Love love love Brianna down! She did my daughter silk pressed. She was gentle sweet and even asked how I exactly wanted my daughter hair instead of just doing her own thing. She even gave good tips of helping with split while me and my daughter hair is in braids. Definitely found me and my daughter new silk press girly!

My silk press was not good. Not worth $75. It wasn’t flowy nor silky. I could have done this myself. I’m so upset I spent my hard earned money on this. The stylist was nice but I would go somewhere else for silk press Update: I was called by the owner and she listened to my concerns and feedback . I was very appreciative of that.

I've been there multiple times and was not only pampered but my hair was cared for in the highest of quality and of course my hair was fly! Making an appointment now!

This was my first time going to Curl Kitchen. My stylist moved back to her hometown - D.C and I decided to try them. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! That's it that's all! Horrible experience. I still would like to thank Jasmine for stepping in to do my hair. Bianca W.

**updated experience**I can’t leave a 2nd review but want to add about my excellent experience with Kosi. I had an appointment on the coldest day of the winter (the weekend that Chicago Public Schools closed). Kosi was professional, informative and she’s incredibly skilled at 2 strand twists. She provided n awesome service! I have only gone to Curl Kitchen as my salón of choice for blowouts and braids for my natural hair. Until my most recent service, I had always had a great experience. I was disappointed by my latest experience but owner Clare is committed to running an excellent business. She made an effort to call me and was incredibly understanding and responsive in helping me feel like a heard and valued customer. Her integrity makes me want to keep returning.

I had an appointment today with Shanise for a silk press. I showed up at 12:30 for my 1pm appointment and wasn’t greeted by anyone when I came in or the entire 30 minutes I sat in the waiting area. At 1, I went over to one of the stylists and told them it was my first time here and I had an appointment with Shanise. Shanise came out and said she might have to reschedule my appointment because she was short on time. This is all she said. Other people mentioned that Shanise told me she was leaving, but she never said that. She just said she may have to reschedule. However this made no sense because it’s not like I was late and pushed my appointment short. The second time Shanise came out she went and started my shampoo, so I thought we were good on time. However, she put me under the dryer and 30 minutes later a different lady came and told me that she was going to wash out my conditioner and Marista would do my silk press because Shanise had left. Marista had other clients that she had to squeeze me in between due to Shanise’s unprofessionalism. My appointment was at 1 and should’ve ended at about 2:30, but I didn’t make it out of the salon until roughly 4:45pm. I also had to be to work at 4, but I couldn’t leave the salon with my hair in 3 ugly braids so I had to sit there and wait. And I also had somewhere I was going directly after work that I wanted my hair to look nice for. This was my first time here, and honestly I was genuinely excited to come because I thought I finally found a professional salon, but I was mistaken. They should have called me ahead of time to cancel or reschedule before I took an hour and a half train ride here from the north side and waited almost 4 hours for a service that should take an hour and a half. I got a 15% discount on my service, but honestly it should’ve been free or at least 50% off. Because if I had cancelled last minute, I would still have to pay 50%, so the reverse should be the same.

I'm not gonna pretend it was an easy process, but they did a really nice job. They took their time on me and I got some nice product recommendations. I got highlights put in, a hair trim, and they spent an hour setting my curls for me.

*** UPDATED *** Clare, the owner, did reach out to offer a refund and that I come in and someone else would fix up my hair. I declined to come in but did accept the refund. I appreciate her reaching out and trying to make it right. That's really admirable of her and I do wish them well! *** Just okay, but wouldn't go back. I was excited to try the Deva Cut, since I always have to get my hair straightened for stylists to cut it, and I rarely ever wear my hair straight. It was a decent overall tapered cut on my short hair, but I wouldn't say it was any better than previous cuts I have gotten at half the price. The major issue was my fade and line-up were uneven. I didn't really realize it until I came home, but I am pretty sure the stylist did because of the way she was holding the mirror vs. handing it to me initially.

