I've never felt more like myself, and I owe it all to Jen and this magical place called Folklore.

Folklore Salon & Barber is the best place to pamper yourself, your hair, lift your spirits, laugh, or cry and feel comfy in a beautiful LGBTQ space. I have been a client here for over 12 years and have never had a bad experience. They even transform my own self-inflicted, horrible color and cut experiments. :)

I came in for a hair cut and style after not having any haircut for 4 years!! I’m super particular about who cuts my hair but after finding out about this salon I felt confident in getting my hair cut here. Now, I have my go to salon from here on out!! And stylist too 🥰 My appointment was with the lovely, SOPHIA!! 💕 they were absolutely amazing. From the moment I started talking to her about what I wanted I could tell she understood what I meant right away, they made me feel super comfortable & heard too. The whole experience with Sophia was amazing! Not to mention, the end result of my hair was absolutely beautiful & everything I asked for but even better!! Can’t recommend this salon enough !! Sophia is beyond talented and amazing but I know all the stylists here are great too.

I love my hair cut by Leigh! I came in with frazzled hair, not knowing what I wanted, and left feeling more myself and put together. They expertly sculpted my natural waves. Highly recommend!

Demi cut my hair and she was nothing but accommodating for the style I was looking for! A great listener and conversationalist. Demi makes you look good and feel good. It really is in their name, it is a place of folklore. A mythical barber shop!

I’ve been seeing Leigh and they are AMAZING. I have hard hair to cut (super thick, half wavy and half straight, different textures, multiple cowlicks, etc) and Leigh has pretty effortlessly tamed my mop with the short hair cut I’ve been trying to achieve for years. The whole salon is great. Super queer, super welcoming.

The most welcoming and inviting salon ever. Demi is literally the best. She does my hair JUST right every time I refuse to let any other stylist or salon touch my hair. Reasonable prices and a really nice environment.

Had a great time at Folklore in LA with Leigh! They gave me the exact gender-affirming cut I was looking for. They spent the extra time on the consultation to make sure we knew going in exactly what cut we were going for with my hair type and texture, so that I can style it how I like. Plus Leigh and Spike made sure I got all the info on products for my curly hair! The atmosphere is inviting and LGBTQ+ friendly, loved the vibes and will definitely be back.

Leigh is amazing!! They really take their time to make sure you get the cut you want. They pay attention to the details and nuances of the look you're going for, and are super kind. I highly recommend them!

Lizz is amazing! I was desperately in need of a hair cut and was chopping off a lot. I appreciated how she listened to me and made suggestions on what would work with my hair. I love how my hair turned out. The space is cute and clean and definitely felt very welcomed here. Definitely recommend!

A great safe space for LGBTQ people to feel comfortable getting haircuts. There aren’t any nasty hairdressers giving you side eyes for needing a haircut as many other salons will do. Jenna is our favorite and the best!

A neighbor told me about this salon. I went to Sophia. I had lost a lot of my hair after having my baby, My self esteem took a gut punch when my hair fell out in handfuls. I left a lot of factors up to Sophia because I wasn’t even really sure what I wanted other than, “to look better.” My hair looks beautiful now. I smile every time I see it in the mirror! I have a multi tone soft champagne baliage that doesn’t look like everything else you see. The whole team here seems really kind and thoughtful. It’s a really rare combination of feeling comfortable somewhere and getting a result that is amazing. I’ve never encountered a salon like Folklore and it’s a truly special place.

Felt super comfortable here! Shayne the barber is quick, efficient, and listens to client’s preferences. This location is a bit more busy than their Long Beach salon, but great for clients in the LA area. Book ahead and give yourself time to find parking.

I love Folklore. I like to have a short hairstyle and it's always been an issue at more traditional salons. At Folklore, I have no problem getting my hair cut the way I like. I love that it is a queer salon and the atmosphere is always so fun and comfortable. Plus, they have great pop up events with queer artists!

im so happy I went here!! jenna did a wonderful job with my curly hair, I've had so much trouble finding a place that feels welcoming to a gnc queer person like me and that can also work with curly hair, and folklore turned out to be amazing! the atmosphere is also super friendly and chill, I had such a wonderful first experience and I can't wait to go back. I hope I can catch the dogs again on my next appointment!
