I've been seeing Tara at Chroma Wallingford since I moved to Seattle 14 years ago. I really lucked out! She's done an amazing job of evolving my cut and color as styles and my own hair have evolved over time (hello grays!). I'm so happy with the results and to top it off she is a great person to spend a couple hours chatting with (or not chatting if you are so inclined). Today she even squeezed in a cut for my daughter during my appointment. Thanks Tara!

I’ve been seeing Tara for blond highlights for the past 6 years, and I can’t recommend her enough! Even after moving 45 minutes away from Seattle, I still make the drive because her work is exceptional. The highlights are always so well blended and natural, applied as close to the roots as possible, so there’s never that awkward grow-out look. If you’re looking for a talented hairstylist, look no further!

Anna is amazing! I was a bit worried about trusting someone with my long wavy/curly hair but Anna understood exactly what I wanted for my big chop. The shop is so cute and everyone is very hospitable! 10 outta 10 would recommend.

I booked a last minute haircut with Jenny. She is new to Seattle and still building her clientele, but has many years of experience and it showed! She helped identify the best pieces of each inspiration photo I showed her, guided me gently to the elements that would work best on me (zero pressure, but helpful!), then executed our plan flawlessly—I’m super happy with my cut! Highly recommend getting on Jenny’s books while she still has availability; I can’t imagine it’ll last long. Thank you!

I highly recommend Chroma in Wallingford— I’ve seen Cole for many years now and he’s got my (pretty difficult) hair down to a t. He cuts and colors my hair and can translate my babbling requests into cute looks. He’s also just a truly wonderful, intelligent human that I love catching up with.

I've been getting my highlights here by Cole for over a year and he always does an amazing job! I have pin straight hair, so you do have to be a good stylist to give me highlights that don't end up looking like an early 2000s Kelly Clarkson. Fortunately, Cole has the right skill, and they look very natural. I also love my haircuts here—when I got my first haircut with Cole, my fiancée said "you should only get your hair cut by whoever did it today," so there you go. I appreciate that Cole is attentive and always listens to what I want. Everyone at the salon seems really friendly and accommodating, so I'm sure people would have a good experience with any of the other stylists too :)

I was very disappointed by the cut I received but the biggest issue involved their people skills. I really wanted to have a good experience because the salon is in my neighborhood but I was very taken aback when I was treated like an incompetent old lady. I am in my 60s but I am still a practicing physician and I am extremely competent.

Horrible customer service. I finally got through to an actual person, Kylie, after three days of trying. Kylie did not take any responsibility only stating that she had been out. For the amount I pay for a haircut with Rachel, I do expect someone to return calls. I shouldn’t have to call and email three days in a row without a return call. I pay much more there than I would at Gene Juarez who has a large support staff. I also prefer to support local businesses. However, being subjected to an immature representative of the company who takes no accountability and states, “I don’t like how this is going” because she has no customer service skills is disappointing to say the least. I am the customer and I am the one who should be saying, “I don’t like how this is going.” She also asked for my phone number to check my account and quickly told me I was not.a client of theirs so I could not get a complimentary bang trim. I told her that my number changed quite some time ago but if she had checked the voice mail from Tuesday, she would know that. She also could have asked me if I had another number that the account might be under but instead she treated me as if I was trying to get something for free. She continued with more attempts to humiliate me. What a bully. My guess is she is very young and accustomed to having everything done FOR her. Update: the owner never returned my calls or responded to the email I sent and yet he took the time to post something publicly. That doesn’t show any concern for me personally. He also posted information in his response that was not in my review. Charging more than places with quite a bit of overhead indicates how much the owner is taking in. What a shame that it wasn’t worth it to you to do the right thing. Just an FYI that I am not the only one in my neighborhood who has had a bad experience. It will catch up to you eventually.

I hadn’t had my hair colored in a while, and recently decided to treat myself. I decided to opt for a balayage and a simple cut. I wanted to make sure it looked great, so I chose Tara as my stylist to ensure the best results. I couldn’t be happier! Tara’s expertise and attention to detail truly made the difference. My hair looks and feels amazing, and I’ve received countless compliments on the natural-looking balayage and the chic haircut. I’ll be honest that I didn’t follow Tara’s home-care advice, and I inadvertently washed out the toner. I called the salon a week later to see what they could do, and they re-did the toner complimentary. They offered tips on how to maintain the color, which was incredibly helpful. The customer service was outstanding, and I felt valued and appreciated throughout the entire process. Please see the attached photo. The color transitions beautifully from the roots to the ends, creating a seamless and natural look. I’m proud to show off my hair, whether it’s pulled back or let down. I can’t speak for the other stylists at this salon, but I would highly recommend going to Tara for any of your hair needs. I gave the salon a 5-star rating because they truly deserve it. Their professionalism, skill, and customer care are top-notch.

