I had the best experience at Cutler! I am a first-time client since I am only visiting New York for a few days. Coral did my hair (haircut and single process color ), and it looks amazing. She got my wavy big hair to sit in a gorgeous shape, and the color is just perfect. Highly recommended!

I'm not one to leave reviews ever but feel the need to recount this bad experience. I booked an appt online for a hair cut although I just needed a bang trim. I figured it might be confusing so I called days ahead to clear up that it would just be a bang trim. Their policy is if you see your original stylist, bang trims are free. If not, then it's a flat rate of 25$. Fair. In the past I've paid the $25 for the bang trim. I showed up on time, waited about 10 minutes and the man who came over to get me didn't even introduce himself. After some searching I can confirm his name is Sam Bullen. I sat down to explain I need my overgrown curtain bangs trimmed about 3 inches. He told me this would be more than a bang trim and that he would charge $50 to do it. He had an attitude when he spoke to me. He didn't explain why this would not be considered a bang trim. He was quick to get me out of his chair & said he'll see if anyone else working is willing to do it for $25. I waited another 5 minutes & then he came back and told me no one else was free. The entire interaction lacked basic customer service. He was arrogant, pretentious and rude. I booked the appointment a week in advance and came all the way to Williamsburg just to be turned away over 25$. I'll never come back to this place again & after reading other reviews I see I'm not the only one who feels the customer service here is seriously lacking.

I was recommended this spot by a friend. When I got to the salon, I had to wait a half hour before I even started getting my haircut. The haircut was extremely rushed, there was no product used and it was not blow dried. I asked for face framing layers but only got two very small pieces of hair on either side of my face cut (referred to as a “fringe”) which looks ridiculous. All in all, I’m extremely disappointed with the cut that I paid $190 for.

This was my second time getting my haircut by Leila, and I think she did a wonderful job. She is patient, listens, and is really good at understanding your vision. I highly recommend getting your haircut by her.

I’ve given them so many chances but they never deliver. At the price, I’d expect to look great coming out but for some reason I always look worse than when I entered. I added a star because the front desk is very kind and they will reschedule you for a complimentary service yet I still leave with a mediocre cut.

I had an unpleasant hair cutting experience here at my first time at cutler Williamsburg. The stylist upon initial introduction had a rude tone, seemed rushed, wasn’t welcoming in her demeanor at all (thought maybe she was just having a bad day). I showed her pics of a 90s blowout with curtain bangs. Several minutes into the haircut, I asked her if I could actually get it about an inch and a half shorter, her response was very rudely: “I’m literally already almost done cutting your hair.” Basically insinuating that no I couldn’t have it shorter because it would take too much of her time…. (not to mention I’m paying $160 for a plain cut…). Im not typically one to complain or make a fuss so I shrugged it off and said the length was okay then. At the end of the cut, my bangs were so SHORT, and looked nothing like the curtain bangs I had showed her, it was clear she didn’t know how to cut curtain bangs because when she asked me how I liked them I said “I wish they were longer, and the right side of the bangs is not symmetrical to the left” and she responded by saying “I already told you that the right side is thinner because you have less hair on that side” (?. Mind you, I have gotten beautiful curtain bangs before). I said I just wished they were longer but that it wasn’t a big deal, it’s hair and it’ll grow back and she responded with “well, that’s literally what you asked me for” SO RUDE! Did not seem apologetic or willing to fix it at all, just showed me the way to the register without even saying bye or thank you. I’ve never not tipped a stylist for a haircut, but this was my first. Unfortunate. Besides the botched haircut, the way she treated me is what really sent me. Hope that stylist figures out how to be happier in her day to day. EDIT: cutler’s manager did refund me for this haircut immediately, which I appreciate a lot. They also set me an appointment with the manager to fix my haircut for free. I really appreciate this response by them.

I've been getting my hair cut by Blakely for years and pray she never moves out of NYC because she is the best. I have lots of hair but it's fine, and she manages to give me the perfect short cut every time. I used to think I couldn't pull off short cuts because of my stick straight hair, but it turns out I was just in need of a talented stylist who knew the right way to cut my hair. I get compliments on the cut all the time (blunt but not too blunt, easy to style on my own, grows out nicely, hangs perfectly). I highly recommend Blakely and Cutler in general. Plus, everyone there is cool!

