Halcyon is by far the best salon experience I have ever had. It’s clean and modern but Katie has done an excellent job making it feel like home. From the furniture and plants, to the scents and products she chooses, the thoughtful services and practices she employs, and the expert stylists she’s brought on. Most recently I’ve been working with Margaret and have been so happy. I came in with some concerns about thinning hair and was really nervous making a big change. During our first consultation she came prepared with photos she pulled from the Pinterest board I linked in my appointment notes and talked me through what was different about them so we could choose what worked best for me. I’ve seen her three times now and she’s continued to make me feel so comfortable in her chair. Thank you for all you do Katie, Margaret and team! ❤️

Having Cass cut my hair is one of my favorite self-care experiences of all time. She has such a warm energy, and I ALWAYS leave the salon feeling rejuvenated. Cass takes the time to listen to all of my cut concerns (I love a low-maintenance, grow-with-you type of style), and accommodates all of my requests - she even knows when to encourage my atypical requests when I'm craving change! Cass is a great conversationalist and one of those people you just wanna be around. Pittsburgh (and Halcyon) is lucky to have her <3

I love this salon so much. The space and the staff are very welcoming. So far, I have had a haircut with Katie and a scalp massage with Cassie and loved both. I learned a lot about how to care for and style my hair. I also love the Davines products! Thank you so much ❤️ I will be back!

I saw Cass on what was my first visit to Halcyon recently. I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences I have ever had in getting my hair done. Cass was really nice and listened to what I was hoping for with a cut and toner. It all turned out amazingly well! I have pretty much wash-and-go style now. I’m super happy. Everything about the salon was great- the products, the atmosphere , scalp/neck massage, the fact that they are gratuity-free—everything. They stand out. I will definitely return and recommend this salon, and Cass!

I've never been to a salon that has made me feel so comfortable. I am generally very anxious about getting my haircut and every time I have been here it has been enjoyable and relaxing. Everyone is very nice and very good at what they do.

Halcyon is a salon that celebrates hair, people, and stylists. Katie, the owner, has cultivated an adventurous and talented group of artists gifted at unique and stunning cuts and colors. Easy online booking, upfront cost (no tipping), uplifting atmosphere, and you can choose a talking or quiet appointment! I recommend talking if you're in the mood - you might leave with a podcast recommendation, a fresh way to think about celebrity, and a renewed appreciation for eco-concious approaches to self-care! And hair that falls to the floor is swept into a vacuum container that's then donated to a service that uses human hair to remedy oceanic oil spills. Yes, please!

Katie gave the best sensory friendly experience! My partner has ASD and she was so very patient, comforting and kind. I’ve been going for years, they give the best shampoos and really care about making their clients comfy.

Ok I never write a review but I felt like I had to say something because I just got the best haircut OF MY LIFE from Margaret. I usually cut my own hair because I'm very particular (neurotic); if my bangs don't feel right it drives me up a wall. I went in to Halcyon with a folder on my phone of bangs inspo pics and also delivered a real monologue about what I'm looking for in a haircut, which, honestly, I always do, but this is the first time someone has really heard me out, gotten it completely, and delivered EXACTLY what I was looking for. I've been to a couple other hair places in Pittsburgh and Boston over the past few years and I feel like they were Fine, but always leaning a little too much to jagged/choppy, which is like, the style rn but makes me look like a cool cartoon rat in a soda commercial. Aside from the amazing haircut, I had a fun time chatting, the salon itself is a vibe; good lighting, sculptural accent chairs, great bathroom mirror setup, I got to have a seltzer water. 10/10, THANK YOU so much!!

This is my favourite salon in Pittsburgh. The vibe is chill and the stylists really know what they are doing. I love that they charge by time with no tipping. Feels fair and reduces stress. I highly recommend Halcyon!

The last year of my life has been very difficult. There were a lot of days that I didn’t even want to get out of bed let alone wash my hair. I have long thick hair and the little things just seemed like such a huge effort. Katie and her team were always so kind. I would come in with the dirtiest hair and they would wash and blow it out for me. After leaving I actually felt human & pretty again. I am eternally grateful for Katie and her salon seeing me through the darkest of days. They were my sunshine I looked forward to every week. Halcyon is the best. When they say come as you are… they mean it. 💗

I really wanted to like this place, and clearly their hair stylists are talented and deeply kind people, but I have gotten my hair cut twice here and both times the 2 different stylists cut my hair many inches above where I asked them too. More recently the stylist cut layers into my hair that are blocky/choppy and don’t lay well. I went in to Halcyon hoping for a confidence boost and left feeling worse about my appearance. The stylists are very good and know their craft well, but for some reason seem to fall short with my hair.

Katie is amazing. I appreciated her ability to connect in the way that is important when spending 4+ hours getting your hair done. She was the first stylist to make me feel like, “yeah, of course we can achieve that.” Given my long, thick, dark hair & blondish goals. I like pricing transparency—bc I find myself tipping arbitrary amounts over 20% often bc I never know how much of a service cost is going to an owner or something like that. So I appreciate pricing that reflects what the professionals want to be paid for their time. Also, Katie’s shop is cute as hell. Down to each design piece. Everything felt exquisitely curated in the least pretentious way. Down to the amazing cold brew concentrate and little snacks she provided when we ended up spending nearly a whole day together. Happy to have found my hair place in PGH.

