This was my second visit to Fringe LES. My first experience was with a stylist named Hailey, but it wasn't a good fit. I decided to give the salon another chance and booked with Eleanor, who was available on the day I needed it. While Eleanor was very personable, the results were far from what I expected. I'm a brunette and went in for a haircut and a partial balayage. The haircut itself was great, but the balayage was a major letdown. I requested a balayage with subtle blonde tones, specifically showing pictures and emphasizing that I wanted to avoid both brassiness and an overly silver blonde. After several hours, the color was so dark it was barely noticeable. When I expressed my concern, Eleanor reassured me that the toner was a mix of warm and ash tones and would become more visible over time (see image). I want to highlight the the lightest part of my hair in the bottom is my previous highlights, no the balayage. Despite my previous balayage/highlight/ombre experience telling me otherwise, I appreciated her work on the haircut and blowout and wanted to remain positive, so I left a generous tip. Immediately after, my friends commented that it didn't even look like I'd had my hair colored. Trying to stay optimistic, I waited a few weeks to see if the "lightness" would develop. Unfortunately, it's now been several weeks, and my hair is extremely brassy with orange/red undertones. This is easily one of the worst hair color experiences I've had. For $400 plus tip, I expected much better results. If you are a brunette, I do not recommend this place. I won't be returning.

Joe gave me the best haircut ever! I had a vision and he delivered a dream. Best experience at a salon. Joe really went above and beyond to give me exactly what I wanted and more. Couldn’t be happier. 100/10.

Loved my experience here so much!! Before they start your haircut they sit down with you to figure out how you want your haircut, and to address any concerns you have with your hair currently. I had my hair done by Hailey, who was so nice and so amazing at cutting hair! This is the first time I’ve got a haircut I was genuinely excited about in a long time. The vibes were also just immaculate, everyone was nice and I loved the decor. 100% would recommend!!

Absolutely love Shane at Fringe! He's totally tamed my insane hair and gives the cutest shaggy, low maintenance cuts (which I need!) Blowouts are also amazing, but the thing I love about Shane's cuts is the ability to air dry my hair and be good to go. Personality also amazing, always feel so (probably too haha) comfy in the chair. highly recommend.

Sean is the best!! He cut my hair 1 1/2 years ago and it grew out beautifully, and I just visited today for a touch up and more layers and I'm so happy with it. Sean has a great eye for angles with the cut and totally delivered on what i asked for.

See Shane! I came in with only an idea of what I wanted, and Shane provided a thorough consultation for my cut and color that considered my undertones, lifestyle and cowlicks. He provided huge attention to detail while describing the process step-by-step - and I have to say, I’ve been running around in the summer humidity and rain, and my hair still looks so good!!! A million thanks to Shane!!!

Where has Hailey been all my life? She transformed my fine and thin hair from flat to full without using products. She has a skill in creating layers that accentuate my natural wavy hair while giving it movement and looking full at the ends. Highly recommend her!

Amy is the best! I heard Amy is so generous she gives free cuts to cancer patients and she gave my wife this awesome pixie cut before her hair begins to fall out from the chemotherapy🙏🏻 Moreover, evidently Amy was just talking last night about how she could serve Veterans! Joon is a decorated veteran who served two tours on the frontlines of Afghanistan and she is a Healthcare Frontline Provider! Amy thank you for sharing your skill and making my favorite Veteran feel special during in this most difficult vulnerable time. We are grateful for your compassion and community service❤️!

Ellie at Fringe Salon is actually the best ever. I am so in love with my color (and I’m very picky about my shade of blonde) and she absolutely nailed it. She is also extremely pleasant and easy to talk to, and extremely knowledgeable about what’s she’s doing. I will only be going to Fringe Salon from here on out!!

Had the best experience with Samantha ! She did a killer cut on me and helped me pick something that would work with my face and lifestyle! I’m obsessed with the haircut she has given me. I enjoyed our conversations and the thorough consultation she did to make sure we were on the same page. Her energy is contagious and makes me feel so comfortable and confident. I promise you will leave her chair feeling like a new person :)

I have been going to this Salon for 1.5 years now, and I have seen a few hairstylists. I will give it a 2 star (as opposed to 1) because some hairstylists do a good enough job for the price they charge. In the past 1.5 years I have always been on time to my appointments, and even once I had to wait for 15 minutes for a stylist (Jackie R) as she was late (which was understandable). Today I had an appointment with Sean, and I called in advance letting them know that I will be slightly late due to the rain and traffic. I heard the receptionist over the phone telling me I could be late up to 20 minutes (later I figured that she actually said 10, but I heard her wrong). She did not mention that I will be charged if I showed late to my appointment, nor is it mentioned any where on the website when you make an appointment, and no one communicated this with me in the past 1.5 years. I showed up 13 minutes late, and the hairstylist refused to see me, and they charged me 150 dollars. Of note, he has cut my hair two times in the past, and he did not spend more than 30 minutes on my hair. I am a psychiatrist, and we are way more flexible with our clients and their appointments especially if we know them.

