The biggest let-down of the entire stay was the construction which made most amenities unusable. The indoor pool was closed. The steam room in the men’s locker room was closed. If you wanted to use the sauna or inhalation room, you got to listen to the construction jackhammer in the background. Most importantly, the hot tub, cold plunge and lounge area of the men’s locker room was closed. As a concession for the men’s amenities being closed, the amenities in the women’s locker room were co-ed…from 7am-9am and 7pm-9pm – four strange hours of the day that no one would use. Construction and renovations are inevitable, but this feels like an unacceptable solution. Overall, the quality of our stay relative to the amount of money we paid was not reasonable. I will not be back.

I booked a weekend at this hotel to celebrate my birthday with some R&R and was shocked by how different the experience was compared to my expectations, especially considering the $2,000 per night rate. I’m happy to spend money on great experiences, but this wasn’t it. Rooms: Pictures attached to show how outdated and unpleasant the rooms are. When I asked if there were any other available rooms, I was told they all looked the same. The staff mentioned that the hotel’s focus wasn’t on room comfort but rather on the outdoor experience. An interesting way to justify poor room quality. Entertainment: None. During my stay in September, there was no evening entertainment, so after dinner, your only option is to return to your (uninspiring) room. We asked if we could use one of the fire pits but were told it wasn’t possible. The nights felt depressing, and I almost left after the first night. The saving grace was meeting some nice people and finding peace in the property's surroundings and the nearby town of Lenox. Activities: I didn’t visit CR to work out, so I can’t comment on the classes. I did go on one hike, which I had been excited for, but it fell short of expectations. The supposed strenuous "level 4" hike was neither challenging nor long enough, coming in an hour shorter than advertised. Most of the activities I was interested in required an additional fee, so I signed up for a few. However, the costs felt unjustified. i.e., I paid $150 for paddleboarding, which involved a short 5-min drive. While serene, it was essentially just me with the two women leading the adventure - who mentioned that they would have come whether or not anyone had signed up, which made me question the pricing logic. Similarly, the on-site ropes course, while challenging, wasn’t worth the $200 price tag. Spa: Perhaps the biggest disappointment despite being the main draw for CR. The facilities were underwhelming. The men’s spa area was under construction, so the spa was co-ed for several hours, which wasn’t ideal. I had a massage booked for Friday evening, and while the massage therapist was kind, he was very clearly, very new. He even pointed out his own missteps during the session. I asked how long he had been doing massage, and he said three months. Three months! I couldn’t believe I was paying luxury spa prices for someone with only three months of experience. The entire 80 minutes was frustrating, and I felt duped. When I mentioned this to the hotel staff while canceling my other spa services, they did refund me, which I appreciated. But that’s 80 minutes I’ll never get back. On the positive side, I had two metaphysical sessions that were nice and informative. Food: Okay. I liked that you could get half portions of as many dishes as you wanted, but I learned this from other guests, not from the hotel staff. Lunch was better than dinner, mostly because the lighting at night was terrible—bright fluorescent lights with no ambient or uplighting. They have a lovely outdoor terrace, and it’s a mystery why they don’t use it for dining - a missed opportunity. I'd say favorite part of the food experience was the coffee from the café. Staff: Mixed. The front desk staff were indifferent and lacked enthusiasm, while the spa front desk women were sweet and funny. The activity leaders were knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. However, one man working valet made me uncomfortable with overly personal questions and too many compliments. As a solo female traveler, this crossed a line. I was so uneasy that I reported my concern to the front desk just to have it on record, in case anything happened. Property: The grounds were beautiful and well-maintained. I genuinely enjoyed walking around and taking in the scenery. In conclusion, nearly everyone I met at the property expressed disappointment, and we were all confused by the lack of honest reviews reflecting the reality of the hotel. I loved Lenox and will definitely return to the area, but I won’t be staying at Canyon Ranch again, nor would I recommend it to family or friends.

Great sports facilities and - for me with gluten and dairy allergies - was good not to have to worry about being cared for (an unusual experience). The property is dated and this is reflected in the rooms, decor, noisy plumbing etc. Breakfasts and the cafe served good food, though dinner was hit and miss (e.g. over-steamed vegetables). Unfortunately, the indoor pool and men's spa area were closed which was not advised on booking; otherwise, we would have chosen somewhere else. The reservation experience was also not great at times with emails that did not make sense and/or were contradictory.

I recently stayed at Canyon Ranch for its mental health & wellness week. I DID NOT have same experience as when I stayed at the Arizona location years ago. The classes were rushed and you hade to use a bar code on the screen to download the info to my email. So no paper to write notes, and no time to ask questions. The only mental health offered was a 50 min appointment with a therapist. She gave me a couple of leads on EMDR & that’s it. No speakers like a psychologist or psychiatrist. I left my experience disappointed!! The Spa is a big art of why I visit. The services were fine but the cushion on the chairs and loungers were soiled & need cleaning or replacement. More to write at another time TCD

I’ve been to Canyon Ranch many times and this time was just as wonderful. Great massage and facial, food was good, great classes and programs. Grounds gorgeous as always. Great outing to Tanglewood. It’s a very special place. Highly recommend!

