I am really happy with my hair❤️ Sarah was a pleasure to work with. This was my second time doing a dry cut, first time with Sarah and at this salon, and I am very pleased with the results and also my time spent at Headchop. She was thorough, patient, and creative. I told her what my expectations were and she exceeded with her results. I will for sure be a returning client. She was so communicative during the process, which is always reassuring.

I had a great haircut with Kamie! I keep my hair short with a round shape and she delivered the exact cut I was after. She listened to my concerns about what hasn't worked with previous stylists and walked me through what she was doing. It was easy to trust her. She's been cutting curly hair for a long time and knows what she's doing - I highly recommend her.

We hired Martha Ellen to do our hair for our wedding. She was fantastic. Creative, easy to work with, and great at taking our vision and bringing it to life. She was a total joy day of. We felt comfortable and were so happy with how it all came out. Would highly recommend for a curly haired human!

First of all— Martha Ellen & her team are Brooklyn’s curly hair saviors. The Headchop studio in Williamsburg deserves the biggest shoutout. I have unique hair— curly, fine but thick, so it is prone to breakage and getting tangled. Finding a decent curly hair expert who also does dry cuts in NYC was a nightmare when I moved to the city. But this place? Game-changer. They even do amazing hair extensions, blonde specialist work, and hand-painting, and I can confirm that these are top-notch. Keep in mind that I have been seeing Martha for over five years now, so the growth and change I have seen in this business is wild. Their website and online booking system is super easy, and now they have this cute app with membership and loyalty points. Y’all, I love an app. I. love. an app. It makes me feel like a VIP when a membership program is legit and actually treats its members. From the moment I booked my first appointment (super easy btw), everything was smooth. Her assistant Anais (who is a stylist-in-training), manages the phones, and she makes booking seamless if you don’t have time to go on their site. Their whole vibe is so chill but professional. The studio itself is boutique and has an elevated feel, without being stuffy. During your appointment, they actually educate you on your hair health and craft a custom treatment plan with products that are uniquely tailored to you and your needs. The team at Headchop and Lil Chop is legit. They're not just about trends or pushing the latest fad; they actually care about your hair health. No pushy sales, just honest advice and personalized hair care recommendations, with products that actually work for my curls. My hair is radically transformed since I first became a client, and in a way that made sense for me. My hair has never looked or felt better. Seriously. If you're in NYC and struggling with your hair, do yourself a favor and check out Headchop and Lil Chop in Williamsburg. Dolls, trust me!! It's worth it!! I will never see anyone else.

I had an amazing cut with Sarah here. I was going from a b(l)ob to a pixie cut and I’ve never had my hair that short before so understandably I was nervous going in. However I showed just couple reference photos and she knew exactly what to do and went to work!! I have A LOT of very thick hair with thick waves and she didn’t even sweat. She also washed and styled my hair after and I knew that she knew what she was doing when she started squishing in the styling products. I’ve never had much success with getting my hair styled the right way from hair salons so I was very impressed with her.

Wow, wow, wow do they know they’re curly hair :-) she taught me how to take care of my hair while she cut, and I realized I need some gel for these wavy color treated locks. I recommend kamie.

Best haircuts for curly hair. I suffered from COVID related hairloss and used to have long luscious curls that became sparse and sad. My hair was falling out in clumps. I reached out to Martha Ellen who treated me with so much warmth and kindness and understanding. She saw me for a consultation first and then had me back for a haircut - I wanted to cut it super short for the first time in my life and I was super nervous. Suffice to say, it was the best hair cutting experience I've ever had. She took so much time and care to cut every single curl, check in with me about length, and set my hair so it felt full and not scanty for the first time in ages. I walked out feeling so confident and happy with my hair after being so devastated by it for so long. And not only that, she gave me so many tips on how to encourage re-growth, vitamins to take that worked for her other customers.. I could cry for how happy it made me. She's a really wonderful human and really so talented. It was also my most expensive haircut, but worth every penny. I'll never go anywhere else.

