I have been a customer here for many years. The staff is amazing and so is my awesome stylist and colorist Lauren. I am so lucky that she knows to cut, style, and color curly hair. Also, throughout the years, I have transitioned from brown, to red, to blonde hair and Lauren expertly made sure we lightened my hair in a safe manner. I also have had my makeup professionally done by Amanda M for several events and it’s been absolutely beautiful. I’ve also ran in for quick blowouts with other stylist and they have always accommodated me at any time. The vibe of the shop is always welcoming and laid back and we always have a good laugh!!!

DO NOT go here, especially if you're blonde. Friendly staff but terrible hair. I went in for the first time on a Saturday and it was a complete disaster. My scalp is still so sensitive, the back of my head/neck hurts from spending so much time over the sink, and my hair is embarrassing. The only redeeming factor was that they were very apologetic, didn't charge me full price and offered for me to come back and have them do another toner, but I'm honestly too scared to go back. My hair truly looked better before I went in and now I'm having to go somewhere else to help try to fix it. I spent 5 and a half hours there (and didn't even get a cut). The bleach was supposed to sit for 15 mins and I sat for 40 mins, mainly because she started to work on another client, and there are only 2 sinks to wash hair (both of which were occupied because the salon was entirely too booked) so I had to wait my turn to get the bleach washed out. After applying the first toner, my hair was greyish brown (supposed to be blonde) and my roots were a totally different color than the rest of my head. After stripping the toner off and adding lightener, my hair was straight up orange. Then we called in reinforcements to help (another stylist who has been there longest), and she added yet another toner and was at least able to get my hair to a shade of yellow, and put in some darker color around my roots to break up the yellow. It still looks awful and has visible cheetah spots, but after being there all day and my scalp in physical pain, I had to get out of there before I started crying. I have been getting highlights since I was 13 and have never had this happen to me. I will definitely not go back and would highly recommend you go somewhere else too.

I cannot say enough positive things about this salon. Lauren does an amazing job. She is always attentive and knows exactly what I want. Love the vibes!

I visited the salon on June 21. Lauren did a fabulous job with my updo for a wedding. I also had makeup done by Amanda that was also fabulous. I would highly recommend either of them. Very professional and I was so happy with the end result!

OK, I wish I could give zero. One of the worst hair salons I have ever been to in my whole life. I don’t recommend any woman of color or curled hair to come to get her hair done here because they don’t know our type of hair!!! The worst part is that she toned my hair twice after bleaching it, and my hair color came out orangey, and they overcharged me for something I didn’t even ask for. I left this place with $230 and a tip of $27 with puffy orangey hair color, and the straightener was really bad! Worst decision!!!!! First, they better work on their customer service language. The front old lady was nasty to me, and I don’t really appreciate it. It’s not because I don’t look like her, or maybe never judge a book by its cover, because you never know who you're speaking to!

Dominique is great! I'm an Asian man and I need to get a specific haircut. I went to several other hair salon around Passyunk Ave but they are all booked and can't accept walk-in. As I'm walking around, I randomly stopped by this place and I asked if they accept walk-in. Luckily they do! Dominique asked me what kind of haircut and what size of clipper. I just told her what I want, short on the back and side but a bit long on the front and top. I have NO IDEA what size of the clipper. Dominique start cutting my hair with some number and asked if I need to get it shorter (closer to the skin or not). She is very patient. Not only that she knows how to work with Asian hair. My hair doesn't look jagged or spiking around. This was 3 weeks ago. It's easy to say if the haircut is good right after the cut, but often times it doesn't looks good after period of time. But not this time. It's been 3 weeks, may hair grows a bit and it still looks good! I will come back and use this place again for my next cut!

Ive been going to this salon for a few years, Ive always been happy with any service that I received!! THe stylists are friendly and not stuck up like some other salons Ive been to. THis is the only salon for all your hair needs. Worth the trip BTW, Nancy, the owner, is a riot.....love her, old school south philly!! Wouldnt change a thing!!

5 star reviews are absolutely nonsense and fake. This place is total trash. The staff use horrible language not caring who is listening. The one girl went out to smoke a cigarette 3 times within my haircut and smelled like an ashtray while doing my hair. Gross, unsanitary and unprofessional staff. Don't waste your money trust me

I absolutely love this place. Everyone is so welcoming and lovely there, it feels like I’m just hanging out with friends. Not to mention the stunning work they do!! I have been here 3 times now and have been more than happy each time. Love love love !!!

I've been going to Lauren for over 10 years, she is the best! When I first walked in way back when, I was desperate to find someplace new - watched several of the gals there as all were busy with clients. Was so impressed with Lauren and I've never regretted my choice. Nancy, the owner is awesome! Love everyone there, even bring the hubby in - and he is extremely picky about who touches his hair!🙄 Thanks Headhunters!!🤩🥰🤗

Just recently moved to Philly, so it’s been a gradual and careful process in finding quality services I can rely on and feel good about. Lauren at Headhunters is that service when it comes to hair! I am SO glad that the first salon I scheduled an appointment with canceled on me last minute (huge letdown given I had preemptively let them know how important it was for me to keep that appointment in that time). But hey it all worked out because in a panic to try and find someone that would take me in last minute, I found Headhunters and the lovely Laura who took me in as her last client of the night. She was friendly and extremely good at her job and I left feeling not only good about my haircut but good about the next 10 haircuts I may need! Thanks Headhunters for finding the time and becoming my go to salon!

Booked an appointment the day prior to going in. I got 2-3 confirmation emails, as well as 2 text messages making sure I was absolutely coming to my appointment. I got there 15-20 minutes early. I walked into the salon and one client was there just getting shampooed. I was told my stylist would be with me shortly. My appointment time comes and goes and I was again told someone would be right with me without me saying anything. Now 23 minutes after my appointment time, the stylist was just barely starting to blow dry the woman’s very long and full hair. At this point the receptionist is in the back doing something, I had to go seek her out and tell her I was leaving. Absolutely no apology or recognition from the stylist who was just ignoring me and not acknowledging how late she was. The receptionist that told she’d be with me shortly was more concerned with her lunch and closing duties and looked surprised I hadn’t be seen yet…I’ll never go back. Picked the wrong salon, many more in area that want your business.

Great Salon on the 'Yunk! In preparation four our Anniversary, my wife and I decided to get hair cuts. She's been going for years but this is my second time. Lauren was excellent. She is friendly and a true master of her craft. In the time of what seemed like a quick conversation, she tamed my months old growth (pandemic life, yay!) into a perfectly executed fade and spot on side part. She also does my wife's curly locks and is the only person my wife will see. Lauren is a wonder with all hair types! I absolutely recommend Headhunters Hair Design. Ask for Lauren!