I just stayed over night, but it was an incredible experience. You drive up to the booth and give your name then drive to the hotel entrance where they greet you by name and bring in all your luggage right to your room. The food was wonderful and just the whole vibe is to relax. I would definitely love to come back. The staff are very friendly and attentive

3 of us spent a weekend at CR in May to celebrate a birthday. The spa is underwhelming and in need of changes. |The positives: |The staff checking in and around the resort is terrific. The exercise classes, very good. The grounds are very pretty and a somewhat short/easy walk in to Lenox.|The negatives:|The rooms are tired and in need of a renovation, esp the bathrooms. They have old fixtures, bathrub/showers with disgusting shower curtains, windows/screens are so old that it is a challenge to open or close them.|The food is terrible. The salad bar is inexcusable. There were the exact same wilted cherry tomatoes, slimy cucumbers and raw broccoli at every lunch – completely unappealing. The lettuce was not fresh and the presentation was much like a school cafeteria. The food from the kitchen was pretty bad. Some of the creations and attempts at gluten free or vegan were inedible. I had been at the Miraval in Arizona in March, and the difference in the quality of the food/choices and presentation was staggering.(Miraval food was great, endless choices for salads, cheeses, etc- you certainly felt pampered there.) |On the first morning of our stay, there was a fire alarm at 6:15am. The entire bldg had to file out of our beds, out of the bldg. and stand outside. There was no staff telling us what was happening, no direction from anyone, confusion. After about 20 min someone from inside did poke their head out and sent us back to our rooms. There was no apology, no information, no acknowledging or referring to it in any way. |On the last day, the dining room was flooded and closed. We had to have lunch and breakfast the next day in an auxiliary dining area. No apologies for the inconvenience. And how did it get flooded?? The facility is old and is riding on a decades old reputation. |I would check out Miraval in Arizona. I have not been to the one in Lenox, but someone there told me that is was way nicer.

I completely agree with Robin H’s review below. The facility is tired and poorly maintained — peeling paint, debris on the carpets, big stains on the upholstery. The food is mediocre at best and often inedible. The classes are ok, but there are not enough interesting ones and too many require an additional fee. This is a low rent spa for a high end price. You can do better and I will next time.

Gorgeous setting, food choices and quality, and a superlative and hard working staff. Some of the special midweek packages offered are worth considering. Always check the website before booking so you won’t miss out on the best values for your stay. You can even bring your small dog! I met an interesting array of dynamic guests from all over the world and was impressed that the staff was diverse and multi-racial. The programming is very high quality. There are some seminars and workshops offered at an additional fee, which I found frustrating considering this is generally an all- inclusive resort. I only did a couple of fitness classes because all the other activities (meals massages and lectures) filled my time. The indoor pool is bliss and the women’s spa (recently renovated) is spectacularly magical. Do try the cold plunge after your steam, saunas or whirlpool. It always invigorated me. I went once in late Spring and twice in early Summer. The grounds make you feel like Royalty out for a stroll in your Enchanted Kingdom or Queendom!

I had a one-off bad experience, and the whole staff was beyond excellent about it. They tried their best to make me feel comfortable and refunded part of my stay when I left.

If you want to pay upwards of $2,000 a night for a room that belongs to a motel stay here. Even the chairs in the dining room are old and falling apart…

Just came back from an amazing 3 days at Canyon Ranch Lenox. I don't understand any negative reviews. The rooms are fresh and updated, the facilities as well. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We loved our treatments (facial and deep tissue massage). Enjoyed the morning stretch and yoga classes. Really loved the Mocktail making class. Almost everything we wanted to do was included in the base fee. It was so nice not to feel nickel and dimed like some wellness resort. We thought the food was really good with lots of options. And the grounds are just gorgeous.

We had a girls getaway to canyon Ranch and early June. Our first time there for all of us and it won't be our last... Everything about this place is spectacular. The staff is extraordinary, The Berkshire setting is beautiful and restorative. The food is superb. I was so blessed out that I left an entire bag of floating there a month later I discovered it was missing. I called canyon Ranch and their security department had it and is going to FedEx it to my home. This is the way you do outstanding customer service. If I could get this place 10 Stars I would. The rest of American businesses could take a real lesson how to run a business that really delivers for customers!

May 05, 2024

0 stars. For years, Canyon Ranch had pocketed the tips that customers were told not to pay to staff because Canyon Ranch would pass it along to workers. Then they were sued, and forced to compensate (a pittance at that point, though). I would never support a place this corrupt and immoral.

Canyon Ranch had been on my bucket list for years. I’ve never heard anything but rave reviews from friends and family and so was excited to see for myself. CR completely exceeded my expectations, food was delicious, accommodations were perfect (and comfortable), and it truly is a transformative retreat. You will walk away refreshed, with a new perspective, and full of new information about yourself.||There are tons of activities throughout the day, I would highly recommend taking advantage of the things you may not normally have access to/or nervous to try. Just be sure to allow yourself time to just be. I look forward to my next CR visit. ||Staff is beyond friendly—and I can’t recommend the seminars & learning kitchen for lunch enough!

My wife and I had a great experience at CanyonRanch in Lenox this weekend. The entire staff was friendly and very helpful. The grounds and facilities were beautiful and so well maintained. The workout and spa sessions were excellent and we particularly loved the breakfasts!

I love visiting CR Lenox. The historic building and grounds are amazing. The activities, health, and medical services are top notch. The dining room and food are excellent. The only complaint I ever have is that the rooms are more corporate than spa, but it’s ok given how great everything else is.

Amazing

Feb 05, 2024

Amazing spa services and facilities. We went for a treat after moving and enjoyed a couples massage and mani/pedis. We would definitely go again, but it seems they don’t allow you to just book services or visit without either staying at the resort or booking a one day pass, only on Sundays or Thursdays. Exclusive, but definitely worth it. We’ll likely return for a proper vacation and classes at some point.
