I recently decided to switch things up and try Insta Locs instead of my usual faux locs, and I couldn't be happier with the results! My new Insta Locs look incredibly real, so much so that I’m constantly tempted to lie about the years it supposedly took to grow them. Honestly, who wouldn’t, when they look this damn good? If you're thinking about getting Insta Locs, do yourself a favor and ASK FOR KATHY at HairBySusy in Brooklyn. My experience with her was absolutely top tier. Not only is she a master of her craft, but her personality is amazing. Kathy has a knack for making you feel comfortable and at ease, and her sense of humor is contagious. Be prepared to laugh until your stomach hurts! I'm already looking forward to getting these retouched. The whole experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend Kathy and the team at HairBySusy for anyone looking to transform their look with Insta Locs.

It is a treat to be able to get my hair done at Hair By Susy. Theliah is a lovely human being who took the utmost care and patience of me and with my hair. While multi-managing tasks in the shop and braiding my hair, she completed the adventure in enough time for me to show off my new braids at an event/dinner party. As far as the braids go, they are perfect. The right size, the natural parts seamless, and the human hair flawless. I have nothing but great things to say about this salon!! I booked two services with them - first I went to Theliah for a wash, blowout and trim and she was fantastic. I also booked knotless braids. The day before my braids appointment, the salon informed me that my stylist’s flight was changed and she wouldn’t be able to do my hair. I had very limited flexibility to change the appointment day since I was leaving town. They were extremely professional and immediately offered a solution -Susy, the fabulous owner of the salon offered to come in super early on a Sunday morning to do my braids. She is warm, wonderful and has magical fingers - I love my braids!!! Thank you!!!

HairbySusy is by far the best Hair Salon I've ever been to in my entire life. The fastest service, friendly staff, and helpful management. The first time I went Susy was able to do Bantu knots on my hair in 30 mins. She was so fast, I was shocked. I received compliments the entire time my hair was done. The next time I went there was a mistake with scheduling. The receptionist decided to do my hair since all stylists were unavailable. Unfortunately, I did not got the hairstyle I wanted. I called Susy, and the very next day she had her protege Selena fix my hair. It looked absolutely incredible. I would give this business 500 stars if I could. They are quick, efficient, and you will leave looking gorgeous. Selena and Susy are both amazing spirits. I highly recommend this salon. If my schedule wasn't so full, I'd be in the salon every week trying all the best new styles.

I’ve been using their edge control for the last year or so no issue then suddenly it developed these weird patterns in the product almost like mold. I reached out via their IG and was told to throw it away and they’d send me new product. I provide my address, am told it’ll be shipped in a few days, and am pleasantly surprised they’re so responsive and nice. Fast forward a month plus, multiple follow ups, and I can’t get anyone to communicate with me abt whether I’ll be getting this product or not. It’s so strange for a business to promise something like this then just ghost? I would’ve picked up the product myself and even paid for a replacement by now had they not promised me otherwise and kept me expecting something else. Now I’m probably just going to avoid the company altogether for wasting my time and making weird empty promises.

Selena did my hair and was sweet and thoughtful. She takes immense pride in her work. She doesn’t just do the style you show her in a picture but she also tailors it to your face and she takes into account the integrity of your hair. Selena was a pleasure to work with.

Unexpectedly unprofessional--on the day of my appointment, I was told my stylist felt under the weather but didn't receive a suggestion to reschedule. If this wasn't enough of an illness to cancel or reschedule, of course I still wanted to show up and have my hair done as soon as possible. It was odd to be asked what color hair I wanted since that was a part of their appointment form online. I would think if they're asking for this data at booking, they would have been more prepared or should have asked if I wanted to bring my own hair days before the appointment. I arrived outside of the locked building, already 30 minutes outside of my scheduled time, just to be told my stylist is going to pick up the hair. Another 30 minutes later and it just felt like some weird setup to get me to cancel my appointment. There weren't any updates on progress of buying the hair, how far they were from the salon, etc. I was expecting more professionalism since hearing about the high-profile clients they've had in the past, but if they can't even treat a regular customer properly then why are they even in business?

Although I liked the way my hair came out and the women were all very nice, I overall did not have a good experience. They never pick up the phone or answer your emails. I bought $55 worth of hair from their website to be used during my appointment that was never used and have been trying to contact them to get a refund. Additionally, my appointment was scheduled at 1pm and I was not seated in the chair till 3:30. I do not think I will return to this place because it is quite expensive, there is a long wait, even with an appointment and they are horrible at communicating with their customers.

Great experience! If you don't know what color or style to get, Susy is amazing at coming up with creative solutions! Kathy was so quick, neat, with my medium knotless braids. The best part is literally NO PAIN. Can't recommend them enough! :)

Hairstyle: Small Knotless Braids + Boho + Mid Back Stylist: Hadja Duration: Started 11:00am - Ended 5:45pm My first form of communication with this hair salon was via email and they were responsive and informative. Once I arrived the front desk and stylist were all so kind and courteous, offered water & a place to put my bag. From there Hadja did what needed to be DONE. I had a specific style in mind and requested for it to be identical. I have never encountered a stylist with such attention to detail, her parts were consistent through my head, the braids all came out sleek and not bulky. She is a truly talented braided, she is a perfectionist about the look she wants to accomplish & does it flawlessly. Bonus points: Hadja was also friendly & hilarious. I had BANTU KNOTS! *HEART SHAPES AT THAT* I came with the Inspo and idea My name is Mahalia Clair and I was the HAIR MODEL for HAIRBYSUSY and my lovely stylist was JADA! *YOU DID THAT BOO* she def handled me with care and excuted the style as I imagined it. Susy popped in and out, but once she slapped the idea of the braids being ombre or just pink, so I was hype to test it out and let her work with the ombre style on my two braids. I brought some beads for a little razzle dazzle, and i loved the staff, salon, and treatment. Would recommend!