Been going here for over a year for my short haircuts, they're great! My stylist is Anna, she really knows her stuff and is very easy to talk to and work with. I've never had a bad experience, and I always feel welcome. I also love the online booking, really makes scheduling convenient. Highly recommend!

I moved to Wallingford a few months ago and was delighted to see an Aveda Chroma salon nearby. Cole is my stylist and he is absolutely amazing! He actually listens to me and asks questions to make sure he understands why I want or don't want something, so he can better explain what that all means in hair terms. Cole gave me a perfect balayage color and cut that was exactly what I wanted. And he is patiently working with me to get me through my "I thought I wanted bangs" phase before I met him. So I'm excited for my next appointment, where I know Cole is gonna make it all right again!!!

I have been going to Chroma salon for 3+ years seeing, Tara Angell (hairby_tara). I could not recommend her more, she’s extremely thorough and makes sure she fully understands what I want, every time. My hair always looks so good when I leave and more than half of my friends now go to her as well. I typically go for the natural beachy blonde look and it never looks over bleached and doesn’t feel damaged or broken after. Also gives amazing hair cuts! I recommend her to every one in the Seattle area and would highly recommend you see her too if you are looking for a new stylist!!

I thought long and hard about writing this review, but decided to write it to share my experience in hopes that it can help someone else make a good decision for themselves. I hadn't had my hair colored in 3 years, but decided to treat myself for my birthday. I decided to opt for a balayage and a simple cut. I wanted to make sure it looked great, so I decided to go with their most expensive, Level 5 "elite" stylist, Tara, to ensure the best results. For an elite stylist, the balayage was $220. On top of that, I was charged for a "tone with service" for $37. I then paid $87 what should have been extremely simple haircut. All in all, I paid $344 plus tip for my hair to be ruined with terrible streaky yellow highlights and home-made face framed bangs. There was nothing about anything that she did that was good. I expressed some concern to the stylist about the color and she told me to go home, wait it out for a week, and put some makeup on to see how it would look then. I found this to be pretty offensive but I was embarrassed to admit that I was wearing my make up the way I always wear it. I called the salon a week later and they did agree to give me a refund for the color services, which totaled $257 (I should have asked for a haircut refund too because the face frame that she did was honestly terrible and not blended at all), but now I am left with terribly placed yellow highlights that I am going to have to go elsewhere to have fixed. I wasn't going to have them fix it, because A.) I was already so upset I never wanted to go in there again and B.) the only thing they could do to fix it is dump an all over color over it, which then I would have paid $340 plus tip for my hair to look the same as when I walked in plus the additional maintenance now needed to keep dying it when the color over the bleach washes out. Please see the attached photo. This does not look like the work of an "elite" stylist and this is not the balayage technique at all. The color is going all the way up to the scalp in the front and then on the sides she started the color farther down. It looks like a yellow mess and I am embarrassed to have my hair pulled back at all because you can really see how streaky it is. I can't speak for the other stylists at this salon, but I would not recommend going to Tara for anything. I gave the salon a 2 instead of a 1 because they did refund my money for the color (doesn't help that I am still left with a mess though).

It was the first time that I had been to a salon since COVID started. My hair needed a cut and color BAD. I went to the stylist Tara and she was AMAZING! She helped me pick a great and manageable hair style for this new mom and fixed all my gray and grown out roots. The color was spot on. Not too dark and not too red. The perfect shade of brown that I was looking for. The salon was clean also very safe with masks and cleaning protocol. I booked my next follow appointment alreadY. Thank you Tara and chroma!

Leslie is absolutely boss! I’ve followed her from the Chroma Salon downtown to the one in QA and now to here in Wallingford. The salon itself is spacious, clean, and compliant with current health guidelines. They take your temp at the door, keep masks on during the entire service, and will now style as well as wash and shampoo.

Seven years ago I was in between hairstylists, and when I say in between I mean I really didn’t take my hair seriously and I didn’t have a stylist. Thankfully the universe recognized my woeful mistake, intervened in my life, and introduced me to Tara. I can’t say enough how important it is to have a great stylist like Tara in your corner. She makes you feel like a million bucks every time you visit and it’s like she knows how to read my mind and style my hair the way I want even when I don’t know how to explain what I want! I’m pretty sure that “mind reading” is what makes Tara truly elite. It’s been said that people do business with people they like, know, and trust. Well I can say after seven years of having my hair cut every three weeks with Tara not only do I like, know, and trust her, I fully recommend her to anyone looking to upgrade their look and style. I got my hair done here and Shelbie did a great job, I asked for something that would look good with curly hair and about four inches off. The length was perfect and I've been really happy with it! I also got a complimentary brow wax because they were offering that on the day I booked the appointment! Great salon very nice staff :)
