I have been going to Jessica for over a year at Kemps River and absolutely love her. Jessica takes the time to make sure she understands what color and cut you want. Jessica is so good with color/highlights and is truly a Gem of a stylist!

Adrionna is an excellent stylist and so nice as she works with my hair. I love her as my stylist. I enjoy going to the Hair Cuttery at Kemp's River Shopping Center. Everyone is so professional and nice.

Had an appointment today at 9am, no one was in the store, doors still locked. I left because this will be the second bad experience I've had with this location. The first experience my stylist was 15 minutes late from my appointment time and didn't do what I asked with my hair. Also unfriendly and almost annoyed I was there! I figured I would be more specific with the stylist I would have had today but the location wasn't open during their business hours. It's so unfortunate because this locattion is near my new address. I will have to drive back out to the Redmill hair cuttery location because the staff is friendly and respects your time. Who ever is managing the Fordham location needs someone to explain how a business works, respecting peoples time and descent customer service. Beyond disappointment.

Horrible customer service. Go somewhere else if you’re thinking about getting a cut here. I walk in for my 5pm appt, on the dot. I was greeted by a nice younger lady who was busy doing a cut for someone. Told her who i was and what time my appt was for, she seemed confused likely because she may not handle the appointments, not sure, but this older heavy set lady with grey hair annoyingly told me “have a seat ill be right with you” and proceeded to just organize inventory in the shelf up front for the following 5 minutes until I walked out. Clearly, making sure the bottles were facing the right way was more important than taking care of a customer. If this was my employee, I would think twice about who I let represent my store. Seeing other reviews, that isn’t being done.

My daughter went to get a bob haircut and they literally butchered her hair. $60 down the drain. Went to the manager to complain and was told it looked fine👀

If you’re black you may not want to come here. I stood outside for about 6 minutes while a stylist by the name Crystal looked right at me and when she finally opened the door because it was locked at 9:16am she said can I help you. I said are you guys open and she said yes but I’m the only stylist here right now everyone else comes in later so you can go online and make an appointment. She never said if you want to wait I can help you or anything. All I wanted was my ends to clipped. I will never come here again. Hair Cuttery may not be for all people.

I came into the Kempsville area location for a scheduled shampoo and wash of my shoulder length hair. Jessica is very nice, pleasant, and really sweet, but the hair washing was terrible. I did not realize until after I left that she did not wash the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair. It is dull, heavy, and sticky when I run my fingers through it. It is not the clean, light, fluffy, and full look that I asked for. It actually feels weighed down. It was clean and shiny when went in there and now I'm left with dirty, gunky hair. If she put some sort of treatment on it, I did not sign up for it, nor did I need it, and I was not made aware of it either. I have had plenty of other shampoos and blowouts other places, but have never been left with hair like this. Now, an hour later afterwards my scalp is starting to itch due to the shampoo and conditioner not being properly rinsed out. I am going to have to rewash it to get it clean and stop the itching! One star for Jessica's nice style and she is really sweet, but this was such a let down. What a waste of time, waste of money, and a huge disappointment!

I made an appointment for a basic haircut at this location. Upon the start of the appointment, the stylist was rude and unwelcoming. I sat in her chair, she provided me nowhere to put my purse or water cup. She parted my hair and said “hmph, what’s going on with your scalp?” loudly enough that other patrons could hear in the business. I told her I have dandruff and some potential burning on my scalp from the sun, but do not know of any scalp issues. She proceeded to tell me she cannot cut my hair. I have NEVER been turned away from a hair service. I do not have head lice or any other contagious condition. It appeared as though she was not in the mood to cut my hair and was looking for an excuse. I left feeling embarrassed since she talked about my scalp loudly, but mostly disappointed since I was expecting a haircut today. I will NEVER be returning to a Hair Cuttery again and instead taking my services elsewhere.