I really hate to negatively review businesses, especially small ones. I’m making this review as a word of caution to people interested in coming here so they can have realistic expectations. I initially came to the salon on a Saturday morning, took my stylist about 30 minutes to start me, which is not abnormal in a hair salon. The stylist I had, was nice but didn’t seem as if she wanted to be there. When she asked me what style I was getting and I told her small, extra long knotless braids, she rolled her eyes and audibly groaned. She told me it takes a long time. This is when I thought, but didn’t say “I’m aware of that, but for $550 sticker price it’s not like it would be a hardship for her”. The whole process took about 10 hours, there were moments when I was just left in the chair waiting. One of the reasons I came here is because I was told 2 Braiders would braid my hair concurrently. The owner Susy was nice as well, she came over and apologized for the process taking so long. They had a high profile client, so they were prioritizing finishing this persons hair at the time as they were short staffed. I only had a second braider for the last hour and a half of my style and I’m thankful because I probably would have left 12 hours total. Fast forward to Monday afternoon, I was finally able to inspect my style and I found that my braid parts in the back were very large, more of a medium size than small. I took a photo and sent it to Susy, the owner and she immediately apologized. I believe small is 100-200 more than medium. She offered to have another stylist redo my hair or a refund. She also told me she felt as if my stylist was rushing to get it over with. I wanted the style I paid for, so we both agreed to have another appointment that following Wednesday at 10 am. I let know her that I’m rearranging my schedule just to get this fixed. To tell you about the quality, on Tuesday 2 braids slipped out. Fast forwarding again, Wednesday morning I received an email that my appointment was rescheduled to 1030. I texted Susy to confirm, she said she had to pick her mother up from the airport which I completely understood. I show up to the salon, only 2 stylists were there. One was already working with a client, and the other one told me she would take my hair out. Well, she was very busy doing business calls, she only managed to take about 3 braids out so I just finished taking them out myself, which I also didn’t mind. I’m a working professional with a pretty tight schedule. I value my time and that of others. This is where things went down hill completely. After the back braids were already out (1130 am) I was told someone would be coming soon to braid my hair, if not when the other stylist was done with the other client she would do my braids. To shorten this already long story, I arrived at 1040 am and nobody began to braid my hair until 210 pm. To say I was upset is an understatement. I couldn’t even leave, because 1/3 of my hair was already out, and I had paid a total on Saturday of $650 (550 for style, 100 tip). The stylist that was doing my hair on Wednesday even tried to tell me that the part size was correct, even though the owner had already told me the product was not what I paid for. The second stylist that did the did the braid down was very kind and listened to how I wanted my hair, which I appreciated. Bottom line, I will not be coming back to this place. Come if you can spend the whole day waiting to be serviced and don’t mind wasting 2 days, if the stylist that does your hair initially isn’t skilled. I didn’t feel like my time nor money was respected. As an update, a week after my hair was braided it’s already frizzing. Not the best quality work either. I’m including pictures of before my hair was redone.

I've gone to Hair By Susy many many times over the last few years to get everything from haircuts to faux locs to hair dyes and the customer experience and service has been consistently amazing. I feel like my hair is taken care of when I get my hair done by Susy. Can't wait to get my brows and beard dyed by her soon!!

THE go-to place for braids in New York. I went to see Theola on December 30th for human hair knotless box braids and I could not be happier. I’m a very tender-headed person so any pulling on my scalp really hurts me but I didn’t feel a thing during my installation; I actually fell asleep in the chair! I’ve never gotten more compliments on a hairstyle. I recently went back for a refresh and the whole team pitched in, including Susy herself! It took them under 2 hours to refresh my 26-28 inch braids and they look brand new almost 8 weeks later. I could not recommend this place more. It’s totally worth the money. I will be going back for my summer style!!!

The First time i got knotless braids here...they were nice n very neat and love them soo i returned again. Second time, i knotless braids...braids were sloppy n not done neatly at all by two braiders! Upon closer inspection, it was different sizes n parts were irregular. They were mixture of regular braids n knotless. For around 400$, expected more flawless execution like my first appointment. Staff was friendly during service though.. Susy was nice as well..doubt id return again.

This was my first time going here and I'm glad I did. There was a bit of a delay in me waiting to get my hair done but that's because they had trouble with staffing, which was something a bit out of their control. The style I got was Bob Ivy Locs. The shop is located on the second floor of the building it's in and is super spacious. All the employees were friendly and welcoming and even bought us something from the store. I paid just over $300 for this style. Do I think it's a bit much, yes. But I do love how it came out and I've been getting so many compliments on it as well.

I love the vibe here and my hair is always LAID
