The Salon: I went there for the first time and completely missed the fact that it is inside Sola Salons, so just a heads up there. It's super cute inside with a bunch of little shops and Curly Hair Austin has a small 2 seat salon. It was pretty nice not having a million and one people in there like a usual larger salon. The Cut: Charlie is awesome. I went there for the first time and he was very focused and asked me/listened to what I wanted done, and styled my hair beautifully after the cut was done. I've had nightmare experiences, as most curly haired people have (getting layers when I asked for none, cutting front part way too short, etc.), and this was a great experience. He didn't try to push any products on me, and was just a genuine person who clearly enjoys his work and isn't there just for a paycheck. He is an artist! And he also didn't make me feel pressured to talk the whole time, which as an introvert, that is a huge bonus to just be able to go and relax and not feel obligated to say much. The Purchase: Maybe this is just a me thing, but I appreciated the more modernized way of paying from a phone as opposed to the awkward desk reception interaction at other salons. Charlie gave me physical space when I was checking out, and I didn't feel like there was a rush to make a quick decision on tipping. Overall: I've had some weird salon experiences in the past that made me feel uncomfortable or pressured, and this salon was a breath of fresh air. There's a reason why they're busy!

I loved my experience with Sherry! I had not gotten a haircut in years and it was my first time getting a curly cut ever! Sherry really knows curly hair and is so genuine! She offered a lot of tips for me to take care of my hair at home.

Last time I went to a salon that chopped the heck out of my curly hair. This time I decided to go to a place that knows how to cut curly hair. It was a bit expensive, you're paying for their expertise. I was very happy how they corrected the errors the salon had made and it's not something I would do every month but I will return. It's okay to pamper yourself once in awhile.

Sherry always helps me get the most out of my curls at each visit. Since I was a kid I've always had PTSD from previous cuts which turned into curly neglect over the many years of my curl journey (I didn't grow up knowing how to take care of my curly hair). Sherry always asks the best questions and hears what I'm saying to ensure she's helping me get what I really want from my curls. She's great at educating on different methods of product application and styling techniques. I feel like I learn new tricks each time. I've NEVER been happier with my hair until now.

April 2023: We love Curly Hair Austin. Myself and my kiddo see Sherry and her skills are as great as her personality. I've always had a tough time with haircuts, as my hair is especially difficult. Strange curl patterns and thickness that rarely lends itself to a cute shorter cut. But somehow, Sherry always has me leaving the salon super proud of my new look. She's also so easy to talk to. She's kind and so considerate. Funny and empathetic. My kid rarely opens up to people easily and they took to Sherry by the second visit. They really took ownership of the look they wanted and Sherry genuinely listened. We both got exactly what we wanted when we came in. Sherry is a great, talented find and a beautiful soul to know. 💜 Updating: Another great cut from Sherry Sept 2023. I love my visits with Sherry and Charley so much. Great hair and great company. I absolutely love this salon. 💖

I haven't had a professional haircut since 2019 and am thrilled after my appointment with Sherry! She is such a good listener and clearly cares about her clients and what they are asking for. She took the time for me to assess and ask for any adjustments along the way. She taught me new strategies to have my natural curls hold better and I could tell how much she cared not just about me walking out satisfied with how my hair looks today, but also being able to continue styling it in very doable ways on my own to accentuate my curls. So grateful to have found this salon and been able to support such a fantastic small business!

I've been to many curly hair salons over the years in many different cities and this is by far the best one I've experienced, thanks in large part to Charley. He's friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and easy to connect with, which made it easy to trust him with a slightly shorter asymmetrical style than I'd previously tried (for reference, I have so-called Type 3B curls). And he seemed to know just the right tricks to achieve the look I was going for without me needing to explain too much. He also gave me great, easy at-home styling tips to consistently shape my curls the way I like. I also like that the salon is fairly small - I've had the chance to talk with the owner and interact with other patrons, making it feel like a more of a community space than other salons. And, of course, the prices are very reasonable. I'll be trying to make appointments with Charley whenever I'm back in town!

My daughter had her hair done with Sherry today. She was very professional and friendly. She explained what she was doing every step of the way and made sure my daughter understood how to replicate what she was doing at home. She didn't try to force us to buy any products. Highly recommend this salon for curly haired people!

Sherry is so awesome. I have been so disappointed with so many salons that advertised they know how to cut curly hair but they don’t. She knows how to cut it and it and it looks great after. I have never been so happy with my hair until now.

Sherry was fantastic! Super informative and sensitive to what I was looking for. As someone who is very only recently trying to take proper care of my curly hair she gave such a good education without feeling pushy or trying to over sell any products and most of all the cut looks great! Will for sure be coming on back 10/10

This place is great! They give great cuts for curly hair for a reasonable price - that is so hard to find. Everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable. I drive from South Austin to come here and won’t go anywhere else now that I’ve found it!

Charley made me feel comfortable and relaxed and he did a great simple layered cut. The length is perfect short enough to feel fresh and long enough to pull back. Will definitely go back for my next hair cut. And the Re-Coil product is great. Definitely hydrated my dry hair and does not weigh it down.

I came here in hoping for at least decent results, but left with the hugest smile on my face! My stylist Sherry was sooo sweet and explained to me all the methods that could possibly be damaging my hair. They didn’t push me to buy any products at all and just treated my hair with absolute kindness, and with their amazing work I bought some anyways. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this service to anyone who is looking for a reliable and educated person for their curly cut. Sherry is extremely well informed with lots of experience and gave me a great cut. Even learned more tips as to how to perfect my curly routine. No pushing of certain products or techniques, but a general sense of “how can we make your hair what you want it to be?” Location is nice, private, and easy to locate.

Sherry was so kind and communicative during my first cut. She really listened to my concerns about previous cuts, collaborated with me about keeping my length while shaping my hair, and talked through how I actually WEAR my hair before she started cutting. I walked away with a haircut I really love!
