Started off really well! My stylist and I bonded over shared hobbies and I started with explaining I didn’t know a whole lot about hair and such and that I would need to be kindof walked through, she was super understanding and made me feel really comfortable. As a college student, money isn’t fluid nor easy to come by, so when I saw on the website that there was a set price for each service, I was happy about the transparency and wanted to treat myself to a haircut and highlight, as I get my hair done roughly once a year. I explained that to her, and in telling her that I didn’t know a lot about how this worked, I thought there would be some transparency before additional treatments were added. This was a mistake because the stylist forgot to inform me that all the things she was adding would amount to a staggering $100 extra onto my appointment. I felt like I did a pretty good job explaining what I wanted and that I didn’t really know how these things worked, so when she said “we’re gonna do a toner cause I want it to be a little brighter” I thought that was included, again, wrong. The toner was nearly fifty dollars. I had such a good experience too and it’s so disappointing to walk out of the salon and cry in your car because you felt scammed and taken advantage of. A friend recommended this place too so I had high hopes, now I’m out nearly 400 dollars because of the extra charges and a tip.

Page did an extraordinary job cutting/styling my hair. I appreciate how she took the time to understand what I wanted & cut it exactly as asked. Very happy with the result & highly recommend her!!

I’ve been going to James for over a year and hands down BEST colorist! He always takes my vision and beautifully executes. Even with grow out it looks fabulous at every stage! From blonde to red, he’s done it all and I’ve been happy every time.

I’ve been getting my hair done at Carbon Salon for awhile now and have seen multiple stylist— each one is extremely talented and amazing! This last time, James did my hair, and I was so impressed that I had to share. James is incredibly talented and understood exactly what I wanted. I couldn’t be happier with the results! Highly recommend this salon and James!

Best salon in Portland !! Have been coming here for almost 8 years and I love the space. The owners are always changing the space to make it better. I remember when they only had the first part of the salon and expanded into the second space. All of the changes to keep growing and making the space better. The lighting is also super cool you can tell that they took a lot of time picking it out. It fits the space so well and looks really cool. I’m a simple cut and color root touch up. I sometimes do some balayage to change up my style. I have never been disappointed. I have been to quite a few stylists at the salon but I have also been to the lovely nail artist to maintain my toes and fingers. I could talk about these guys all day. But I highly recommend this place. Parking is amazing and free !! That’s a big plus !

I can’t recommend Carbon Salon enough! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with such warmth and professionalism. The entire team is super friendly, and the salon has such a welcoming, relaxed vibe. Frankie is an absolute gem! He always takes the time to ask what I’m aiming for in my cut and style, never assuming, which makes me feel truly heard. He delivered the perfect cut—better than I could have imagined. My hair feels healthier, and I’ve gotten so many compliments since my visit! The products they use are top-tier, and I genuinely felt pampered throughout the entire experience. If you’re looking for a salon that combines expertise with an amazing atmosphere, Carbon Salon and Frankie are the way to go. I’ll definitely be back!

I first met Frankie 10 years ago when I moved back to Portland and was looking for hair support due to my alopecia areata. From the very beginning, he has been a true lifesaver for both me and my hair. Over the past decade, I’ve trusted him with everything—from a simple haircut to halo extensions, full wigs, toppers, and sew in extensions. Whatever I’ve needed (or didn’t know I needed) Frankie has delivered with extension and wig knowledge and skill, immense creativity, care and kindness. Frankie, Robert and their incredible team are not just experts in their craft—they’re genuinely amazing humans. I have been going to carbon salon for about 9 months and my stylist James is wonderful. I am a blonde and being Mexican you need to know how to mix the colors so you don’t look like you have orange hair. James knows exactly what to do with my hair to keep me being a blonde the best part is that I just sit in his chair and he already knows what to do I just love this man 💜

I have been coming to Carbon Salon since they opened its doors. The owners Frankie and Robert always make me feel so special and my hair feels so fresh when I leave. I feel comfortable getting my hair done by multiple stylists at Carbon. My current go-to stylist is Aidan Lee who specializes in Asian Hair. When he’s busy, I see June Alvarez who also does an exceptional job. Every stylist that I have interacted with really listens to my needs and wants. Carbon is my favorite salon in P-town. ❤️

I have been coming to Carbon to get my hair done every 8 weeks for the past 3 years. I was not thrilled with my results after my first appointment, but Carbon was very accommodating and allowed me to come back and see a different stylist, Chris, who has been amazing since day one. I put a lot of effort, money and self-care into my hair, so trusting someone with my hair is a huge deal for me. I trust Chris 100% to give me exactly what I’m looking for and my hair has never looked better. Chris puts so much pride into his work, the salon is beautiful, they always have music playing, and Chris is great at keeping the conversation flowing. And a bonus; the head massage he gives you while your conditioner is setting is probably my favorite part of the service. I would, and have, recommended Chris at Carbon Salon to anyone looking for a hair stylist.

I’ve been going to Aiden at Carbon Salon for yearsssss. I’ve tried many salons in my decade in PDX and this is the only salon that I could trust for a trendy, chic “lived in” cut. His balayage gives my hair the depth it needs. I have thin fine hair and Aiden is able to transform it into lush beachy lived-in locks. It’s truly a miracle and can’t recommend Aiden enough!!! I even get stopped in airports and at work about who and where I get my hair styled. Without hesitation I send them to Aiden at Carbon!! The salon is in a nice neighborhood in NW and the staff is awesome. I always walk away happy (and a handful of Oribe products)!

I’ve been going to Carbon Salon for over two years and the service has always been amazing. I’m Asian and have been blonde since 2018, so maintaining my roots is a must. James is my go-to person for my hair. He does extensions as well, but I was recommended him because of his attention to maintain roots. I’ve been to many hair artists, but he is so skilled in attention to details and making sure my Asian hair has the right amount of processing. Probably the best I’ve had when it comes to precision work. I’ve recommended many of my friends here, and you definitely need to see James if you’re interested in going blonde as an Asian!
