If you have textured hair please protect your mental health and go elsewhere. I have type 4a-4b and I went here after another place did a horrible job and when I tell yall this lady played in my head for 3 hours and I paid over $200 to quite literally look the same, I wanted to cry. We had an initial consultation and I told her my hair only responds to gel but for whatever reason she was adamant on using their lotions because she was convinced my hair was dry. 3 hours later we get to the styling part and my hair is a poofy mess and she goes oh yeah I guess I should have used gel…. Huh you don’t say?? The haircut itself was also horrible. I came in asking for my hair to be debulked and she didn’t have thinning sheers so instead she grabbed a few strands of hair and would randomly just snip them as a “debulking process”. I wish I took pictures but I was literally fuming at that point. Now I need to book another haircut somewhere to get an ACTUAL service done. Just save your money and go else where.

So glad I found my curly hair salon in NYC! The salon was clean, chill, and large. Marianna did a fantastic job with my hair and took the time to give lots of tips on how I could style it better. She did the PERFECT hair cut - did away with the split ends, but still kept the length. I felt very well taken care of, and while a bit more pricey, I think it was well worth it given the entire experience. Will definitely be keeping Christo as my go-to salon!

I had an amazing experience at Christo Fifth Avenue! As someone with type 4 natural hair, I’m usually very hesitant about going to professional salons because I’m so protective of my hair. But I decided to trust Christo Fifth Avenue for a color and blowout, and I’m so glad I did. Igor, my stylist, was incredible— efficient, and so knowledgeable about how to care for my hair type. He made me feel completely at ease, and the process was smooth from start to finish. No hair loss, no pulling, and absolutely no rough handling. On top of that, Igor was so friendly, and we had great conversation throughout the appointment. I’m in love with the color (reddish auburn) and can you believe no bleach was used!! If you have type 4 hair and don’t know where to go come here and ask for Igor!! I couldn’t be happier with the results! * a before and after of my hair is included

Igor was absolutely amazing! From the initial consultation to the final touches, he made me feel so taken care of. This is probably the best curly haircut I’ve gotten. My curls look and feel bouncy, and my bangs and banging! Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for a good curly haircut!

I am so happy I found Igor at Christo - a true curly/wavy hair expert AND such a nice person. In my first visit he spent so much time 'training' me on how I should dry, style my hair, it was a gift! Who spends so much time on one client? The best part is - my 3rd visit to him I had decided to start blow drying instead of wearing it curly and he gave me a cut that could be worn both ways! He is soo amazing, thank you Igor, you're the best!

I am very hesitant when going to new hair salons but I when googling different places I found Christo 5th Ave and after seeing all the glowing reviews constantly mentioning Igor, I decided to impulsively book my appointment. I am so happy I did. I don’t have a Before photo of my hair but the after speaks for itself. He cut my layers super naturally and still kept my hair long, which other stylists I have been to in the past have always struggled to do. He was also super helpful and patient and made sure to ask me what issues I had and wanted to fix with my hair. I love how he made my hair just look better and feel healthier. All my friends have just been constantly complimenting my hair without realizing I even got a haircut. Before Igor cut my hair, I was feeling really frustrated with how my hair would look and I definitely wasn’t getting as many compliments as I am now. So grateful to him and will definitely be back!

Igor is an absolute gem! He completely revived my curly hair and taught me how to care for it with such patience and clarity. His kindness made the whole experience so enjoyable, and I left his chair feeling confident and truly in love with my natural curls again. I can’t recommend Igor enough. he’s a true expert and just an all-around wonderful person!

One of the best days of my life, speaking haircuts & stylist days, was the day I met Igor Santos. From the moment I walk into the salon, I'm always warmly greeted by Igor. His personality allows us to to be so comfortable with each other....and then all his attention is on me, which is a big plus when someone is cutting my hair. It's all about me...until me & my curls are bouncing out of the salon. I never knew my hair could look SO great. Igor's talent & personality are worth their weight in gold. I'm very lucky he's my stylist. God bless my Igor. Xox

EDIT: My first review below was very positive but I have to add that we went back a year later and despite my best efforts my daughter’s hair had gotten knotty again. (Not as bad as the photos but definitely in need of untangling.) THEY REFUSED TO SEE HER!!!! We gave an enormous tip the first time, 100%, and told them that her hair would need detangling when we made the appointment this time, and they just said no. It was awful she was so sad and we felt bad. Just a terrible experience. Would never go back. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Igor was amazing! Our 5 year old has super curly hair that was completely tangled, knotted, and dreaded up from a lack of combing and and just a general lack of proper curly haircare. He taught us what to do while spending over an hour detangling, then washing and cutting, and washing again. Detangling hair like that wasn’t painless but he expertly managed the process working with my daughter to make sure she was as comfortable as she could be durning it all. He’s our go-to from now on.