Avoid this salon at all cost. This was the worst salon experience I’ve ever had in my life. I had high hopes for this salon cuz they marketed themselves as curly hair specialist, so much so that I took a bus from madison wisconsin to chicago sidcifucslky for their services.The stylist was unprofessional, untalented and had no idea how to work with 4b hair. She had her 1 year old there so she barely was paying attention. I knew it was gonna be hell when she was raking through my 4b hair and told me it’s gonna hurt get over it. I gave a picture of the high lights I wanted it literally look like she did nothing at all and then charged me 245 dollars I didn’t wanna pay a dime but what was I to do in chicago completely alone.the owner is something else too she claimed she would return my money but it’s been a week, I called PayPal and they said there’s no pending payment at all and she keeps lying.I’m scared from ever going to a salon again. I hope this review helps someone not lose out on their hard earned money.AVOID THIS SHOP!!!! (Below is how my hair came out looking)

Do not trust these stylists with your natural hair! I was beyond disappointed after this appointment. I expected professionalism or, at the very least skill and expertise in natural hair, but I experienced neither. I booked with Jasmine Tibble. She was behind and overbooked. Fine, I understand these this happen, however, I came for a simple blowout but was in there for nearly 4 hours. Despite all the delays she rushed through my whole appointment, resulting in her roughly detangling my fine 4b hair with coarse brushes and combs. They say to come with detangled hair, but that's just an excuse. They shampoo you with a highly stripping shampoo, and you can feel your hair tangling as they lather it. After she nearly ripped all my hair out, she had the nerve to say due to my hair's low density, she needed to cut 4 inches off. I walked in with full bra strap-length hair and left with dry, stringy, shoulder length hair. Never again! In response to Clare: For an expert in curly hair your logic is flawed. I came in with detangled and blown out hair. What happens to curly hair when you add shampoo to it without sectioning the hair? It gets TANGLED. So regardless you will need to detangle the hair with care and patience. Your request is just to cover up the fact that your stylists don't actually have the expertise to do natural hair. And my hair was not in bad shape when I arrived... however it was in bad shape after the horrendous treatment by your stylist. Clare I hope you one day learn to take accountability and improve your business.

I got the crochet faux locs done by Jasmine. Something I've never had done before and didn't really know how his look on me. She was beyond amazing! Extremely professional and made my hair look exactly how I envisioned. I needed to schedule an appointment at the last minute and finding someone that was willing to work with my price range, it was very difficult until I spoke with Claire at Curl Kitchen. She was very helpful and being new to Chicago, having several bad experiences, I can honestly say I now feel like I found my favorite salon and the only place I'll ever go to get my hair done! And the setup and layout of the salon, was pretty cool. I love it! 🥰🥰

If you want to keep your hair, do not go to this salon. I used to have long, thick hair and now it's thin, dry and brittle. They will make it seem like it's something you are doing when the "strengthening" products they use are harsh, the techniques they use to color treat your hair are harsh, and the detangling process is harsh

The original stylist didn't not show up & the stylist who did my daughter hair cut it uneven. Did not do good job on her hair it was not a slik press at all. This my 3rd time coming & will be my last.

This past Friday, August 11th I had my hair washed, condition and blown out by Jas. She did a real good job. I'm pleased with how the owner Claire is very accommodating since my prior experience and will come back. I thank everyone for their hospitality.

This review is specifically for Vivian Clark. I had her color and silk press my hair for my first service. I later returned for two-layered tribal braids. The braids were very neat and weren't tight all. I didn't feel any tension on my edges. I've received so many compliments on my braids. My hair has been braided about a week and a half now, and I'm still receiving compliments about how neat they are and how it looks like I just left the salon. Now, I'm one who is always itching to take my hair down after a week or so. However, I think I'm actually going to get my money's worth out of this style. I highly recommend her and will be returning back. Thanks! Also, I see other reviews have mentioned that the stylists overbooked. That has not been my experience. I think I've had 3 services at this location. One of the reasons I like the salon is because I never have to wait. However, I used to be a huetiful customer and unknowingly booked here not realizing there was a change in ownership for the building. I hope the level of service still holds true.

