All throughout college, I used to get perms. Back then, it was easy to find a Korean salon in the suburbs that offered this service. Fast forward to January 2025: I was having a really hard time finding a place downtown that offered them. Maybe it's more popular among Asian/Asian-Americans? Regardless, I searched for months to find a place. By sheer luck, I came upon HeadQuarter Salon's website during my search. I was immediately intrigued. Here was a salon that offered perms, and multiple kinds, at that! Going through all of the client photos was really helpful too. I called on the spot and made an appointment. Over the phone, I was asked if I wanted to see a specific person, and I said no. That can be a gamble with any new place, but I also know it's kind of difficult to mess up a perm. For me, working nine hours a day in the office, working out at night, I have very little free time to curl my hair. It's such a pain, and as my hair is growing longer and longer, it is really a test of my patience to spend the extra time using a wand to style my hair. Personally, perms are hassle-free and easy to style--especially for those mornings when I'm rushing out the door. I went to Chinatown early Sunday morning for my appointment. My stylist was Logan, and I immediately became obsessed. He was patient, kind, funny and had great personal style (a plus if you're working in that industry). I could also tell that he was a perfectionist, which is crucial when having someone do your hair. I showed him two pictures for reference, and we decided together on a digital perm. He asked me if I wanted a haircut too, but wasn't pushy about it. I asked for a trim and some face-framing layers, knowing a perm would just hang too heavy on my long hair otherwise. The cut was perfect, and the perm exceeded my expectations. I am so thrilled with the results! All in all, the entire process took a little over two hours, which is average when getting this service. I am so grateful that I found HeadQuarter Salon and Logan. I will be back in the future, no doubt about that.

Terrible perm, got it twice after the first one didn’t come out good, then I told them to do it again. They did and It didnt even last a day. I felt like they were just rushing it.

They cut my son’s hair without talking to me (the mom) first. My son had beautiful long hair over 12 inches long and we were planning on donating it for cancer patients. They said they were talking him in back to wash it first. And then when he came from the back they had cut it all off!!! They had taken him to a back room where I could not see him and asked him what he wanted and then just cut it all off and threw it in the garbage!!!!!! And when I complained the manager said “oh well we don’t ask parents unless kids are very young” Ridiculous!!!! Don’t trust these people with your kids.

No frills quick service. I asked for Logan and was promised Logan but got Ricky at the end. I wasn’t informed of the changes at all, and only found out when they announced where my tip was going to. Ricky took his time to really cut the layers into my hair - time will tell when the layers grow out but so far so good

Went here for a perm and was assigned a stylist named Alex. His English was not the best and communication was challenging. I showed him a picture of what I wanted. After the treatment was complete it looked okay. I waited the 3 days before shampooing, per his instructions. Unfortunately, once I did shampoo my hair was stick straight again. There was no perm whatsoever. $100 gone and nothing to show for it. I would skip this place for a perm.

I will never go to someone else besides getting my haircut done at headquarters. I never been disappointed with any of the hairstylists, I usually rushing in and take whoever is available. My last haircut I decided to try someone else at a different hair salon, what a big mistake! I can’t get over how ugly my hair came out. It was choppy and chunky without any style, what a disaster. I’m so glad Norris saves me!! Thank you! You don’t know how much I appreciate you for saving my hair!

I’m not happy AT ALL! That’s my worse haircut ever! I cannot stop crying.. I have to wait at least 6 months to fix it because I want to keep my length. I called them and they offered to fix it , I asked them if they can book me with another hair stylist. But they booked me with him! I’m not going there because they ignored all my requests!

My stylist, KK, was incredibly disappointing. Right from the start, I gave him very clear instructions: I wanted a specific style for my bangs, with only a light trim at the ends of my hair and no significant length cut off. I even showed him photos of my previous haircut as a reference. However, things went downhill from the beginning. Firstly, he kept criticizing my hair, saying it was dry and had split ends, which isn’t true – my hair has never had split ends. He used this as an opportunity to push hair treatments on me. Even after I firmly declined three times, he started suggesting I dye my hair, insisting that my natural color didn’t look good and made my complexion look darker. I found this incredibly offensive. After I refused again, he started cutting much more off the ends of my hair than I asked, despite my repeated emphasis that I didn’t want it short. By the end, he’d cut off at least 6 inches. When it came to trimming my bangs, I initially wasn’t satisfied with the length and asked for them to be shorter. He argued back, saying shorter bangs wouldn’t look good, and that longer bangs would help frame my face and cover my cheekbones. I don’t have any issues with my cheekbones, and this comment felt inappropriate. After I insisted, he finally cut my bangs to the length I wanted but did it in a rough, careless way. This entire experience left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I started to wonder if he held a grudge after I refused his sales pitches or if he had some kind of bias, as he completely disregarded my input and was nearly impossible to communicate with. recent visit will be my last. i’ve been coming here for about 7 years but their service and the quality of their work has declined while their prices went up ( around $50 more) went in for a haircut and perm, stylist trimmed my hair a bit then the shampoo technician did most of the work. they overbook multiple clients for one stylist- they’ll start then stop and you’ll end up waiting in the chair, while they bounce from one customer to another. it’s very clear that theyre becoming more for profit rather than making their customers happy with results. my hair ended up being so fried and it didnt even look like the picture i showed my stylist. i told them it was for a very important event but this visit ended being one of the worst experiences ive had. cried after then wore a hat everyday until i had it fixed by another salon.

