I started growing out my hair after having it cut super short for about 3 years. It’s at an awkward length and I’m about to go on a trip and wanted my hair braided. I wasn’t sure if people would be able to work with my length (4inches in some place and about 2 inches in others cause I had a fade) and I was able to make a hair consultation for free then I booked with Jodi the braider. She did a great job, she didn’t braid tight and she was really nice and very responsive to my needs. She gave me some input and suggestions on the style I wanted as far as length and I’m glad she did. I love the hair. The only thing is this place is expensive even considering how expensive it is generally to get braids in. (The picture is my hair 2 days later)

Sometimes business owners forget that customer service is a major part of client retention. I truly disliked the level of customer service I received regarding products that I purchased from this salon. Maybe there was an assumption made based off of my appearance (relatively young) why there was no interest in resolving my issue but when I was spending my money everything was fine. Thankful this is a third party retailer and my issue was handled with grace by the parent company who did their due diligence on ensuring that I was a satisfied customer.

I'm just coming from my appointment with Petal: It was such a great experience!! Petal was very very patient and nice, she took all the time that it needed to fulfill my wishes and did such a great job on my natural curly hair. Salon is nice, clean and friendly. Petal absolutely slayed my pixie cut. She had me looking and feeling like a million bucks. BOOK HER you won’t regret it! Also I loved the vibes of the salon. Very clean and modern.

Place is clean, bring extra money because depending on the style they may add on $$. The stylist get loud and unprofessional but not as bad as some shops. Hairstyle came out ok but not worth the money.

This salon is so fresh and so clean. The energy is very cleansing and modest. Petal is respectful and generous. Her hands are blessed. My pixie cut maintained itself well and I could not stop getting compliments from strangers, friends, family, and colleagues.

Wow!! where do I even begin? I was in need of a change and decided to book with Petal at changing faces for a pixie cut. Best decision ever! Petal was so kind, made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process, gave me tea lol and explained after care steps for my hairstyle. Additionally, the salon itself is very clean and super chic. If you’re wondering whether or not to book, just do it! You’ll be happy you did

Derma is professional , and proficient with her work. The maintenance that has been put forth by her , to maintain the health and vitality of my hair has been exceptional. The environment in the shop has always been a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Not to mention the rates are reasonable.

I absolutely love this salon! I had an appointment with Derma to get my locs done. When I arrived I was greeted with a very warm welcome. My appointment started right on time, and the chairs and the salon were very comfortable. Derma is a true professional! She’s very personable and funny. When my hair was done, it looked the best it’s ever looked. It’s been a week, and my locs still look new! I would definitely recommend!

I started coming here to get my hair braided by Derma who is also an amazing loctician. After a few visits she recommended that I loc my hair. Best decision I've made when it came to my hair. Her care and attention to detail is amazing. It's refreshing having someone with that much knowledge about locs treating you. I've been a customer at this salon since 2021, seeing primarily Jodi. My experience with her has been consistently fantastic, getting mostly box braids and cornrows. Beyond her skill, Jodi's kindness adds a personal touch to the salon experience, making each visit enjoyable. I love coming into the salon and catching up w everyone. I can’t recommend this spot enough, especially if you're looking for impeccable braids and a friendly stylist like Jodi.

The very talented stylist Derma takes special care of me every time I enter changing faces salon. She’s very particular about her craft and the way she takes care of the locs she touches. The styles she create last longer than your average cosmetologist specializing in locs. I have personally had my locs last for over a month with no need of an immediate re-twist. She has great hospitality and makes her craft her number one priority. If anyone (male or female) that has locs and is thinking about trying out this salon ‘Derma’ is who you’re looking for, no doubt she’ll have you looking fresh every time

I have been here 3 times already I get my natural hair washed, deep conditioned, and styled. (I have done crochet faux locs, two strand twists, and jumbo box braids.) Jazmen, Lisa, and Jodi - the natural hair stylists at the salon are all lovely. They are gentle with your hair and open to conversation if you initiate it with them or cool to keep it quiet if you are. They have been able to squeeze me in last min and been flexible on pausing mid-session for me to attend to personal needs/errands. I’m really glad to have found a high quality black salon in Brooklyn. It is more expensive than going to an African hair braiding spot, but I think the quality and the experience is worth it.