I’ve been going here for a couple years now and honestly Jeffrey is the best hairdresser. I have long wavy hair and he always gives the perfect cut that grows out so well. I’ve also gotten a cut by Blakely and recommend her as well, she’s wonderful ! Great service and very welcoming and comfortable experience :)

I’ve been going to Cutler on Grand for 4 years. Nathan is my hairdresser and he is an artist (I’ve seen at least 3 other stylists in a pinch and they were all great too). I have long thick wavy hair. Nathan has given me nothing but perfect cuts. He advises me when I’m going over the edge (like when I wanted to chop it all off), and helps craft the cut I really want. I’ve never had a bad cut with him. Including recently when he did a shorter cut on me. It came out exactly how I imagined I wanted it to look. The colorist (I can’t remember his name but he was so good!) did beautiful highlights before the summer. I’ve taken my mom there when she visited and my sister (who used to be a hair stylist). Both loved their cuts too.

To say I’m upset is an understatement. When I made the appointment I STRESSED about the importance of having someone comfortable with blondes and long hair. Neither of which I got. While the colorist was lovely, my hair when I walked in was blonde and had life, now is mouse brown and boring with zero depth and interesting appeal. She was nice enough but blonde is not her strong suit. The “lovely” experience does not end there, it proceeds to get worse. The “stylist” needs to not only have a title change but maybe a career change. The hair cut by the “stylist” is awful. She over cut it, thinned it which I did NOT ask for, actually when asked I said I didn’t want it thinned yet she felt it necessary to do “behind the ears anyway,”!like she was doing me a favor. Outside of the haircut that I didn’t ask for, I was put in the most uncomfortable position as this girl made antisemitic comments as she had scissors in my hair. I’m so sad, disappointed, and now have to find someone to fix this overall mess that is now my hair. It’s going to take me years to grow out this botched hair cut.

Gaby is a miracle worker. Truly. I came in for just any type of help at all after a week of disastrous hair appointments (first, a balayage that was streaky and chunky and over all terrible, followed by an attempted "correction" that sent me to a weird blonde and still didn't fix the chunky color). I was lucky Cutler even had time for me, since I was leaving for a flight later in the afternoon. Called in, got an appointment with Gaby, and she immediately saw the issue without me having to explain it, and walked me through my different options for fixing my hair while avoiding more damage. She gave me low lights and corrective color with a glaze, and honestly am obsessed with how it turned out. Thank you Gaby!!

Melanie is my savior. I got my hair dyed elsewhere way too blonde and with just a simple glaze she absolutely saved me. She shows photos, and extreme attention to detail. I couldn’t recommend her more highly as a colorist. She’s incredible!!!!

Absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had. JASON chopped the top of my hair off and completely ruined it. I’ve had to wear my hair up and with 85 Bobby pins everyday since he cut my hair. FOR A YEAR I Haven’t felt good about myself due to this traumatic experience. DO NOT GO HERE. I would add photos but I’m so embarrassed and ashamed. CUTLER SAYS THAT they resolved the issue BUT THEY DID NOT. Giving me my money back doesn’t actually do anything.

I had a great experience coming here last week! The salon is super cute and calming, and Sam gave me a great haircut! He took the time to talk through what cut I wanted before the wash, which I loved! He checked in with me every step of the way during the cut. Would recommend!

I had an appointment with Gabby a little over a week ago and I had an amazing service. Gabby was so kind, understanding and realistic with hair expectations. She took care of me and so did everyone else at the salon. Such a welcoming and safe environment. Would definitely recommend 10/10.

I've been going to Gaby for the past 15 years and will not go to anyone else. I trust her implicitly. I'm a natural brunette who's who a redhead at heart and loves to experiment with different shades of red. Gaby is a master at color and also a great listener- she really connects with what her clients want and then gives thoughtful feedback. Go to Gaby for color and if you want red hair- def go to Gaby bc she is the best in her field.