This is one of those magical salons. Absolute best and all of Pittsburgh. Beautiful ambience, natural light, and plants all over. Kind, beautiful humans, top-of-the-line products, and amazing stylist can’t ask for more ! 🤩

Halcyon is the most welcoming, wonderful space <3 Ali is amazing! Recently started growing my hair back in after shaving it, and she got me through the "awkward" stage with a stunning cut. She was able to shape my hair so that I could grow it in without looking like a fluffy hedgehog. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair even 3 months after the cut! Highly recommend for anyone looking for help growing your hair out again.

Had my first appointment at Halcyon today, with Katie! So excited to have found a place in Pittsburgh I want to keep going to. Katie was wonderful. She listened so attentively, was knowledgeable, informative, and just all around great. The atmosphere of the salon is calming and comfortable. The no-gratuity, fair-price system is great. Absolutely going back. Love my hair!

Halcyon is an amazing shop in a great location and their space is really nice. I love getting my hair done by Alli but all of the stylists are super kind and talented. Halcyon is not cheap but you definitely get your moneys worth here and the stylists schedule long visits to ensure they have time to properly care for your hair. This is my favorite go-to hair salon!

I've been a client here for over a year and, overall, I've enjoyed my time. However, after my recent appointment, I feel compelled to share my feedback. I've been working with my stylist for months to achieve a specific look for my upcoming wedding. We had a plan to maintain healthy, beige-cool blonde hair. Unfortunately, my last appointment didn't go as expected. The appointment took over 5 hours, cost me hundreds of dollars, and left me with yellow roots and noticeable banding throughout my hair. I reached out to my stylist to address the issue, as my wedding was just around the corner. However, I was informed that they were short-staffed and fully booked, and they would try to squeeze me in if possible but it was unlikely that they could. Feeling anxious about whether I would hear back from them, I decided to contact other salons in New Orleans, where my wedding was being held. Luckily, a color specialist at New Orleans salon, who had never worked with me before, rearranged her schedule to fix my hair. She did an exceptional job in just an hour, correcting the color and providing dimension. The fact that a new stylist from another salon was willing to go above and beyond to help me when my own stylist couldn't or wouldn't, speaks volumes. No one at Halcyon ever reached out to see if it got fixed or how it turned out. Although I've enjoyed my time here, this experience has left me disappointed and looking for local alternatives.

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Mary for almost a year and they are truly the best! Recently, I decided I needed a change, and Mary walked me through color options within my budget and comfort zone. They are very transparent, laidback, and I always have a positive experience in their chair. I love my split dye, which Mary pulled off through meticulous foiling on my thick head of hair. Would definitely recommend Mary for both cut and color.

Katie gave my hair (and outlook on life, really) a much needed upgrade today and I couldn't be happier! In need of change of style for a new season of life, I came in for my first visit today with a vague idea of how I wanted my hair to look, but not sure if it would work for me or if I was ready for the change. Katie listened with intention, offered several options, and gave gentle recommendations. It was easy to trust her fully to go with the bolder/shorter option, and it turned out better than I could have imagined -- somehow she knew exactly what I was evisioning even better than I did! On top of a perfect haircut, she gave so many helpful styling tips, the salon was cozy and relaxed, and everyone I interacted with was SO warm and friendly. I'm normally someone who drags my feet on regular trims and such, but this is the first salon in my life where I *can't wait* to come back for my next appointment. Shoutout as well for Colleen and her above-and-beyond scheduling assistance and Mary working at the chair next to Katie's for the extra boost of short-hair confidence! :)

Katie is the most thorough, attentive and knowledgeable hairstylist with A+ sparkling wit and incredible taste, so sitting in her chair (in this beautifully curated salon) is a riot and somehow never intimidating. I’m always happy with Katie’s work and a greater understanding of how to style my own hair.

Mary cut my hair and I was so happy with it that I've booked with them again. I'm a wash-and-wear kind of person and sometimes it's hard when you leave the salon and your hair looks great but you can never replicate it. Mary gave me a great cut and a super easy styling tip that helped me enjoy my haircut for weeks and weeks.

The stylists here are all phenomenal! They are all master of their craft. I can not praise them enough. I see Alli, who I jokingly call my hair witch. I have fine, baby soft hair with a loose wave pattern. She has found a way to get my wave to come to life and I am very appreciate. I will continue to confidently suggest this salon to everyone!

This was hands down the best experience I had with getting my hair done! I am usually pretty nervous in salons, worrying about if I will be weird or say/do the wrong thing but at Halcyon I immediately felt so comfortable, welcomed and respected. Mary did an INCREDIBLE job with my hair, which I have a lot of. They really made the vision I had in my head come to life and were just so enjoyable to talk with, making the whole experience nice for me. This is the happiest I have ever been with my hair and I am so grateful to Mary! Plus it's so cute in there and the staff are all so kind and fun.
