My hair was cut by Sara and Alexis. Both did an awful job. I decided to give this salon another shot after Sara cut my hair because she was a new stylist and it was conventionally located. I regret that decision.

This review is long overdue. Here’s the short version: This is the most welcoming and inclusive salon you will find on the planet, the stylists are top-notch, and owner/stylist Alexis is the gem of all gems. I’ve been a client for about 2 years and Alexis has helped me love my hair again after all kinds of changes (more gray, growing out hair after postpartum hair loss, adjusting to this new climate). She’s taught me how to care for my curly hair and it looks the best it has in my adult life (even with the aforementioned changes). Even if she were just the stellar stylist that she is, I would continue to book with her. But on top of being incredibly talented, she is a true ray of light and always makes me feel so comfortable and happy. I went in yesterday in a pretty foul mood and left *cheerful*. She’s the real deal in every way. I love this place and will drive a pretty long commute to continue being a customer here. Thank you, Coven!

Coven salon is such a beautiful, welcoming space. I’ve been seeing Alexis for my haircuts, colors, and texture for many years now. Most recently, she consulted with me in such a beautiful and caring way, adapting to my changing needs for color coverage to feel my best self. I always feel in safe hands with Alexis and at Coven.

I fell in love with Sara at my first appointment with her about 5 years ago. I hopelessly searched for a hairstylist that could take care and style my thick curly hair for years, never feeling satisfied before I found her. But I always leave so happy from her chair, my curls have never looked better, and my hair is so healthy. She listens and always delivers, from cuts, to styling and color.

I have been coming to Coven Salon for probably 10 years or so. I started with Sara Baer and trust no one else with my hair. Over the years we've done purple, red, pink, peach, and blonde. I've had long styles and short curly shags with bangs. Sara truly knows how to make my hair behave and look its best and I love getting in her chair. The Coven has the best/most welcoming vibe, with walls covered in plants and work by local artists, and incredible music playing throughout. All the other customers and stylists are always having great conversations and I love getting to see the magic they weave together to give their clients hair they love. I always look forward to my time here!

Alexis is beyond talented and brings out the very best in my curls all while being a delightful human. Her energy is radiant and my time in her chair is always the best part of my week!

I’ve been going to Coven for all my curly hair needs ever since I first moved to Seattle almost 10 years ago. I was drawn to the curly expertise, that it’s a queer, women & BIPOC-owned business, the witchy aesthetic, and the community feel. It’s become a third space for me. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. Jennifer has been cutting my hair since 2019 and I won’t let anyone else touch it. She’s taken me from waist-length curls to shaggy bob and back again; given me the curly bangs of my dreams, multiple times; meticulously mixes my “golden mushroom” hair color magic and handpaints my highlights; is such a cheerleader for every transformation I want to do whether it’s bold or subtle, from baby blonde back to my natural brunette roots. she never chides me for coming in approximately once or twice a year and having to deal with *extensive* grow out every time!! She can chitty chat the entire time or respect your need for quiet pampering. She is simply the best. Definitely go see her. You won’t regret it. Your only possible regret will be that you can no longer see anyone else and she is extremely popular — so book early and often!!!!

Jennifer has been cutting my hair for over 10 years and she is wonderful! She really knows how to work with my curls and help me transition to wearing my natural curls after years of straightening. Now I have bouncy ringlets and Jen always makes them look amazing. Beyond that, everyone at Coven Salon is so warm and welcoming. I look forward to every appointment and always walk out with a smile. 13/10✨

Let me tell you about my girl Lydia! I've been seeing her for 2 years for my haircuts, blonding, and recently we've evolved to vivid colors. We have clicked since Day 1 and her work has been spot on and, occasionally, even more than I could have imagined. Lydia not only SERVES as my hair stylist but she also makes the whole experience so special and memorable. Before our appointments, we exchange messages and inspo pictures to make sure we are both on the same page with our vision for my hair transformations - BIG and small. Lydia consistently makes sure she communicates her process and always checks on my comfort level throughout our appointments. We also see each other regularly enough to where we spend our appointments catching up on life whilst she does her magic on my hair. I think the best part is how we both share a genuine excitement for the art she creates with hair and how absolutely stunning she is at it <3 Coven's vibes and staff are always friendly and just a breath of creative energy. It's such a charming and quirky environment. The decor is always different from the last appointment and the windows bring in beautiful natural light that I can't resist taking a cute mirror pic in. The staff are such a pleasure and have a contagious synergy that makes things comfortable and fun. Coven is an absolute treat and I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Yet another hair salon I will likely not go back to. I really wanted to like this one, everything felt right from the vibe to the vision of this place and I had high hopes when I booked my appointment. But I was yet again disappointed. I hate to leave a less than positive review on an inclusive women owned business but the service I received was quite awful. I had booked my first appointment a month before my graduation and many weeks in advance and during that month I was asked to reschedule not once but a total of 4 times. And while I am a (very) understanding person (bcs shit happens and we all need a bit of grace) to be rescheduled that many times is quite problematic and left a very bad impression. I eventually had to switch to a completely different stylist which was a fine experience but felt rushed. I know wavy hair can be ticky to style but I have never left a salon and wanted to wash my hair and style it asap like I did the day of my appointment because the stylist was so rushed and really did an awful job drying my hair (though once I styled the hair at home the haircut was not poorly done). It was clear that she just had to bite the bullet and take me because I was rescheduled to many times. Honestly for what I paid all of this amounted to a very disappointing experience. I am sure there are many talented lovely stylists who work here, and I am sure that many people have had great experiences but somehow I got very unlucky and unfortunately its one of those situations that kind of sets the tone for the salon and will keep me from returning.