I lived in Texas for the past 35 years. Came to NY to celebrate my mom's 85th birthday for what was supposed to be 5 days. Due to an unforeseen medical emergency (my mom's) I had a change of plans and have to be here (lower east side manhattan apartment) indefinitely.  I was in desperate need of a haircut, aesthetically, but also needed a mental and emotional pick me up. I came across Fringe by googling. There were 2 stylists available on the day I had some free time. I said let's try Joe C based on some reviews. This was the smartest decision I have personally made since I've been here (now 2 dang months)! I went to see Joe 2 times. First appointment was for a shaping, 2nd we went with a cut in a new style.  I have been to many many many of the best salons over the past 35 years (texas size dollars spent folks) in Houston and none can compare to the cut Joe has given me. It complements my features and quirks (taxi cab door ears here). Joe takes the time to listen to what type of hair style you are hoping to achieve, whether it's complimentary to your features and works with texture of your hair. Then he gives positive input for what type of cut is realistically possible. I highly recommend Joe C (@hairbyjoenyc). The salon and everyone that works there is positive, friendly and has really good vibes. A triple freakin plus!

Naiomi is absolutely amazing. She has such a beautiful aura. She’s such a great listener and extremely helpful. My hair was completely damaged from trying to dye my own hair during the pandemic and it’s because of her that it looks phenomenal and healthy. I also began my natural curly hair journey with her because she made me feel so comfortable and confident about it. I will follow her wherever she is and continue to recommend her to everyone I know. Naiomi is absolutely phenomenal! I recently had my first-ever curly haircut with her, and I can't express enough how impressed I am with the results. She did an outstanding job, not only giving me a fantastic haircut but also taking the time to show me how to style my curls and recommending the perfect products. Had a wonderful experience with Naiomi at Fringe! The space is small but cute. Most importantly, not only did I leave with a gorgeous head of hair and all the confidence in the world, Naiomi also answered all my hair care questions and really gave me a thorough hair consultation. She is a hair goddess and I would recommend her to everyone.

I love Joe C! He really listens and discusses options with you. I love how he gave me different ideas and options on how to style my hair. Joe too the time and showed me how to blow it dry to get the same results as if he did it. You will not be disappointed. He just makes you feel great.

TLDR RECAP - Wanted to love Fringe, but even with a Gilt hookup this was not a great value or experience for me. 1️⃣ HURRY UP….THEN WAIT I was rushing from my previous commitment (and Google reviews warn that their late fees are NO JOKE⚠️) so I cabbed it. $17 later, I was only 3 mins overdue 👎 Then I waited ~15mins to be seen 💡SUGGESTION: If you’re going to have a strict on-time policy, kindly give a courtesy call when stylists are running late 2️⃣ SHAMPOO: not thorough; do not even dream of a scalp massage. NO FRILLS 3️⃣ DEEP CONDITIONING: In-sink comb out lasted only FIVE MINUTES. And NO heat!? 👀 (When I expressed my disappointment, the gal offered an apathetic “sorry” 🤷‍♀️) 💡SUGGESTION: A hot towel would make this treatment more effective (and more enjoyable) 4️⃣ HAIRCUT: Opted for a simple end trim - was not feeling adventurous by then. Simple blowout Still tipped ~18% on RETAIL (not Gilt price), but unfortunately would not return or recommend

To my curly kings and queens, when I tell you my curls have never looked better! And it’s all thanks to Samantha! My friend and I went for a cut and gloss and she was super knowledgable as she is a curly queen herself. She totally understood and listened to what I was looking for as well as recommended options for the best cut. I left feeling light, the shine on my hair was great and of course the curls giving! Even my friend who has textured hair, her curl definition was *chef’s 😘* Not only is Samantha a God sent, the staff was super friendly, accommodating and honestly was a great experience all around! I will most definitely be returning!
