I had a hair coloring appointment with Ruth back in April of 2024. My hair has a lot of thick silvery streaks within dark blonde and auburn tones, which I love, but tends to appear mousy-brown. I wanted to warm up my complexion, enhance my natural color, and not commit to coloring my hair every 3 months. I was nervous these were bold asks for one appointment, but here I am almost 9 months later and my hair looks as beautiful as it did post coloring, roots grown in and all. Ruth took her time to understand what I was asking for, showing me photos of styles until they resonated with me. She also embraced my request for a warm honey blonde, which I feared other stylists would shy me away from as someone with a lot of greys. The end result was a gorgeous balayage that just looks better with time. My hair is also very thick so it can take a long time to color. Anticipating a long appointment, Ruth was relaxing company. While letting the color sit I was also offered a seltzer, some fun-sized chocolates and magazines to read. The salon pup is also a therapeutic companion. Prior to this appointment I had a shag haircut at Herringbone, I forget with who but that was also a great experience with stellar results. Thanks Ruth and Herringbone, you are all the real deal.

Everyone at this salon is professional and welcoming, from booking an appointment to receiving your service. Portia and Ruth were helpful, kind, and accommodating to help me get the best outcome for my hair while working with my budget and managing my expectations. While what I wanted done was not possible at this time Ruth tried what she could to get me where I wanted. I admire her professionalism and patience as well as the salon’s environment. I recommend anyone who can to go here if you’re looking for a salon that cares about making you feel your best with no judgment.

Hannah is incredible. She did my hair and hair styling for 4 special wedding guests for both a ceremony day and a reception day. We can't stop talking about how great she is, and how well our looks turned out. She was so welcoming, open to any ideas, had great expertise to share and made getting ready for the big day SO easy. I highly recommend working with Hannah and the whole Herringbone team - they are AWESOME!

Just moved to Philly and was really nervous about getting my first haircut and color in a new city. This is the first time in over 10 years that my best friend has not done my hair. Gabby made this experience so enjoyable and relaxing! I have never loved a haircut and color so quickly after it’s been done. Cannot recommend her enough. She did such an incredible job and I’ll definitely come back for future services!

Casey is phenomenal. LOVED my cut. She is a great listener and delivered exactly what I wanted, with even better results due to her expert recommendations (shaping and thinning after the blowout). She also took her time which is rare these days. Super cute salon too! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been going to Herringbone Salon for a few years now, I love every experience I have going there. The owners are so nice and they have the cutest shop dog! My hair colorist is Claudia and my hair stylist is Hannah and I absolutely adore both of them. They are so welcoming, friendly and have absolutely transformed my hair. It took me a long time to find the right place with the right stylists and I’m thankful for them. The salon has a relaxed vibe and it’s so aesthetically pleasing. I look forward to my visits every time! Highly recommend!

I'm really perplexed about how to review this. James did a good job styling my hair it was not a $120 blow out curl style. It's almost twice what I've ever paid in any city. Same service in New York was $70.00, Newport RI $60.00, Cape Cod $60.00. etc. Same exact service. Whoever the rude person was that checked me out you shouldn't work with the public or people in general. Such a bad ugly attitude. Some how business owners push the negative reviews down. This is an exceptional salon and I strongly recommend them. Highest of highest recommendations for James for cuts, styles, tutorials, formal occasions, the works - he is a renowned expert with many years of experience through The House of Bumble and Bumble. We are so lucky to have access to someone with his experience and creativity without having to go to NY! I don't let anyone else cut my hair. Similarly, I cannot say enough positive things about Ruth's expertise with highlights and color. She considers your ideas while also being considerate of your expectations for when you can return. I feel so lucky to have found this community. Love all of them so much!

Early fall I booked an appointment excited to find a new stylist in Fishtown. The night before my appointment my son fell sick, early morning 8:00am I called the salon and left a voicemail: "Good morning, I understand this is very late notice and I understand you have a policy, however my son has fallen ill and needs to stay home with me, is there anyway I can move or reschedule my appointment, I completely understand if I cannot." As a parent I don't believe I deserve special treatment, therefore I was simply interested in knowing if there was a possibility of any flexibility. An hour or two later, I received a phone call and a very rude person decided to "educate" me on what a "cancellation policy" is. I never once argued, but her/their tone was demeaning and it left me both hurt and infuriated at the lack of human decency from the person on the phone at Herringbone Salon. That afternoon I bundled up my sick 2.5 year old son and took him to my appointment in his stroller. Upon my arrival I waited for my stylist, and during my haircut my son sat in his stroller with his ipad, the stroller was on the right side, out of anyone's way, as there was no other stylist on that side that afternoon. Moments into my appointment she/they (front desk receptionist) asked me to move my son's stroller, again he was NOT in anyone's way, even my STYLIST said "he's fine", in fact there was only one stylist working on the right side of the salon that day, and that was my seat. Another 10 minutes later she/they insisted my son turn the volume down as others are bothered... there were 3-4 other people in the salon that morning, completely immersed in their conversations. And as a mother I am extremely self aware NOT to bother other around us, this person was literally annoyed the minute I called in the morning to the moment I left from my appointment. I later proceeded to share with my stylist the rude attitude of the receptionist over the phone and her consistent pestering of me and my sick son during our visit. As much as I enjoyed the actual hair cut from my stylist, I will never return just because of your receptionist. Im not sure if she/they are related to the owner, but they sure as hell acted extremely entitled to the space and lacked complete customer service and basic humanity. The incessant pestering, as if I couldn't feel her/their eyes on me and my son the entire time. (my sick son who was STRAPPED into his stroller during the entire appointment) Also, if you (the receptionist) are reading this, I saw right through your bullshit as soon as you realized I did not give you any attitude EVER, not even ONCE. NOT over the phone, NOR in person INSPITE you pestering me and my son the entire time. To be honest the receptionist gave very salty boomer energy and I will pray for you to heal whatever is making you this miserable. To the owner I hope you all fix that situation soon if you want returning customers.. Sincerely, A fellow entrepreneur who understands customer service is the foundation to a successful business.

