The barber was great, but the experience didn’t meet my expectations. At the start, I clearly said I wanted my hair to be light white. The barber seemed to understand, so we went ahead with the bleaching and coloring. When we finished, my hair looked more silver than white. I was told it would turn white, but it didn’t. Then, after the treatment, the barber said it wasn’t possible to make my hair that white. To be clear, I rarely leave bad reviews, but for me, setting the right expectations is very important. If I’d known my hair wouldn’t be the color I asked for, I would’ve picked a different shade or a mix of colors. Now, one month later, my hair is more blonde instead of white. I wouldn’t go back.

I love this hair salon and the customer service/experience is unmatched. I have been a regular client since last year and Tera is now my personal hairstylist at ColorBarSD. She is very professional and highly skilled. She listens to your wants and always makes sure you leave the salon with the look you asked for. I will keep coming back. They also treat you with a complimentary beverage of your choice and their prices are very reasonable for such great service and hospitality.

I've been getting consistently great color design, creative-fun haircuts & weekly blowouts for over 7 years at ColorBar. The atmosphere is delightful starting with owner, Larry, and his whole staff are wonderful. They're all service oriented and offer barista delights from a diverse drink menu! I always enjoy spending time at ColorBar. They're having a Halloween costume for best costume. What fun!

I found this place on Facebook through somebody recommending Sarah Rachel. I booked with her for my first time and she understood exactly what I wanted. She is so sweet and has such good energy around her. I loved the way she did my hair. My hair was all black and I did a complete different look. I think if i remember Valerie was in the front who greeted me very sweet as well. Offered me drinks they give complimentary. She was even able to put more quarters for me outside where i parked. I forgot Sarah did say they had parking in the back lol But overall Love it and will be going back each time.

My natural gray hair was predominantly gray in back, platinum-like in front. Larry beautifully evened out the 3-4 different shades so that they were equally distributed all around, resulting in a softly highlighted effect. I'm writing this months after, and am pleased to say that since he used only my existing, natural tones, I had absolutely no roots line as it grew out.

I've had my haircut there before and they do a good job. But just recently, I was running late to an appointment and I understand that they are busy and cannot have me making my own time for the appointment. But when they called me asking how long it was going to take me to get there? I said within 5-10 minutes which apparently wasn't a good enough time frame. She was trying to reschedule with me and I couldn't make it to either appointment and I started crying because I was stressed about being late to the appointment, and how hard it is for me to get anywhere and the person I was on the phone with hung up on me. I felt like there was no consideration for my feelings at all and I can't see myself going here ever again.

I LOVE coming to ColorBar. Larry is so talented and truly is an expert in crafting the perfect color to match your features and bring out your beauty. This is such a gorgeous salon with great people who are friendly and welcoming, I highly reccomend a service here! :)

Darlene was AMAZING. Spent lots of time going over the process, making me comfortable and I left with an amazing balayage & trim. Drove 7 hours and I WILL BE BACK!

I have so much to say about this newly opened salon! It's eye catching while you drive by. It's eye catching when you walk up to the door and it's definitely eye catching when you're actually inside! It's so beautiful, the interior decor is phenomenal and the large windows allow the natural light to infiltrate the entire salon! I went in to get a consultation first with Tori Lee, we agreed upon a hair color and I set up my appointment. I went in and the receptionist was kind and sweet and offered me a drink (Ladies and gents, they serve mimosas, flavored teas and coffee) Their chairs are super comfortable, and it was a relaxing experience all while getting my hair done. I went in for a vibrant color (purple hair) but they also offer any other hair service your heart desires. They also have a nail artist! Definitely recommend this newly opened Salon to anyone wanting a profesional hair stylist.