Waste of my time. Made a first time appointment for a simple trim. Arrived on time but there was no signage for the salon. The people on the steps of the building smoking pot told me to use the side door where there were a bunch of bells for other hair salons but not CKS. At that moment, I receive a call from the salon telling me that my stylist is running in 7min late for my 1pm appt and that someone can let me in if I ring the bell upstairs. Again no signage anywhere, not a single light on nor is anyone in the salon. The only indication it’s a commercial business is a front desk and three office sized water jugs. The person calls me back to tell me the other stylist has left and cannot let me in. I tell the rep that I’m leaving at 1:15. I’m so irritated and annoyed that I planned my whole day around getting this haircut at what barely appears to be a business let alone a hair salon that at exactly 1:07 when the stylist has not arrived, I call the salon back and tell the voice (who is not in the salon) that I’m leaving. The voice says the stylist is close but I’m already so turned off by the whole experience that I just left. The voice ends up offering me the Svs for free but at that point I decline because you only get one chance to make a first impression and this one was unprofessional.

Y'all I am so mad right now. I just came from the salon to get my natural hair cut into a short tapered bob-like cut. I provided a picture and everything. Let me just say I did NOT get the cut I was expecting! My hair now just looks like a mini fro with long side bangs (think FrederickDouglas). NOT the cut i showed her the picture of. Now I'm not going to bash the salon or bad mouth anyone, because my experience is not everyone's experience. But I will say that I will NEVER come back here. The service was good, everyone was friendly, but the styling was not what it should have been. I'm just so mad right now, close to tears. They didn't charge me but that still doesn't make up for the fact that I have to walk around looking like this until my hair grows out. Like if you don't know how to cut and style natural hair just say that.

Great experience! Haven’t had my hair done professionally in almost a decade and this was a great experience back in the salon. Eboni did a great job with my hair and making sure I got what I wanted while also doing what was necessary to keep my hair healthy. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I was debating on if I would write a review or not but considering I just had a full blown anxiety attack because of my hair, this needed to be shared.  DO NOT COME HERE FOR BRAIDS! I booked an appt for butterfly locs over the phone. I've never gotten them before so I needed to know what kind of hair to get. I was told by girl who took my call to just get some pre looped crochet hair. That's it. My mistake was not asking for a brand,  width, or a length. The lady at the beauty supply store tried her best to help me. I got six packs like the website says to be on the safe side. I was assigned to Jasmine. She did a good job washing and conditioning my hair. But when I was under the steamer she asked what kind of crochet braids was I getting. I was confused as I thought I'd told the person who booked me exactly what I wanted. I showed her a picture and told her  what I wanted. Shortly after she told me she wouldn't be able to do it because the receptionist had booked a client for her right behind me. I was disappointed, but I told her I could settle for some bantu knots or rods or something. She told me it was fine that the other client was pushed back. I really wish I had just gotten bantu knots. Because what she didn't tell me was that the hair I'd gotten was NOT the hair I needed for the look I was going for. Yet she went ahead and put it in my head anyway. I had individual locs in the front, back and my edges. She braided my natural hair so tiny like microbaids then added the locs and used a lot gel. And she used all 6 packs on my head. It ended up being super puffy and full. I looked liked I had a brand new mop on my head! I did not like it at all. But it was too late. I paid $175 just to go home and struggle from 8pm to 3am to take this mess down. My hair is long and it was healthy and freshly trimmed. I managed to retain my length minus one piece of hair I accidentally cut. And now my ends looks fried. I cried so hard. I'm still upset because it was a freaking nightmare to take this stuff down and I trusted that I would have been taken care of professionally and that I would walk away with a protective style for the rest of the winter. NEGATIVE. These people are not open and honest with their clients! And they need to do a better job at specifying WHAT kind of hair to get for braid styles since they do not supply the hair! Ive come here a few times for my blowouts but I think this will be my last time period. I am traumatized.

Update: The owner was very responsive and offered a refund, new style and/or removal (I declined). I expect the stiffness is due to the style that is not done often. I recommend removing it as an offering. Also the staff was nice. Stiffest hairstyle I've ever received.

We've used two different stylists from service here, and it's always a great experience. Will definitely go back. Pleasant atmosphere and clients are not duble/triple booked.