I have had my hair cut by James twice now at Herringbone and there truly is no one better. I have very curly hair and went from very long to shoulder length and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. He is so knowledgeable and really listens to what I wanted. I will be going to James for years to come! The salon and everyone who works there is also just incredibly sweet and communicative. It's always a great experience!

I was looking to feel and look different– I wanted a kind of shaggy long hair look, after not having my hair styled for many years. Hannah customized a look that was just right for me and my routine. Everything about my experience today, from the cool magazines, to the comfy seats, to the scalp massage, to the conversation and cut was 11/10. I feel beautiful! Thank you 🌞

My hair has been TRANSFORMED going to Herringbone, and it's all thanks to James (cut) and Claudia (color). The whole salon makes you feel like you're a VIP. :) James delivers every time I present a vision, and talks through all the ways I want to style my hair or have it fall naturally before starting a cut. I went without cutting my hair for years and I'm so thankful that when I finally decided to make a change I found James! I trust him implicitly and his opinions and recommendations for changes always lead me to a perfect end result. Claudia is incredible with color. I went from a full head of dark brown hair to sandy blonde with her, and my hair is still as healthy and shiny as ever. She puts so much care into her work and I couldn't imagine entrusting my often contradicting color visions with anyone other than her!

Nice salon, they offer great products and have beautiful hair accessories. I see Casey, she is awesome, gives a great haircut, and isn’t pushy. I just moved to the neighborhood and am making this place my new salon.

This is a really nice salon. Gabby has done my hair twice. I have really long curly hair and it needs a lot of TLC. She does a great job, highly recommend this place. You’re in good hands here.

I don't usually write reviews, but popped into Herringbone to get my hair curled before a photoshoot, and have to talk about how amazing Casey is! I am terrible at doing my own hair and I can never get it to stay curled, but after Casey did my hair it survived blustery winds & intermittent rain, and was still going strong many hours later. As a non-Philly native I was a little nervous about going to an unfamiliar place, but Casey is so sweet and talented, and if I lived closer I would definitely return!

It’s a nice salon, but I have to say my cut hasn’t settled well (not a great feeling when you only get a haircut 3 times a year) and my color didn’t come out looking how I asked for it. I was really looking forward to refreshing my look postpartum but now I’m just waiting for it to grow out again.

This is a review for Herringbone Salon and Kerri Fawley as a wedding hairstylist! I booked Kerri as my hair stylist for my wedding and went to the salon for a cut, trial and style leading up to the big day had lovely experiences! The salon is a beautiful space, and offers warm, attentive service that is unparalleled! As for Kerri, she is a true talent when it comes to hair and is the exact person you would want with you on your big day! She nailed my vision and stayed with me all the way until I put my veil on and walked out the door to see my husband for the first time. Just all around a kind person and an expert of her craft! I can't recommend Herringbone as a salon and Kerri as a stylist enough!

This is long overdue since I went to Herringbone several months ago but I felt the need to write this. I scheduled a haircut and color last minute (that’s my fault) for a few events I had coming up in the following few weeks. They were so booked but managed to maneuver a few appointments to squeeze me in (a brand new customer!). I had my haircut with Casey who was awesome. Great listener. She was purposefully conservative with my hair since I was unsure about exactly what I wanted which I loved about her. There’s nothing worse than getting an overly cut haircut which ensures someone will probably be hesitant to return. Casey on the other hand, was thoughtful with her cut and when I called and wanted a a few more layers, she got me in and added more all before my events arrived. Ruth is a master Colorist. Like a present-day salon Picasso. Also a great listener and very engaged with her customers. I LOVE my color and have gotten a lot of compliments. Her dog often joins her and that certainly makes the color process highly enjoyable for dog lovers as, if invited, her dog just might sit on your lap. Anyone who ever contacted me at the salon was so helpful and legit performed magic to work with my schedule to get me in. Highly recommend.

Visited Herringbone recently for a change - going slightly darker after a lifetime of being blonde - and Ruth (co-owner of the salon) absolutely slayed the color. She was so attentive and knew what would look best for me even when I was unsure! I couldn’t be happier with the results and plan to keep returning. Portia at the front desk was also amazingly nice!

Wow! I’ve never left a salon feeling amazing about my hair (usually that feeling that in a week or two it’ll be okay) but I left my appointment with Hannah at Herringbone feeling on fire! I really appreciated all the time she took to get to know what I was hoping for with my hair and working to find something that matched that complimented me, and gave me great tips on how to maintain my look at home with my current approach to hairstyling. So happy to have found a great place in my neighborhood to come back to again and again!

I just had the best haircut experience I have ever had at Herringbone with stylist Hannah. She was an excellent listener, ensuring that I left with exactly the cut/style that I wanted. I felt like she really took the time to listen to my hair history, my concerns, and my daily grooming habits in order to give me a haircut I would not only love when I left but something I could maintain between trims. I am absolutely thrilled and cannot recommend her and this salon enough.