I typically don't leave reviews, but after going here two times and having nothing but problems, I felt it was necessary to let others know. 6 months ago I came in asking for a trim. My stylist was a young girl who's station was closest to the back near the wall. I asked for the dead ends to be trimmed, face framed in, and my layers to remain. Upon looking at it in the mirror I made it clear it looked crooked. She explained it was due to my hair being wet...Once I got home and dried my hair I could see how bad it truly was. One side was longer than the other and my face frame was all over the place. I immediately went back to the salon. When I arrived the woman on the left who sits closest to the door offered to fix it. When she was finished, I was please. She told me the next time i was to get my hair cut there, to tell the stylist to wash and blow dry my hair before cutting. As I have thick wavy hair. Fast forward to Tuesday 4/9. When I arrived the women who sits closest to the register greated me. I seen the young girl who had cut my hair the previous time and asked the woman if I could have someone else. She seemed aggervated with my request and hesitantly said she would do it. She asked for my number and name. I told her it was suggested by the last stylist to have it washed and blow dried before cutting. The woman brought me to the washing station where I tried to strike up a conversation but she seemed aggervated by the request I made. Upon applying conditioner I could tell it wasn't completely washed out. When I sat up my hair was sopping wet. Dripping all over the chair and myself. When I got into her chair she didn't dry it. At all! It was dripping so much water my pants and shoes became soggy. She proceeded to cut my hair as it was dripping wet. She stated it didn't need to be dried and began cutting in random places. She then parted my hair to the side claiming he was trimming the face frame. I told her i don't part my hair there and she completely ignored me. Once she was finished I could tell one side was longer than the other and my face frame was so uneven and chopped it looked awful. My hair was still sopping wet as I put it up. So wet my shirt itself became soaked. Later that evening I took a shower only to discover I had so much left over conditioner in my hair my scalp became irritated. After this experience I will never recommend this company or location again. My hair was down to my waist and it is now at my shoulders. Devastated is an understatement.

I’ve been coming here for almost a year now (I think), and this is the first time I’ve been genuinely disappointed. Laveria didn’t try to have any conversation with me, ask how I normally do my hair (until the end), and didn’t listen to what I even wanted done with my hair. I told her “I want a 2 or even maybe a 1.5 on the sides, and about half off the top. I don’t want it too short because I used to wear it like that and it doesn’t look good.” You’d think that at least for the sides she’d start with a 2, right? Nope! She proceeds to basically buzz cut me with what I believe to be a 1 on the sides, and took over 3/4 off the top. I’m actually pretty upset with this haircut, and I’m truly disappointed with this experience overall. $28 for something I could’ve gotten an inexperienced friend to do. I’d say it’ll be awhile before I give yall another go, but after today it’s gonna be awhile even if I wanted to try somewhere new.

I had a relatively new stylist, she was very light handed and almost seemed scared to touch my hair. I kept asking her to cut and blend the sides, but she didn’t seem to understand me. She also did my brows and now I am missing half of my left brow. The end result was less than what I had come to expect from Hair Cuttery. I ended up recutting my hair when I got home to my preferences. Hopefully with time my brow will regrow. Don’t think I’ll be back.

After receiving the haircut, and a touchup on the eyebrows, I had to immediately go somewhere else to have it fixed. I was charged $40 cash and I tipped $10 off.

Today I took my 3 year old son for his first haircut outside of the home. He was very excited to see the process. We arrived at our appointment time and the door was locked. We waited and a lady came to the door, unlocked it (did not open for us)- said nothing to us and turned and walked to the desk. Without smiling or actually interacting she asked us if we had an appointment. I said we did and she stared at my son and asked how he "usually has his hair cut" I told her and her response was "my clippers are broken.". At this point, I figured she must have had a bad day and was still willing to let her proceed. My son was absolutely calm, never cried and never complained. She did not smile the entire time. She did not interact with us at all. She gave him ZERO instructions for what she wanted him to do and when he moved his head she looked annoyed and would sorta roughly move his head back. I'm not a confrontational person, but this behavior is unprofessional and extremely rude. If she doesn't know how to deal with children ( or people in general), perhaps she needs to find a new career. I'm upset that I don't have her name- but she never told us. We will not be returning. Zero stars.
