ZERO if possible. My family had a terrible experience at the Hair Cuttery on New Design Road in Frederick, MD. On February 1, 2025, around 5:45–6:00 PM, my son got a haircut that left multiple cuts all over his neck—with broken skin. This is completely unacceptable. When I called to address the issue, the staff was extremely unprofessional—dismissing my concerns, non apologetic, and even hanging up on me. To make things worse, they refused to offer a refund despite the injury caused. This location clearly lacks proper training and customer service. I would not trust them with another haircut, especially for children. I urge management to take action before another child gets hurt. Avoid this place at all costs!

On July 25, 3023 I visited the Hair Cuttery near my home and was greeted by a woman named Amber, who introduced herself as the Assistant Manager and a “Master Stylist.” I placed my trust in her expertise, particularly as I was heavily sedated due to a recent adjustment in my mental health medications. This made the process even more relaxing, and I dozed off during the appointment. Before falling asleep, Amber and I discussed that I wanted a full head of highlights using foils, followed by a caramel toner to soften the blonde and complement my olive complexion. However, the results did not align with what we had agreed upon. Additionally, I was charged for a deep conditioning treatment, though I do not recall being asked about it. While I hope the treatment was performed, I was surprised it was not included in the overall service price, especially given the significant amount I spent. To my dismay, when I washed my hair a few days later, I noticed significant damage. There was extreme breakage, particularly on the sides near my ears and underneath above my neck, where the hair appeared overprocessed to an unnatural platinum blonde. I suspect this occurred because Amber may have left the bleach in too long while tending to other customers, resulting in severe overprocessing. The cost of this appointment totaled $229, including tip, which is far more than I have ever paid at Hair Cuttery—or even upscale salons in downtown DC. For reference, a 5-star salon later estimated the cost to correct the color damage in a three-hour appointment would only be $160. When I contacted Amber to discuss my concerns, I attempted to reach a compromise by proposing to pay 50% of the original service cost, acknowledging the time and product used. However, Amber adamantly refused to cooperate or offer any form of resolution, despite my dissatisfaction. While I understand the customer is not always right, good customer service places the client first. Amber’s lack of professionalism and unwillingness to address the situation demonstrates poor management training and raises questions about her qualifications as a “Master Stylist.” Unfortunately, I am left deeply dissatisfied with both the service and the response I received. I will be escalating this matter to her regional manager and, if necessary, the corporate office. Until then, I strongly advise against visiting this location. If I could rate this experience zero stars, I would.

The worst service, from the beginning with a very bad attitude because my hair was long, then in the shampoo super aggressive with my hair leaving shampoo residues in my ears, and not to mention when she was untangling the hair, super aggressive, in the end I told her to leave it like that because my head already hurt from so many pulls, she removed a lot of hair and it was super uneven. the truth is that it is the worst experience.

I booked a hair cut w/ shampoo and blow-dry for about $45 online, then showed up for my appointment and $20-25 was added because my hair is long. The stylist actually came over and spot-measured my hair at halfway down my back to add the charge. I confirmed that even for just a 1-2" trim they'd still be adding that cost- she said it's standard now that they price by length. I guess I'd get it if I was doing a major chop, but 1" from the middle of my back vs. 1" from the top of my back is the same amount of hair and time. A $75 trim (plus tip) for a 40 minute appointment is a bit much, so I cancelled. They people were nice, but this seems like a money grab. I've gotten okay haircuts here before, and this new "by length" pricing is a bit weird. The haircuts themselves have been hit or miss. One good, another uneven. I'm more than happy to pay fairly for services, but I need the transparency up front. Just be aware of this new pricing if you stop in, so you're not caught off-guard.

Liz did an excellent blowout. My hair feels clean and in good condition. She styled it beautifully, I know it will last for a couple of days.

Harley is a great and attentive stylist that cares about your style wants/needs. She'll work with you if you want to achieve a certain look, and she's a good conversationalist to boot.

I would give zero if I could. I showed up at 940AM to locked doors. When the girl opened the door I was told I could not get a cut until 3pm. What a hot sack of garbage this establishment is. AVOID!!!!!

the lady was nice but she burned my scalp! She let the dye stay on my hair for so long that by the end of the session, I felt like my scalp is on fire! Plus they charged me $248 plus tip! The online price was $142.

I made an appointment at 5:30 pm at this salon and I arrived at 5:40, they didn't have any guests and they decided from looking at my hair that is a long hair and they didn't want to style me because they close at 7... regardless I had a good first time som months ago, I won't go there again.

I HAD THE BEST TIME EVERRR!!!! I feel pretty for the first time in my life, really truly pretty. The woman who did my hair I wish I could rmemeber her name was unbeleivably sweet and kind, I wish I wasn't struggling right now money wise or I would have left her a massive tip. She did everything I wanted and checked in with me the whole way. I feel so incredibly pretty that I started tearing up as I was driving away. I would come back 1 million percent

I highly recommend Janet, she is so sweet and personable and takes the time to ensure exactly what you want. And she’s so patient and helpful, especially because I’m so indecisive sometimes . I love bringing my nieces and nephews to her she’s so good with kids and they love coming there !

Worst hair location ever, either take you late when you have an appointment or cancel with little to no notice. Had an appointment, canceled it on me because she was going home sick. Had it rescheduled and they canceled it the exact time the appointment was at.

Scheduled a 5:45pm appointment at 9am in the morning. I get a text at 4pm saying my stylist went home sick and to call in to reschedule. No attempt to call me to reschedule or anything. VERY rude to TEXT someone less than 2 hours from their appointment, just canceling it. Steer clear of this location, as they don't value your time or make an effort to reschedule you if things come up!!! What a joke!

Unfortunately I had to give 1 star.Just had the worst cut ever by the receptionist.made a complete mess,and then tried to tell me what I'm seeing was not true ,full of excuses.my younger day I would have walked without paying.What a mess Now it's gotta get fixed.complete joke.