tbh, I don't think I'll come here again. Since I used to do a perm here, however, it's only like wavy (while it's supposed to be curly). I just went there again today and asked for same thing (because I think it might depend on the barber), so I clearly told them that I want curly, not wavy, they say ok ok and will be curly. At the end, it turned out as wavy (worse than last time).

I would give a 0 if I could. Service feels so rushed but somehow still takes forever to complete. I’ve tried to get my hair dyed 2 times there now and each time they can’t match the color and I leave with 2 different colors at my roots and the rest of my head. The dye they use must be so cheap because my eyes water and I can’t breathe because the fumes are so strong. The dye burns the scalp and the extremely aggressive hair scrub left my scalp raw. They don’t know how to dry hair and don’t use any protective products at all. HORRIBLE experience, horrible customer service, horrible dye quality. They even welcomed me to sit in a chair full of someone else’s hair - didn’t bother cleaning it. And they kept trying to thin my hair when I specifically said I do not thin my hair on my cuts.

Terrible place, very filthy. I asked the front lady to recommend a good barber for me because this is my first time and I don’t know anyone. She then assigned a person whom I have a bad impression from the beginning because he didn’t even have a good haircut on his own head. I wish that I could have the courage to leave right away at that time……of course the result was terrible! Much Shorter than I requested and super ugly!! And the guy was very rude during the process who argued everything wrong on my fault. He complained that my hair was too thin and flat, there is not enough fullness on my temple area, I didn’t explain well to him about the ideal length, etc. But I did explained very well and I even bring the picture. Anyway this is terrible experience! At the end I still paid $42 in total to get out of there. Please be alert of that place if you see my post!

I think it’s partly my fault for coming here, but they cannot do a proper skin fade and don’t have the right type of clippers. I wish the guy cutting my hair would have just told me and I would have gotten something else. I don’t understand why he even attempted it when he knew he doesn’t have the right tools. Also he never did a razor neck clean or trim around my hairline or eyebrows. He also used thinning shears a bunch and it left my hair super frizzy and he didn’t clean it up by going over it freehand with a trimmer to remove strays. I’m going to have to clean it up when I get home. My hair is comically frizzy because of how much the guy used thinning shears. My haircut, a mid-skin fade, was okay, but it was a little off since they didn’t have the right tools. If you’re looking for a true skin fade, I wouldn’t recommend this place. However, they seemed to do a lot of women’s hair and non-skin fades quite well.

My experience at headquarters was amazing!! They took me in as soon as I walked in and the prices are unbeatable! My haircut came out exactly as the picture I showed Ricky! Who btw is really friendly and professional! I will definitely be coming back!

So I have curly hair and they usually deal with straighter hair there. I wasn't too happy with the style that I left with but my color is pretty. Kim is really sweet

Haircut and perm (before and after shown below). Very good stylist (love Logan, he is very attentive and very detail-oriented without a single strand out of place). He knew exactly what hairstyle looked good for me and it was very fast process to start the haircut and perm. They also shower your head for you and the ambience is nice with oldies pop playing in the background. Perm came out great and I feel like a new person whenever I go to Headquarters!

The perm wasn't as curly as I wanted, and although I followed the aftercare instructions from the stylish, the perm didn't last more than a month. Overall, it was a bit disappointing for how much it cost.

My friend recommended getting a haircut by Norris. So glad that I listened! He’s super friendly and knowledgeable and we chatted about scary movies. He cut my hair exactly how I wanted it and made some gentle suggestions to suit my face shape and how I take care of my hair. When it came time to pay, I was shocked by how generous and fair the pricing was! I will be going back to Norris for all my future haircuts for sure!

Alex cut and styled my hair today and he did an incredible job! I Requested for him to straighten it at the end. He then suggested a beach wave. While showing me a picture as an example, I instantly agreed! I was super impressed with his customer service skills and l Love the cut and style I walked out with. This was not my first time at Headquarter, and I WILL be back! THANKS AGAIN ALEX!

The barber did not listen to my request and just started cutting what he wanted to do, horrible place to get a haircut from. The haircut was rushed, and unsanitary.

The woman taking care of money at the front desk was so arrogant, rude, dishonest and greedy. It’s ridiculous for them to keep her in the store. She should be fired.
