Habitat has very quickly and easily become my favorite hair salon in San Francisco. I trust Mari completely with my hair, from bleaching to cut/styling, she is the best! I feel very safe with her and love the community beyond just a hair salon her and her wife have created here in San Francisco.

I had my first haircut at Habitat Hair Salon with Audrey and it was an amazing experience from start to finish! Audrey was genuine, kind and communicative throughout the process. I showed her pictures of the cut I was looking for and she asked me questions to help me narrow down the style I wanted. I came in with long hair and decided to chop it off to a long bob while adding side bangs. I enjoyed the shampoo and scalp massage and appreciated her attention to detail while cutting my hair. She made sure to let me know what to expect next and informed me of any products she was using and the purpose. I am so happy with my haircut and there wasn't a moment I felt nervous of how the cut would turn out. It not only matched the pictures, but it was also fitted to my face shape and me! Every moment was seamless and thoughtful and Audrey's skill and mastery showed every step of the way. I definitely recommend Audrey and Habitat Salon!

I religiously schedule my appointment with Audrey, every month. it's not just for the excellent hairstylist she is but it's the Audrey experience, as I like to call it, that keeps me coming back for more. It's better than therapy, that I can say for sure. You'll just have to come and expiecence it for yourself I guess.

I have been coming to Mari for cut and color for almost a decade! She's an amazing human and I can just sit in her chair and she knows exactly what I want and what actually works on my skintone and hair type. Her and Chauntae are the absolute best and have become close friends of mine. And they don't stop at hair, they do great things to improve the surrounding community as well! Be sure to visit the Birdcage for amazing matchas in beautiful glassware.

This was my first time coming to Habitat. Audrey what’s my hairstylist. She was amazing. She would explain her process to make sure I understood what and why she was doing certain things. We had a fun time talking about art and scary movies. What I appreciate the most is how Audrey reached out to me about my after care for my hair and what product I can use to preserve my vivid color and keep my hair healthy. Thank you Audrey! I had my hair cut here by Mari a couple of weeks ago and it was such a great experience! She was really friendly and easy to talk to, and I felt like she was really listening when I described what I wanted and didn't want in my cut. She asked good questions and offered helpful styling tips. I hadn't had my hair cut for a while and she didn't make me feel weird about it, which is an attitude I have encountered elsewhere. I am thrilled that this salon is located in my neighborhood and will definitely be back for my next cut, which I am already thinking about. Highly recommend this place :)

I was in San Francisco for a week because I had top surgery. For the first week post-operation, I wasn't allowed to shower. Between the pain, the tiredness, and feeling sick, I was pretty miserable. Which made it all the more frustrating when I just wanted more than anything to take a shower and feel clean. I could sponge bathe, but there wasn't anything I could do about my hair. My mother suggested having my hair washed at a salon, but I was afraid to because it would be quite obvious I had top surgery. I live in the South and am used to being discriminated against as a queer person, so I kept worrying about how to explain the top surgery without outing myself. My fears were completely unwarranted, though. I walked into Habitat not knowing anything about it or what to expect and was greeted with smiles and welcomes. Then I learned that it's an queer run business! I didn't need to come up with lies and cover stories for why I needed just a hair washing or why we might have to get creative to find a way to have my hair washed that didn't hurt my incision. I could be honest and unafraid. It made everything so much easier and less stressful. My memory is poor, so I cannot remember the name of the person who washed my hair, but if you're reading this: thank you. Thank you so much. You took the time to be thorough and attentive when you didn't have to. Going above and beyond for a simple hair washing, which you didn't even charge me for, because I was in pain and frustrated and you wanted to help. It might seem like what you did for me wasn't a big deal, but I will never forget the kindness you showed me that day. Especially when I'm so used to living down South where acts of kindness like that are rarely afforded to queer folks. You didn't have to go out of your way to help me like that, but you did. Thank you.

Aubrey has been cutting and coloring my hair for over a decade. I've followed her from salon to salon over the years. She's an absolute color goddess! Over the years I've had long hair, chin length hair and everything in between and she always gives me the best haircuts and great advice on what styles will work for my hair type. Love getting in the chair with Aubrey - she’s been cutting my hair for ahhhh maybe over 15 years 🤗!!. We’ve done different colors and many different cuts. She’s been there for all my hair things and friend things too! Really enjoyed getting to see her in the Habitat element - the vibe and energy is just right. Looking forward to my next visit ❤️

Aubrey worked her magic! I was in need of a hair makeover and confidence boost. Aubrey took the time to discuss color and cut ideas that were flattering, worked with my hair texture and lifestyle. I have been a client of Aubrey's at every salon she's been at over the years, and I am so happy to see her join this team. I think this will be such a great fit for Aubrey's skills and personality; she's friendly and positive without being disingenuous, is super thoughtful and attentive, great with communication, and somehow always seems to know exactly what I've been envisioning. I have spent my entire life getting historically bad haircuts and overall crippling anxiety when I’m sitting in the chair. I had the luck of walking into the habitat off recommendation from close and trusted friends. Melissa was the stylist to work on my mop, and let me tell you the life changing experience she provided. I was able to show pictures of the style of hair I wanted and she walked me through what terms to use and how they go about cutting it with different styles. She made me feel cared for and safe while cutting my hair. I’ve never had a good enough experience to stick with a stylist by Mel at the Habitat Salon, you made a customer for life! Love this place. I was recommended by a friend after being disappointed with my haircuts around the city. Ash was so sweet and really took the time to make sure I liked everything before finishing. Miss Mel is a hairstyling genius! I have curly hair and she’s the only person I trust with it. I don’t give her reference photos or anything she just knows what to do. I went in to trim the split ends and left looking like Rachel Weisz in The Mummy (1999). Vibes in the salon are also immaculate in general

Such a great salon. Mel took care of me and she did such a great job with my thick curly long hair that had been neglected for a good while. I feel like a new person 10/10