Very disappointed with the customer service of this place. I've been a client for 2 years and this week I had to cancel my appointment on the day of my appointment due that I tested positive with COVID and I'm 8 months pregnant which really made me sicker. When I called they said they were going to still charge the 100% service fee. I asked to speak to the manager, and when she called 8 hours later, she laughed at me when I said I was really sick. She even told me that she doesn't have to explain any further regarding the cancellation policy they have. Her name was Alexis and was so rude pretending that she really cared about my situation. I'm never coming back to a place who only cares about money and treat customers SO disrespectful. If they treat customers like this I can only imagine how they treat their employees. Answer to the owner: I called an hour before to cancel because you were not open. I tested positive for Covid at 7am, called right at 9am( when you were open) and my appointment was at 10am. As a long term client I never had to cancel on the same day until now and this was really out of my control. So please, Alexis don’t make it look like I did this on purpose. Also it doesn’t justify your rudeness and I’m sure if I would have had an “American accent” you would have treated me with respect. I suggest you go and take customer service training with diverse populations.

Had my first dry cut here for my curly hair and maybe I need to realign my expectations but I was there for <10min and spent $105. My stylist and the staff were nice but I definitely felt underwhelmed by the experience and won’t likely return.

I had such a great experience here. It can be hard to find a place that will actually know how to cut and style curls, but they have several specialists who will absolutely take care of you! Sara was my stylist and she took great care of me! She explained everything, as I was looking for help with styling, and told me I was doing a great job taking care of my hair! They also asked me my pronouns when I first checked in, which I really appreciated. The atmosphere felt very light and comfortable and they have excellent products for sale.

I loved my time at Coven Salon! Cool location and bright atmosphere. I had a curly cut with Jazz and she's amazing- I cannot overstate how many times I've been let down with haircuts and she did not disappoint! If you need a great stylist for your curls, Jazz is your girl!

Work was fine, but they cancelled my appointment day of with no notification whatsoever, until we arrived. However, when attempting to reschedule an appointment at a later time, they charge the FULL SERVICE FEE for rescheduling.

It took me a couple of times to find the right stylist for me at Coven, but I'm glad I stuck it out and found Lydia. She has made substantive improvements to my cut and color, and is honestly the only stylist who has been able to teach me how to style my hair at home. Heads up that if you are disabled, as I am, this salon can be a significant challenge. There is no parking lot and parking is sparse near the salon right now due to serious construction that has lasted for a long time. There are also multiple stairs to enter the building and no ramp. However, if you can manage, once you're in, the salon really is gorgeous.

I love love love seeing Lydia at coven salon but today I saw Jazz for the first time because Lydia was booked. She didn’t precleanse my hair before putting in the toner and didn’t clean my scalp at all. While sitting under the dryer I ran my nails through my scalp and there was caked on conditioner mixed with dark brown toner. I have extremely curly hair and she didn’t comb through and de tangle my hair while it was wet so while styling it she ended up ripping through the knots with a brush starting at the root and most certainly caused damage. She rushed through the entire process and now I am on my way home to completely rewash and style my hair. As a curly hair salon should know, maintaining healthy curly hair is a chore and can take years to accept and love. I am very disappointed with my service and would absolutely never recommend anyone with curly hair see Jazz.

I have visited so many salons in Seattle and my experience at Coven has been the best! Luci does an amazing job on my short/curly hair, and I always leave happy. The rest of the staff/stylists are lovely and the atmosphere is so comfortable and welcoming. I will absolutely be returning to Coven for all future hair needs!

It was my first time seeking Jazz Brickhouse. I got a haircut and toner, and I'm thrilled with the results! The stylist expertly tailored the cut to enhance my thin Asian hair, adding volume and texture. The toner application was seamless, providing a natural and beautiful finish. Jazz’s attention to detail and understanding of Asian hair types truly impressed me. Highly recommend for those seeking a tailored and flattering style! She’s also very kind and extremely personable 🥰 will def be back!

I love this place. Luci always makes me feel beautiful and has given me several cuts that wear well with time. She has been cutting/coloring my hair for a couple years now, and she is the first stylist I’ve seen consistently since moving to Seattle in 2010. I also want to shout out to Dinnie, who stepped in for Luci when she caught the Flu. They gave me a choppy bob that is super cool.

My haircut was fantastic, and Scott was so helpful! He took the time to listen to what I wanted and didn't want done with the cut. I never felt rushed and was educated on dealing with my curly hair. Was seen by Luci. My hair is naturally curly (2c/3a) and it normally makes finding a salon an ordeal. My hair was pretty damaged and my only request was to try to save as much length as possible. Luci went above and beyond! She saved as much as she could while also styling my hair in a way that was both flattering and blended in the really rough spots. I can’t thank her enough! My hair looks and feels so much healthier now. The salon itself is so comfy and everyone is lovely. Worth the drive, will be returning!
