As a beauty professional myself I try to do my best to handle things behind the scene. Unfortunately, today I am leaving this review because after contacting this MUA on IG regarding my daughter makeup appointment, I was blocked for no reason after what I thought was a very cordial conversation. My daughter in preparation for prom was not completely satisfied with her finished makeup. (Brows too heavy uneven and thick/foundation too thick-cakey/color on lids not nude browns as requested) My daughter was uncomfortable saying this during the appointment wanting to avoid conflict. I corrected her and educated her about the importance of speaking up for herself if she is not satisfied with a service for future reference. I reached out to the MUA and politely asked what happened with the makeup colors so I could get a full understanding from both sides since 125 dollars was spent and a reference photo was given specifically for the colors. We exchanged very brief messages and when I went to look back to ask an additional question (if she had any photos of the finished work with lighting since my daughter had already began washing her foundation by the time I got home) only to realize I was blocked. It’s very strange to be blocked for no reason especially if it was a polite exchange so it raises an eyebrow as if the MUA knew the work was subpar. I do know that my daughter asked for natural glam- nude colors and she came home with incredibly heavy foundation and colors on her eyes. A photo was given for reference and the MUA did not come close to the look as far as color scheme. As a makeup artist, it is important to modify your client accordingly. Every client doesn’t require full coverage foundation. My daughter learned her lesson about speaking up but I’m sure she was intimidated and didn’t want to cause confrontation because a lot of times people don’t know how to take someone not liking their work professionally. I wouldn’t have assumed that about this artist until I saw I was blocked. That energy is very telling. If she hastily blocked me for asking a few questions I can’t imagine how she would have reacted to my daughter showing her dismay after service. I’m Sure her work has been satisfactory with many other clients but today was an unfortunate miss. Additionally, had customer service been up to par, I would have gladly built an industry connection with her since I have multiple connections with A-list clientele from my own Esthetics background. Digressing to say. Customer service goes a long way and there was no need to block me based on the conversation we had. No one in the industry is perfect and mistakes or miscommunication happens. Take it in stride and use it to grow yourself and your business. Blocking clients when they aren’t irate and have questions and concerns is bad business.
