Great first visit with Tanya. She carefully listened during the consult to make sure of exactly what I was wanting and even during the cut to double check. I was specifically seeking a razor cut for a short bob to add texture and volume to my fine, straight hair. She did a great job and even gave me styling tips. Highly recommend. I also liked that she took pics and notes after for my next visit.

I was so looking forward for a great hair cut because Tania was supposed to be an expert on cutting curly hair but my hair looks HORRIBLE!!! I looked like a puddle ( puffy on the sides!!) It was still dump when I left the salon so I did really had an idea how BAD IT LOOKS!!! I tried to straighten to see if it might look a bit better but it looks WORST!!! I will never let her touch my hair EVER AGAIN!!!

Am new to Chesapeake area, didn’t have any info on salons good for men’s cuts. Booked an appointment with Jesse and am very happy with the haircut. Despite not having cut my hair before she did a great job! Would definitely recommend!

Finding a stylist you genuinely love is not easy… and I’m very grateful to have gotten so lucky to find Joanne here at Coastal Roots. From start to end (front desk management included!), I couldn’t ask for more. Joanne invests so much time in making sure she understands what you’re looking for, what will work with your hair type/color/length, and takes zero shortcuts getting you to where you want to be. She is truly an expert and it shows, in addition to being extremely clear and up front with expectations for any associated costs (which are well worth it). On top of the skills, she’s one of the sweetest and most genuine (and hilarious) humans you’ll come across. :)

I’m a senior that was trying to transition into my grey. I didn’t like it so much and booked with Chanler. She was patient and listened to my concerns and made sure I was clear about the color and so forth. I’m also hearing impaired and she showed me the most kindness. I was really very happy with the results and look forward to my next visit. The salon is well maintained and clean and I appreciate that as well.

This place was amazing at first. The staff and atmosphere is great. My daughter has gone here 3 times. The first time she needed quite a bit done so the almost $400 price tag was expected. The next time she went back and it was $95 just to touch up, condition treatment and trim. Well she went back about 2 weeks ago and got a touch up and some highlights and let's just say we won't be returning. One- the color isn't what she asked for, 2 it was almost $300. When she asked why the price was so different, they told her they now charge by each product used and how much is used. (Her hair is just below her shoulders, so nothing insane) She had a nice girl fresh out of rudy/kelly, not the experienced ladies like the first 2 times. Great way to price yourselves right out of the picture. You would have had a lifelong customer but not $300 for a few highlights. She didnt even get her hair dried. Came out with a wet head. Smh.

When you walk into Coastal Roots you are always greeted with lots of smiles and made to feel like you’ve come home! Lynn has been my stylist for a couple of years now. I love how she sits me down in the chair and always ask first how I’m doing and then we get into my hair. She’s always asking how do you feel about your color, your style is there anything you would like to change. Lynn’s open to my ideas and gives me her honest professional opinions. The whole time she’s doing my hair we are sharing stories of our lives. There’s never this uncomfortable silence. Yesterday as I looked around at the other stylists I noticed they were all having lively conversations with their clients as they worked their magic. I love going to a business and feeling like I matter and best of all I always walk out feeling like I have been a part of something special and my hair!!! I’ve never been disappointed. I always tell Lynn thank you for making me feel and look so beautiful❤️. If you haven’t tried Coastal Roots your missing out!

Excellent service. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Prices are competitive. You can also purchase hair products here. As a bonus, they sell trending clothing. Expect to set up an appointment, no walk-ins. Also,expect to be charged a small deposit when booking that appointment. It was an excellent experience.

The staff are warm and welcoming. Chanler is a great stylist who works so well with our teenage sons who want specific hairstyles. The best!

This place has such a cozy & welcoming vibe! I always go to Sara Guard and she always not only does an amazing job on my hair, but she’s so sweet and easy to talk to. She listens to what I want but also has such a vision and offers helpful advice so that I always walk out of there loving my new hair. I recommend her to everyone!

Absolutely dreadful service! I scheduled my first appointment online for a perm consult. It had to be approved by the stylist first, which is a great idea. Well, the stylist approved the appointment, I took off work and was ready. It was scheduled for 2 weeks later. Two weeks later, on appointment day, I got a call 45 minutes before my appointment, I live an hour from this location. The stylist can not do it because she is pregnant, and the smell of the perm makes her sick. That's understandable, but didn't she approve it? And why call me only 45 minutes before? I rescheduled with another stylist on the phone. Fast forward to the following week. I get a call, thankfully, 2 hours before my appointment this time, that unless I can be there sooner, they can not do it this day; a storm is coming and they want to let everyone go home early. Uhh... okay? Again, it is understandable, but huh? Now shew a week later I get in the car, drive an hour, prepared and ready for this appointment! Guess what... they refuse to do it because my hair is bleached. It was last bleached 2 months ago. I am completely aware, now, that they will not let you do that. BUT! WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS WHEN I ORIGINALLY BOOKED, OR AFTER THE 2 CANCELLATIONS?!?! In the online booking, there's a section for comments, and I put that my hair was bleached! Will never come here again!

Both of my kids and myself have been getting our hair done by Sara for 7 years. We followed her to Coastal Roots and absolutely love her and the salon! Everyone is so kind and welcoming there! It is such a lovely place and atmosphere!

I just starting having Sara do my hair this last year. My husband has been going to her for what seems like forever, and recommended I try her out after being unsatisfied with my previous stylist. I am so glad I listen to him! (please don't tell him that haha). Sara is so friendly and fantastic at her art. She is a great listener, quick and has helped me get my hair to a much healthier state. Every time I visit the salon, everyone that works there is always so friendly and professional. There is such variety of stylist at Coastal Roots that there is someone for everyone!

I'm reviewing Coastal Roots Salon again, because this salon gets better and better. I've been going here since day 1 and before that! My last appointment was a week ago. I had to change the appointment due to medical issues. Lynn went above and beyond to help me out. I couldn't be happier with my cut and color. As a small business owner I am very impressed with the way Lynn takes care of her clients and employees. The continuing education is non stop, which means your stylist is going to be completely up to date on how best to take care of your hair. And perms? Hey, I tried to ask Lynn to take me back to the 80's and she refused thank goodness ! Thus, I still have a full head of hair! Seriously, I listen to her!!! My last review is from a few years ago but still rings true: This is the best salon I have ever been to. The stylists all have a great deal of experience, and I'm always delighted with the results! I went thru chemo and lost all of my hair. Lynn was amazing helping me bring it back to life as it grew in. She was so careful and conservative about how to deal with my new baby fine hair, and so concerned about possible skin reactions to hair treatments. I would recommend any one with post cancer hair issues to consult with her. I have also seen the amazing and careful way she and her staff perform beautiful transformations when applying extensions, this is such a fine science and she advises clients very carefully!

The only salon that has EVER gotten my hair correct! I have extensions (individual infusions) and my stylist is so knowledgeable about them! My color is perfect, the shape.. This week was my first visit to Coastal roots. I made the appointment earlier this month paid my deposit $25. The appointment was changed and I was charged again $25. Ok no problem. When I checked out my $42 cut (I saw this on the screen) miraculously became $50 because of my deposits. Not sure what happened. I asked and they said it's a $50 cut. Also, there was a small child walking around the entire time. Not sure if that child comes with the parent all the time or there was some circumstance that day. It seemed unprofessional to have a child with the stylist. As for my hair cut, it's ok, not the worst or best. I will try a different place or a different stylist next time.

Love this salon!!! Lynn does amazing things with my hair!! She suggests things I wouldn’t think of and it is always gorgeous. They also always have such cute clothes and accessories in their boutique too!!!
