I never do reviews but Ms.Flo will definitely be my first. I added some pics (before and after i installed my wig) of her assistant’s (Mariam) work. I needed to get 12 braids for a wig and they washed and deep conditioned my hair. They also blew it out to stretch my hair before braiding. What I love about Ms.Flos shop is how kind she is, she actually makes sure you know what you want and what will happen. No bullshit. No run-arounds.. she will even allow you to bring your own supplies if necessary. Her assistant is also very respectful and careful with my hair. Her washes put me to sleep everytime! Haha! I definitely would give this place a try. You wont regret it.

I had the BEST experience getting my hair done by Florence, the Empress of Hair. The title is well deserved. Flo and Miriam (who prepped my hair) were so professional and patient... and Flo talked thru what i wanted with me. It was a great time and experience. Definitely coming back. First time. Today was my first appointment but certainly not my last. Mrs.Flo is very knowledgeable warm and welcoming. The drive from Jersey was well worth it. I believe my natural hair journey will be amazing with the expertise of Mrs. Flo. Don't walk people lol run and make your appointment.

Before I started coming to Empress OF Hair my hair was damaged. Now that I have been coming here my hair has grown. I love all the hair styles that my hairstylist does. I’m always satisfied with the work that they do. I recommend this place of business.

Florence did an amazing job on my locs! My previous "locticians" damaged my hair. I came to Florence and she expertly repaired my locs and brought them back to life! I will be coming back from Virginia to Florence regularly as my permanent loctician. I highly recommend Empress of Hair!

Many times I have been told that my hair is “too short” to twist, but Ms. Florence did not make that conclusion. My hair was washed, conditioned and “twisted.” No wigs this summer!! I enjoyed the great relaxing environment of her salon and plan to return every two to three weeks for service. Thank you - Blessings!!

I absolutely love my haircut. I made the decision to go natural and knew I wanted to do the big chop. Empress was so nice and understood my needs. Even before we did the big chop she asked me if I was sure because of the length it was going to be and that made me feel good. A lot of hair stylists will try to pressure you or persuade you to do what they want but not her. She respected my decision and made me feel empowered. Her shop is clean and welcoming with nice music playing. There’s not a lot of chaos and people soliciting. I really enjoyed my experience as it was calming and relaxing. I am super excited to continue my journey with her. Thank you so much.

I never had a hair clip before and Florence chose the best match to my hair and taught me how to use the clips. She loves her work and it shows in the amount of time she spends with her clients. I went to get help color-correcting a bad ginger dye from another salon. I had three different colors in my hair, and Auntie Flo worked her magic. Not only did she ensure I had one color, but she also tapped into her craft to give me a beautiful copper color. The exact color I wanted. So many people gave me many compliments. I am due soon for an appointment and I am excited!

I’ve been going to Empress of Hair for over 8 years now and wholly trust Flo with my hair. She is gentle, knowledgeable, and provides a great and peaceful environment for doing hair. Also, the Empress of Hair organic hair serum has provided hydration to my hair and kept it healthy in between appointments. Mrs. Florence is a game changer. She is truly amazing at what she does and is such a genuine human being. From the moment we first met, I felt like I knew her my entire life and knew my hair was in the best hands. She worked magic into my hair, taking the time to learn my hair texture and advise me on how to care for it. When she washed and shampooed my hair it felt as if her hands were touched by GOD. She was so gentle and caring throughout my whole sew-in process, making my first ever sew-in truly memorable for all the right reasons. Review of Empress Of Hair Salon Helen G. Dec. 29th 2023 visit. I’ll be back! If there were ten stars I would give all ten! The best experience I have ever had at a hair salon. Florence knows hair! I have styled my own hair for years but needed a cut. My sister is the hair queen and her stylist was booked until the end of January 2024 so she found Empress Of Hair salon at 2473 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. I telephoned and spoke with Florence who’s manner was so pleasant and welcoming. She asked what services I wanted, my hair type, gave me the price, and I was all set for 10am on Dec. 29th. Being the first appointment I arrived early and even ate beforehand (I am not a breakfast person) because I did not know how long I would be in the chair. Florence arrived early with a hearty, cordial welcome, impeccably styled with beautiful hair. The gate rolled up by remote control and we entered the store. The tastefully appointed sitting area had neatly stacked fashion magazines. Mirrored shelves held jewelry for sale together with E.O.H.’s Crown Cure serum, which I purchased, of course, after the fantastic result of my double strand twist style! Shelves on the wall in front of the styling chairs held natural hair wigs that even I wanted to try. Lovely paintings adorned the walls and a table with bracelets and scarves for sale were delightfully displayed with clutch purses. A rack of the most stylish clothing in patterns my eyes kept moving around stood next to a sewing machine. I felt at home as jazz filled the space and before Florence started on my hair I was offered a cup of tea :-) Florence’s shampoo and conditioning products have an invigorating aroma, some with a subtle hint of mint that stimulated my scalp. While sitting under the dryer for my deep conditioner Florence somehow knew just the magazine to give me to read. It was an Elle magazine and the article that stood out was about the love Dolce and Gabbana have for life and how that translates into their designs. About how a concept is what one pays for. After the deep conditioner I sat for my haircut and twists. Wow, Florence proceeded with focused, effortless, precise movements twisting and securing each strand at the end by aligning the curls and making them lock into place so they wouldn’t untwist. I did not think my hair would be able to hold this style. Florence replied that if I had no idea of the style I wanted this would be her suggestion. The products Florence uses are not heavy and after drying my hair after my style my hair was not stiff! While I was there a lady came in to be measured for one of Florence’s natural hair wigs. I wished I could have stayed to observe that process, but a scarf at the front caught my attention. I purchased that scarf, bid by good byes and walked into the end of 2023. After about two and a half hours at E.O.H. I knew I had found a hair stylist for life. Dolce and Gabbana see beauty as medicine for the world; Florence makes beatification fun! I will be at E.O.H. in the Spring for my birthday hair style. Thank You Florence!

