I'm back to my original hairstylist. Although September is good. I was put off by she gives you a perfect off your first cut and style for a positive review on social media. Who wouldn't do that. But the most unsettling thing is when coloring my hair she did not listen and would not go as light as I wanted for hightlights. I am 52 I understood that I would need extra attention to my hair after the coloring. The third problem I encountered was she changed her hours and aggressively trying to put me in a schedule that I could not do. I'm back at Great Lengths. I pay only about 10% more and have SO much less drama and they work with my visions in a more professional manner.

After a few months of going back in forth on whether to post a review, I'm here to give my honest thoughts. I saw September near the end of January, and was super excited to finally get some help with my poofy, frizzy hair. I had attempted to style it on my own, but I really needed someone to sit me down and tell me what to do. September did provide me with helpful tips and gave me a good haircut. However, she lacks professionalism and organization. September asks you to watch some videos on her Facebook page before you come in, but the links led to deleted posts, and it is nearly impossible to navigate her Facebook page. I bought the products she recommended, and they made my hair very dry, frizzy, and tangled. That was very disappointing, especially since they aren't cheap. Overall, I was very disappointed, especially after seeing all the five-star reviews.

I've had my appointment scheduled for a few months and it was supposed to be next week. I had asked if September could do haircuts for kids as young as 5 or if she knew anyone who did. She surprisingly offered to cut my daughter's hair at my appointment but said she would need a picture of her before she could give me a better quote and make it official on the books but to let her know. I agreed, said I wanted it and thought I understood since she had already seen my picture back when I had first made my appointment but later that night as I was working on getting the baby to sleep and still hadn't got a moment to myself to decide on a picture, I got a text saying she was taking my daughter off the books. I told her I was really disappointed and surprised and that maybe she should let clients know in the future when there's a time limit to sending the photo. She said she understood and would cancel MY appointment immediately and that Cain's Curls could do my hair. My sister loves them but they're almost an hour away from me. I have 3 kids and a chronic illness flaring up after having my baby so I was really trying to go somewhere close to my home in Lakeland, TN.

Poor customer service. I requested my dry cut and this is the response I received after saying my husband was afraid to travel the icy roads from Jonesboro to Memphis. Could I schedule my dry refresh haircut? Any Saturdays available? That's about the only day I can get to Memphis. Thank you Saturday February 20th 11 am? How does that work for you . September Young I wish but my husband is afraid to travel from Jonesboro Saturday due to the roads. I believe we are available other Saturdays except March 13th. That is 6 days from now but I will look for another date Just text me when he feels he's comfortable driving Never mind Never mind because he's not going to feel comfortable driving? Never mind about finding something further than 6 days from today? You've decided to keep your appointment? I'm not a mind-reader what are you trying to say Don't worry about scheduling further appointments for me. CANCELLED

Terrible customer service. Cancelled my second appointment I had held for 5 months when it was only 3 weeks away. No explanation and no apology. Reply: Stop lying. On Facebook you said I had never been to your salon. I had the appointment for 5 months, you lost the info and asked me to reconfirm which I did. I have the text at 9:30am saying you put me back on the books and then you cancelled me at 3:30pm that same day because I hadn’t had time to reply yet to the second message. Terrible customer service.

I have had a few hair cuts by September and each time I felt like a child. She scolds you for not taking caring of your hair (I wear pony tail holders and that is a huge no no of hers, among other things). I do not wish to sit for 2 hours being told what I'm doing wrong, that I haven't followed her hair rules and that I needed to read her binder of hair facts again (she makes you read this the 1st time you come). She gets pretty upset and rude. I was extremely put off by these experiences! Never again!

While I was looking very forward to my cut, I actually never got to it. When I received my list of rules of the salon experience was going to be like during Covid, I decided to cancel. While I completely understand the precautions in this very unique time, I felt the extra ones September was putting into effect would not make for an enjoyable experience. Upon receiving my cancellation she became very unprofessional and rude.

I just moved here to Memphis from Los Angeles and I must say I have never had a better haircut!!! September is the curly hair doctor for real!!! I will definitely be back for her knowledge and expertise!!! She is a lovely woman with so much to share!

Negative experience with this salon and owner. The prices kept changing, I was told $60 for a cut and the price more than doubled. She will try to sell you everything from hair products, silk pillow cases, scrunchies and towels. Be prepared for a huge sales pitch. I was told I needed to attend a more expensive boot camp after attending and paying for the $60 boot camp. When I expressed frustration, I was told to go to her competitor. She has a lacking bedside manor and is actually quite dismissive and rude. I won’t be going back. Plenty of others who do hair and treat people kindly.

From the first message to the finish of the haircut, September helped me transform my wavy, thin hair to just what I was imagining! I chose her salon because of the level of teaching and knowledge she brings to each haircut. She knew exactly what to recommend for my hair and how to cut it. I learned so many tips and tricks to manage my curls. All of the information on the internet can be overwhelming. It was great to have a one-on-one tutorial specifically catered to my hair needs. My hair was dry (even though I conditioned ALL THE TIME!) when I walked in but September walked me through my DevaCurl education and how my hair needed moisture but the products I was using weren’t actually moisturizing my hair. By the end, my hair looked shiny, and my curls were beautiful, big ringlets.

September is the queen of curly hair !! My hair was so dehydrated and dead when I came in to see her. After all of her tips and techniques, my hair is glowing. This was a birthday gift from my mom and one of the best gifts I've ever received. September was great from the moment I called to make an appointment. She greeted me at the door and from there we chatted and I felt the love for my curls for the first time EVER! She took the time to teach me how properly wash my hair. I'm excited to use the "antibiotics" and see the even better results of my hair down the road. Won't go anywhere else for hair cuts!

This was absolutely the best haircut I have ever had. I even traveled from another state just to come to Curls by September! I learned so many new things about my hair and how to do get the perfect curl. I love my new haircut and will definitely come back again. I strongly recommend this amazing salon!!!
