Not gonna lie, I arrived to Hair City thinking they were just going to treat me like a regular customer that comes and goes. That was far from the case, the hair stylist went past my expectations and did a wonderful job washing, conditioning and braiding my hair. The experience was definitely worth it and I encourage people to see what I'm talking about.

I arrived for my appointment was not welcomed at all, the hairstylist I think who was supposed to do my hair Fatuomata I guess that was her since no introductions were made took one look at my hair and said it was too short for services I requested without even touching my hair. I insisted I’ve had the service I requested before and showed her picture and she still insisted my hair was too short but she would wash and blow dry and then could tell from there. She proceeded to work on an existing head and start another persons head, my appointment was at 10:00, I left at 10:30 and decided I wasn’t even gonna bother with this place and went home and did my own silk press on my short hair that turned out beautiful and saved myself 85 dollars of receiving poor service. After I left she text me saying was I coming and I told her I was just gonna go home and do myself and she said next time book when I have some length, I told her there ain’t gonna be a next time. This is was the most horrible humiliating experience I have ever had.

To start I’ve noticed for every poor review “you” mention that you don’t see the name in your scheduling book and that maybe they’ve mixed up which salon they’re reviewing. I believe this issue is due to no scheduling book as I had to wait over 90 minutes before my hair appointment last week - I was sat at the dryer after my wash to distract me as if I wouldn’t see that someone else was still being braided. Not only was my time disrespected but I asked for a specific color multiple times to see if it was available so the hair could be prepared and I was rudely sent in their dirty and chaotic hair storage room to find the color myself while being yelled at that a color I was unsure about was it. Treating me as if my $180 was nothing - speaking of the last two times I visited I was charge an additional $20 when leaving for various last minute charges. I now know this bait and switch with prices is her business model. There is always something being included and then not so be warned to take an additional $20-$40. My braider made my hair so tight I was in pain for 4 days and I’ve had my hair done for years and I’m not tender headed - she refused to speak with me and at the end dumped my hair in hot water and let it splash on my back before using the foam aggressively fast only to then grab her purse and book it out of the salon - clearly she was in a rush. I’ve never dealt with more unprofessional disrespect - be warned that Hair City is Scam City. The cleanliness of the shop has declined and so has their customer service. I won’t be returning. Lastly I received a harassing call from the salon after posting this review.

Do not use them....they do not respect requests....you can ask them to do your hair a certain way and they will NOT ....they will do it THEIR WAY....but then when you are upset with your hair because they do not honor requests, they expect you to pay..... then when you suggest anything other than what THEY want you to have on YOUR head, they start snickering amongst each other and speaking a different language and they act obviously annoyed with you because YOU THE CUSTOMER just simply wants to leave happy about your hair......they are more concerned about money than satisfied customers..... they put TOO MUCH junk in your hair....gel, mouse and all of that mess is on your SCALP when you leave.....if you scratch your head when you leave, you will have junk under your nails....no one wants to arrive with a clean scalp and leave without being able to scratch their head and have junk under their nails..... So if you want to have a dirty scalp and people who will NOT listen to you when it comes to what YOU LIKE for your hair to look like when you leave, then DO NOT try this shop.

Great first experience! Very accommodating as availability came open before my appointment I was given the opportunity to schedule a day early. I was in and out in 3hrs with medium knotless braids.

I came in to get my hair braided for my baby shower less than a month ago (May 19th.) The woman that did my hair rushed in the back.. literally! she finished the back in 20 minutes. she took big pieces of hair and braided loose. This made me ask and double check to make sure she’s gonna make my braids full for that $180. she then went smaller and added a bunch of braids to the middle and front. She began pinching very hard as she got to the top. Long story short, it’s been less than a month and all my braids in the back are hanging and loose. I have extra hair hanging out all because she wanted to rush!!! NOT WORTH $180. I don’t remember getting treated like this when I got my hair braided by africans as a teen. Never going back.

I took my daughter to Hair city to get box braids and it was one of the best decisions I made! Everyone was super nice and so helpful! We loved the box braids! This will be our new salon! Would highly recommend their salon to anyone! 10 out of 10!

I waited an hour before anyone started on my hair. The braider was tired and in a hurry. I did not get the style I asked for. I sent pictures ahead of time and showed the same picture before and during the appointment. All they care about is getting your money. I will never go back. Be aware!

Love, love, love my daughter’s hair! Emo did an amazing job. Very neat work and quick. My daughter loves her hair too. She said it looks just as tight as when I braid her hair, “but it didn’t hurt,” lol. We will definitely be back. Fatou has a comfortable & nice shop… great job.

Pretty satisfied with my hair service, but I did not like how my hair was handled when she was combing it out I felt that she was too rough. Also I was told that my hair would cost $30 but when my hair was finished she charged me $50 for two braids and I didn’t add any hair. She also told me that if i wanted to add hair it would be 50, I did not add any hair all I got was a wash and two braids on my real hair.

I will not go to anyone in the city except for Hair City Salon. I have been a client of Fatou's for years and she is always punctual, warm, inviting, and engaging and best of all she does AMAZING work!!