Me hice corte y highlights con Igor y fue espectacular su servicio . Habla perfecto español y me explico súper bien cómo colocarme los productos de cuidado en mi casa . The first time I came here I wanted to trim my ends thinking they were dead, while at the same time keeping as much length as possible since I'm growing my hair out. Igor was my stylist and was very honest and explained that if I trimmed my hair at that length, it would look a lot shorter than it actually is due to my hair type. Instead he recommended a deep condition that brought my ends back to life. I came back the next year after my hair grew more and received an excellent trim. He was able to give my hair great shape without cutting a lot off. He's also very friendly and gives a lot of tips for taking care of your hair. I respect Igor because other stylists would have cut my hair that first time for the extra money, knowing it wasn't the best route for me. All around great experience and my new go to for getting trims.

fantastic experience here! Everyone very friendly, from front desk to hair washing staff. My styling expert, Mariana, is extremely talented and professional and also has unending patience!! She really cares to make sure you leave happy. Throughout the consultation and styling, she went above and beyond to make sure I will leave with a style I like and with the knowledge to recreate that style myself at home. She even helped me with ordering curly hair extensions!!! Thank you Mariana!

I met Igor for the first time and found him to be so personable and VERY talented! He greets you as soon as you come in and makes you feel you’re his only client. I had a deep hydration treatment and a haircut. He is amazing! He made sure I knew all the steps to take so I can continue when I get home. He is not like any hairdresser I’ve ever had. He is really special! Can’t wait to come back!

Igor is a master at cutting and guiding me on the care of my curly hair- I’ve tried many curly salons no one comes close to Igor. I make it a point when I visit the city to see Igor the cut is so technically perfect it grows out beautifully.

It saddened me to know of Christo’s passing during my recent visit. This salon has been my goto since the start of my big curly hair chop back in 2014. Fast forward to 2024, I can tell that Christo invested in growing his team’s skill and continuing to provide great service. I’ve cut my hair with Mariana since Christo’s passing and she was very knowledgeable on curl texture, products, and styling. Most importantly she made me feel heard when discussing my hair and comfortable. She also helped me come up with a solid plan for growing out my curls. Thank you!

My sister has been going to Igor Santos for several years and I always asked her why she had to travel three hours just to get her hair done. I went with her on Saturday and now I completely understand! I had a deep conditioning treatment with gray coverage for my roots and my hair has never looked so good! I would recommend Igor Santos to anyone who wants their curly hair to look amazing!

I have been going to this salon for the past 2 years and I always take my hair seriously and trust very few people with working with my hair with it being 3c . And I always leave with loving my hair . I always choose Igor and it has never disappointed and instead exceed my expectations. Igor is very careful with my hair , talks me through the process and keeps our chats interesting. He really takes his time with my hair because he knows it’s a lot and needs more attention when coming to doing it right. The process was long but worth it and I love my hair . He understood what I wanted and executed it well and with my hair looking still moisturized. Will always go back to Igor!

Unfortunately won’t be returning. I told the stylist I was hesitant about layers because my ends are very fine and it doesn’t grow out well. I didn’t want the bottom layer to be see-through because it looks ratty. Instead of respecting my request I feel like he did whatever he wanted. The bottom layer looked really thin and see-through which is what I said I didn’t want. when I told him I didn’t love it, instead of offering to adjust it, he got defensive saying “I can’t put hair where it is not”. I can’t justify spending this much money on a haircut to get this kind of treatment and attitude.

Igor!! I have no words to explain how beautiful your work is. I’ve always hated how frizzy and dry my hair is and have did keratin straightening to easily manage my hair. You made me believe my natural curls are gorgeous and I absolutely love it. I would NEVER trust anyone with my curly hair other than you Igor. No matter how far I go, I will travel back to get my hair cut & styled by Igor. He is just awesome. He cut my hair exactly as much as needed! He cut off all the straight hair from keratin treatment and just beautifully enhanced my curly hair by doing long layers. He is a good teacher! He taught me exactly how to recreate my curly hair at home along with all the techniques. I learnt a lot about my hair!! Thank you.

It has been over 2 years since I booked an appointment with Christo after 4 years of growing out my bleach-damaged hair, and his subtle but perfectly placed highlights are still apparent. He was attentive and insightful, he showed me how to style my hair to encourage the best curl pattern and I still do it the same way every wash day! I don't live in New York anymore but wouldn't dare go to any other salon for highlights (or even a trim, frankly). I could not recommend a better place to invest in your curls. 10/10.

Igor Santos was so amazing!! I love how knowledgeable, kind, sweet and funny he was. He trimmed/cut my hair exactly how I asked.
