I discovered this place a while back, and I called to get more details. A very professional person explained the difference between the services offered by the students and the professionals. I decided that I wanted to get a service later. The next time I called, I spoke with someone who did not identify herself, but I assumed that it was the owner, Miss Faith. I explained that I wanted two strand twists with hair added. I knew that that would need to be done by a professional and not a student, as per our previous conversation. She gave me a phone number to contact. She said that this person would be able to do this style. She indicated that I should send a text message because that particular stylist was currently engaged with a client. I did so, and the stylist responded to me promptly. I put down in writing in the text message that I wanted two strand twist with hair added. I asked what the price would be. She texted back that the price would be $90, and we scheduled an appointment for a week out. On the day of the appointment, the stylist sent me a text message stating that she did not realize that I wanted hair added. I asked her if she was still able to do the style. She said yes. When I arrived at 3:00 p.m. on a weekday, there was no one around. When I walked in the door, the chime had an audible announcement that said something like door open. I assumed this was to let people in the back know that a customer had entered the building. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing, and I appreciated the purple color schemes. I was surprised to find that there were curtains across individual boots. I thought it would be a pretty cool private salon experience. After sitting for a few minutes, nobody came to the front. I called my stylist. I could hear her in the back of the building answer the phone. She stated that she would be up shortly, and she was. Apparently, she was just finishing up with a client. The stylist explain to me that due to me wanting hair added, the price had increased from $90 to $150, which I agreed to pay. I was not thrilled because I had explicitly indicated in writing that I wanted hair added, and I didn't feel that it was my fault that she failed to pay attention. Anyway, she shampooed my hair, and I felt she did a great job with that. Then, she began to attempt to do the two strand twists. I could tell that she didn't seem fully comfortable by the way it felt. I have had two strand twists done many times in the past, and I have a sense of what a confident twister feels like. This wasn't that. After she put in three or four twists, she explained to me that she did not know how to do the style. She said that she didn't want to mess up my hair and waste our time. I wasn't surprised because she had already told me that it would take her at least 4 hours to put in the twist. Normally, it takes people 2 to 2.5 hours to put twists in my hair. Yes, I have full thick long hair. Ultimately, I asked her what she could do for me in the next hour and a half to get me out and on my way. She told me that she could do two large cornrows with the fake hair that I had. We did that, and it looked great. She charged me $50. It has lasted a couple of weeks with minimal fuzzing. She had her small son in the booth with us. This did not really bother me because my kids went everywhere with me when they were little, so I get it. However, some people would find this to be unprofessional. The bigger issue for me is that she spent nearly the entire time on the phone. She called everyone from her insurance company to get recommendations on a new physician to her child's school to the dentist office. I find this to be really off-putting and unprofessional. As a female who does not drive, I am always looking for a stylist who is close by and affordable. I thought this place might have filled that, but I am still searching. It's too bad. I was hopeful.

I have been going to this salon that was recommended to me for over a year now. I decided to cut all my hair off for the first time ever and Mrs. Faith the owner always looks out. I have gotten my hair down by hair four times so far. She always responds quickly, good spirits when I enter, and even if she has a client in her chair I’m never waiting long at all. Definitely glad I found her and I would recommend her to others for sure!

I have never written a review, prior to this one, because I have never felt compelled or inspired to write one, until now. It would be completely selfish, on my part, if I did not shine a "much needed light" on FJ Beauty Studios & Academy. Women with high standards want and expect the best for their time and money. Personally, finding the perfect hairstylist is just as important to me as finding the perfect outfit, shoes, makeup, or home. This salon and my stylist (Faith Johnson, the owner) successfully achieve and exceeds my expectations, each and every time. When I relocated to Virginia Beach a little more than two years ago, during the height of the Corvid pandemic, I searched for months to find an expert and talented hairstylist without success. I am grateful that I discovered Faith! I thank God that I have an expert hair-care manager and stylist that knows how to make my hair "model worthy," with her amazing talent and TLC hair management. What impresses me the most about this salon itself, is that it is set up to provide private client services. This multi faceted establishment is a "one stop" beauty-care Studio, where their clients may receive services for hair, nails, eye lashes, eye brows, etc. When you find a gem, you treasure it. The owner, Faith Johnson, and FJ Beauty Studios & Academy are precious gems for women of Hampton Roads, and especially for Virginia Beach.

Listen I purchased a headband unit from the owner over 4 years ago. A few days ago I pulled it out and wet it and it looked brand new. I was amazed because it's been so long. I highly recommend FJ Beauty Studios for all your beauty needs!!!!