( Seen on 2/09/2022) Just moved back to the area, and have been looking for salon to do my hair. Flo took my appointment when my hair really needed to be done. She brought hair back to life; her years of experience show! The salon was clean, relaxing to the point you would forget the you were in the heart of NYC. I would recommend looking at the items in the front the store before leaving too( bought some waist beads). I would highly recommend and will be going back.

I came to New York for the New Year Holiday, while being here I need my locs retwisted. My cousin friend put me on to Empress of Hair and I most say I had the best retwist time ever. I walked in to some cool jazz music and a very cool atmosphere. I loved it as soon as I walked in. The owner is so sweet and she explains everything she does in Detail to you. I needed a few repairs done I didn’t even know until she explained it to me and she fixed so good. It’s a wonderful experience to get your retwist done while you’re in New York.

I see why people gave 5 stars, I had an awesome first-time experience! My hair was washed, deep conditioned and trimmed for $55 and I purchased a conditioner for $20 (which works for my hair!) and I really appreciate that Florence was so accommodating last minute. I'll definitely be back! 😊

Mrs.Florence is a true gem! She accommodated me for a last minute appointment over the weekend. I entered her shop and was greeted with a smile. The space is well curated and serves as a one stop shop with plenty of fabulous clothes, shoes and jewelry offerings in the boutique area and a nice intimate salon area. There was also wonderful music playing throughout my appointment (Hello Coltrane and Nina!). The vibe is intentionally soothing and optimistic. Mrs.Florence's warmth and care shone through as she gently combed through, thoroughly washed, deep conditioned, blow dried and silk pressed my hair. She then gave me a much needed trim. Mrs. Florence communicated with me about the condition of my hair, answered my many questions and gave me at home care instructions. It is obvious that she is passionate about all things hair. I really appreciate the amount of time and patience that she put into my coif and I left her chair feeling like a brand new woman. Her hands are truly gifted. If you want an excellent hair experience, stop by Mrs.Florence. She is a cut above the rest. P.S Ask about her homemade Crown Cure Root Replenisher oil. Mrs.Florence, Thank you so much!

Personally, I’m very particular about my hair and who I allow to touch it. Auntie Flo actually takes the time to understand the guests as she does someone hair. She asks all the right questions and develops a bond with anyone that sits in her chair. Maybe it is from her years of experience or her consistency in each of her styles she performs. I‘ve come to realize how talented she is at producing quality in a short period of time while maintaining satisfaction, encouraging people to keep coming back to her salon. All and all, in my opinion she is a true empress of hair.

Whoa! Where has this Harlem Gem been all my life? I was just about to give up on finding a Black Stylist out here that is well-versed in hair care, and also SLAYS. Master Stylist (Lovely Lady) Florence is truly a God send. From the minute I entered her beautiful studio, sat in her chair, got my hair & issues assessed, the shampoo, and everything in between was amazing. She is very courteous, hospitable, professional, and efficient. Rendering the utmost in services that far exceeded my expectations. God definitely answered this prayer when I Blessed up on EOHB Studio.

While she does run by appointments, Flo still accommodated me with minimal notice, plus REALLY understood what I was looking for.