My wife was very unhappy about the price for an wash & set with treatment. 159.00 dollars where they pay that at?? Plus you put some mousse that made my wife hair hard only to comb it out which was painful. You need to inform your customers on pricing. We will never come there again!!!!!

Unfortunately, I had to give the service 1 star. I’ve visited this salon in the past for knotless braids and a silk press and was very pleased with those services. I’ve also referred my friends to the shop since my prior experiences were so great. I assumed getting a simple two strand twist would be seamless but that was not the case. I booked an appointment online with Lisa at the price of $95 for two strand twists shoulder length as stated on the website. When I arrived, Lisa checked me in and got started on my hair right away. She washed and conditioned my hair as anticipated (I would later find out that the shampoo and conditioner are not apart of the style price resulting in an extra charge). Before she actually began styling my hair, Lisa asked me what size two strand twist I wanted which I told her would be medium size. I asked for medium because the twist would look really full and voluminous. I also asked for medium size twist because it would make detangling and twisting 4C hair much easier since it’ll be in smaller sections. The back of my hair started fine but as Lisa proceeded towards the middle of my head, I noticed her parts and the twist were getting larger and uneven. I’m also vision impaired so I couldn’t see exactly how the hair was coming out while in the chair but I definitely felt the difference. As the sections got bigger, detangling my 4C hair got more and more difficult. I winced a few times as she combed through my thick/coarse hair and I could tell Lisa started to work quicker and in larger sections instead of working in smaller and easier sections for medium twists as discussed. When the style was completed, Lisa gestured for me to sit under the dryer and that’s when I saw the finished style fully. I immediately was dissatisfied with the style because it was nothing like I asked for. The parts were uneven and sporadic. The two strand twists were thick, clunky, and all over the place. It was apparent the style was rushed. Before I even sat down, I mentioned to Lisa that this was not what I asked for. I could tell she was offended by my feedback and was searching for a rebuttal. The entire 10 minutes under the dryer I was trying to find the most non confrontational way to again reiterate my dissatisfaction with the style since I could tell my comment did not sit well the first time. When I sat back in the styling chair and again mentioned the style was not like I asked, Lisa flat out blamed me for the outcome. Lisa told me that I was “tender headed” and because I looked uncomfortable, she decided to work in larger sections to finish quicker. I could not believe what I had heard. Was I really being blamed for a style I did not ask for because of what my stylist perceived to be my discomfort? I totally admit I did squirm in my seat a few times but that was in reaction to the larger sections being detangled. If Lisa had worked in smaller sections for the medium size twists like we originally discussed, detangling would have been less of a struggle for her and a lot less painful for me but instead of understanding my feedback, it was dismissed. I felt so embarrassed and disregarded. Lisa “discounted” the rate which she stated would’ve been $160 (style plus shampoo/conditioner). Even the discount felt disingenuous. I felt as though Lisa thought she was doing me a favor by “discounting” the rate but I believe it was more for her than me. She never asked me what can we do to make it right. I didn’t want a discount, I wanted the style I asked for. In all honestly, the way the twists came out, it wasn’t worth anywhere near what I ended up paying. I walked out of that salon feeling, dismissed, unheard, and completely unpretty. I understand that not every style will come out perfect but I had hoped that clients and stylist would be able to have a constructive discussion if that’s the case instead of being accused into believing the client is the problem. Not sure if I’ll return since I now know that a space of constructive criticism and solutions does not exist in Changing Faces.

i think it was just my stylist who was bad but she had an attitude and charged me extra for detangling and i didn't even get what i wanted. she also was aware that i was a child but proceeded to be kind of a jerk. all in all dont go to petal and this place is overpriced and mean to damaged hair. i rlly shld not have come back after my forst talk with her

Jodi is excellent. My hairdresser moved to another state and I was devastated. Not everyone takes the time to be sure that the style fits your face. Jodi spent a great deal of time ensuring I was happy and.confortable with my hair. If you need a great stylist.....go here and ask for Jodi. My braids still look amazing after two months!