Dominika gave me such a good CHOP! I had hair below my chest and I cut it to my chin. Dominika was so helpful— she took her time to not only understand what I was looking for, but to talk me through the process step by step as it was happening, and offered suggestions I didn’t even know to ask for. Someone lovely, whose name I regret I can’t remember, washed my hair and diffused it and gave me lots of advice of products and styling tips. I had a great experience here with what might have otherwise felt like a nerve-wracking haircut— I absolutely recommend!

I had an amazing experience at Headchop! First time visiting and over a year since my last haircut, I booked an appointment with Stephanie and she made me feel so comfortable and heard. I have had dry cuts before and only do them now. Stephanie asked amazing questions to help understand what I wears hoping for and offered me options that I was excited to try - in shape and in products. I’m so happy and will definitely be back soon.

I had such a wonderful experience at Headchop! The atmosphere is really fun and the staff were all very friendly. Maggie gave me a really awesome haircut. She was so knowledgeable and really took her time to give me the best cut possible. I had a really enjoyable time talking with her as well. If you're in the New York area and have curly hair, I doubt there's a better place to go!

I love headchop! As someone with curly hair who was never taught how to take care of it, suffered through youthful years of Supercuts turning me into a poodle, and used to hate their hair I'm so glad to have found such a great place for all curl types when I moved to NYC! It's a great space and I recommend it to all my curly haired friends. Since my previous stylist left the city, I've started seeing Kamie and WOW. She is so knowledgeable and helped me figure out what kinds of products work best on my 2c/3a hair, how I should style it, all while being a kind and exacting professional as she cut my hair. I walked out of the appointment amazed - even with other curly cuts, my hair usually has curl cuts so the styling doesn't work out, but they looked SO GOOD when done by Kamie!! She really knows her stuff - all textures and types, be it wavy or curly or coily. I highly recommend her, and look forward to getting my hair cut by her in the future!

I’ve had my haircut at headchop in the past and had a great experience with a stylist who is unfortunately not there anymore given some serious mistreatment of people of color at this salon. Headchop is not only operating illegally at their location- they have predatory policies toward employee commissions and a recorded history of stealing ideas from their Black employees and reneging on promises of equity. Do not support this business.

Martha Ellen has been cutting my curly hair now for 15 years. Every time I try someone else I am not happy. I drive 60-90 minutes to see her, and it is worth it. I was there when Head Chop opened, and it's only gotten better and better. I love the quirkiness of it.

My curly cut and color was wonderful with Sarah! She was super thorough, spent time talking through my needs as an actor and gave me the perfect subtle shag. The color was also exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend!

On the expensive side for a haircut, but worth every penny! Especially if you have curly hair. I have fine 3b curls, and headchop has been cutting my hair for about a year. Each pixie cut somehow manages to look fresh and different, and they use natural products which I love.

Sarah gave me a fantastic hair cut. I was nervous to use thinning shears but she assured me it would result in a good outcome and it did. Sarah really knows how to cut thick, curly coarse hair. I definitely will return for my next haircut and am so glad I found this place.

Updated to inform that Jackie moved and is no longer at this salon. My first experience at Headchop was a good one. The salon is located in a cozy nook, at the garden level. The space itself is unique, with a homey, eclectic vibe. When I moved to NYC from Chicago this past summer, I knew that I would need to find a great colorist. I had been seeing a colorist for a few years in Chicago and he recommended Jackie. Jackie has colored, cut and styled my hair on two occasions. She gave me two different shades of warm, vibrant brown and I was happy both times! Jackie is great at her craft, highly knowledgeable and skilled at both color and cut. She will go the extra mile for you to feel 100% happy with your hair. This is very important to me, because sometimes, color may not come out as you hoped. The last colorist I was seeing, never got back to me when I let her know that the color didn't take on my hair, only the roots. Sadly, I walked around with two different colors and it caused me to not return to that salon. I don't have to worry about this with Jackie because I know she would feel bad if I didn't like my hair. Jackie is friendly, down to earth and personable. She definitely makes you feel like you're speaking to a friend you've known for quite some time, not just a random customer sitting down in her chair. Totally recommend Jackie!!