I was really looking forward to being a regular at ColorBar after seeing and hearing wonderful things from locals and online- but unfortunately the customer service here is toxic and uncomfortable if you are a person of size. I am a visibly plus size woman and to have stylists talk amongst themselves while you’re in the chair saying fatphobic and unkind things… was just beyond disappointing. To be treated this way from a salon that advertises so heavily to the LGBTQIA+ community was a huge let down. Most places are much more socially aware of this kind of behavior in salons, and I was honestly in shock for most of the appointment. Fortunately however Katelyn and her assistant are very skilled at what they do which is the reason for the 2 star rating, while I left feeling happy with my hair- it sucks to be dumped on in the process. Hope y’all can show more kindness to folks who may be a little different in the future.

Larry and team are pretty amazing. Each are masters at their own craft, and each takes their time, listens, and makes magic happen. I've been going to Larry for color and Ray for cuts for 12 years, and have had cuts by others in the shop when I've been in a pinch. I've never been disappointed. Front desk staff treat you well and are always helpful. I always recommend the shop to anyone looking!

Love coming here to get my hair done! Darelene and Sam are the best. The receptionist Valerie is super helpful and attentive. The ambiance is super fancy and pricing is phenomenal. If you are in Hillcrest, this is the salon to go to.

My wife and I recently moved to San Diego, and in our search for a new hair stylist, we gave ColorBar a try. We will not be returning. Our stylists made fatphobic comments within our first five minutes in the chair, making us feel awkward and uncomfortable, and the whole time I was there, I felt like I wasn’t taken seriously and was just an inconvenience. I felt nothing but indifference and judgment from Darlene after I didn’t confidently answer her initial questions about what I wanted done with my hair. Not everyone was socialized in salon culture, particularly in the LGBTQ+ community — so a little more patience and warmth would have gone a long way, particularly for a salon that prides itself on being queer and trans friendly. I know what good customer service looks and feels like in a salon environment, and this wasn’t it — far from it. Giving two stars instead of one because the assistant was so sweet, kind, and helpful (I wish I remembered her name), but that’s it.

Have been getting my hair highlighted and cut by Alan and its always perfection! He takes the time to figure out what you want and then you get it! Referred my friend here and her hair looks amazing too. Also love their products and drink menu :)

I got my roots bleached here. I’ve had platinum blonde hair for years and have had no problems with damaged hair. I was new to San Diego. I went here too get my roots done and they completely fried my hair. I’m lucky it didn’t melt off. It’s now been over 5 months since I’ve gone (i havent bleached my hair since) and my hair is so fragile and breaks off so easily. Completely ruin my healthy hair

Ruined my hair. Big focus on upcharging for olaplex treatments which don’t do anything when your hair is damaged. Stylist refused all over bleach and did hi lights instead. Fully bleached it next time but of course the hi lights weren’t uniform. Stylist was convinced that I also needed my ends bleached every time I got my roots done. It would take a couple of weeks for the roots to color correct and I was left with brassy streaks in other parts of my hair from the highlights. I saw a different stylist soon after who did damage control and I ended up cutting off most of my hair after having it color corrected. Salon doesn’t seem clean. I really wanted to like the style and give them the benefit of the doubt but I’ve wasted hundreds on awful hair the few times I went. I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy getting my hair done and how much damage was done until I found a new stylist.

This Salon is amazing! The staff is warm,friendly and very inviting! They have an amazing beverage menu. Larry is a Magician with hair color and color correction.

This was one of the best salon experiences I've ever had. Valerie greeted me warmly and offered me a complimentary drink, even letting me order off the "secret menu"! I then got a trim from the congenial Sam, with whom I had a lively discussion. Although the thorough COVID policies listed on the website are no longer in effect, I was relieved that everyone was nonetheless wearing a mask. I felt safe and welcomed at ColorBar and would gladly return.

Val greeted us when we came in for the appointment. She showed us a menu of complimentary drinks it was 2 pages! Then we went to Larry for the color and Sara for the style they were all very down to earth. And the whole time Val was checking on us making jokes she is a great first face to see for the company. The decor is beautiful you just have to check them out!

I usually have a terrible time getting my hair done. The stylist never gets it right and I end up hating my hair. This didn't happen here, I am so happy with the cut and dye. Alan did an excellent job and I absolutely love my hair. He even managed to dye my hair from black to blonde in one session. I can not recommend this place enough.
