I’ve been getting my haircuts at HKS for over two years now, and the experience has always been fantastic. Recently, I visited for hair coloring and a haircut with Yui. I showed her a picture of the style I wanted, and she nailed it—the color turned out exactly as I had envisioned. The staff are incredibly friendly, and they maintain the salon impeccably clean. Highly recommend!

My new favorite NYC hair salon! Yui cut my hair exactly as requested - light side bangs and feathery layers. She was very skilled in creating a style that would flatter my thick + wavy hair. The head massage and hot towel were much appreciated. Definitely coming back!

Fantastic hair cut experience with Yui. I can feel that she’s designing the hair based on my needs and style instead of just do a trendy one. She would discuss the details with me along the process and asked about my personal hair care routine. And she also does illustrations which are super cute.

I came in for a haircut and gloss and had the BEST experience I’ve had at a hair salon in NYC. Takumi was my stylist and they were so gentle and kind with my hair. I had never gotten a gloss before and they went over what it was and I felt confident in them. They kept asking me about the length each time and I find that thoughtful. Also they had a projector playing Gremlins in the background, so vibes were already a 10/10 just from that. I will definitely be back :)

I had a great experience at HKS. I came here based on patron reviews and ratings for a haircut, at the stylist's discretion based on my general interests. My appointment was with Kee, however Tonari assisted. I was met warmly and professionally. My interests were wholeheartedly considered and the outcome was absolutely perfect! I love Yuki/Kee's ability to "see" what needs to be done. I will definitely be returning and sharing my experience with others. Thank you, HKS!

I booked an appointment on the website which was pretty easy. My appointment was yesterday, and it was with Mr. Yuki Kee, and another staff supported him. I did a lot of things (haircut, hair color, double care, etc.). This was my first time changing my hair color so I would say Mr. Kee and HKS did a great job on that. I really like my new hair, and I may visit the salon again in the future. The salon is in fact hidden according to its name since I literally walked pass it several times and I was late, but luckily that everyone was nice, and friendly. I also got a few stickers of Mr. Kee which were really cute, and the gift was great as well 🥰

I came in for a deep treatment and haircut. I had super long hair, a dry scalp, tons of volume, and straight Asian hair so I was concerned about multiple things. But immediately from the start, Kee and Ryoma did an amazing job! Completely made me feel at home, especially with the ambiance and the deep treatment massage. I also asked for curtain bangs and a lighter hairstyle for an upcoming photoshoot, and Kee delivered! Super happy with the result.

I came in requesting a summer cut for my thick coarse frizzy hair which is dying from the humidity. I had been embarrassed to wear my hair down for over a month.. did not have any inspiration, just wanted it gone. In an hour, I came out with a lightweight, beautiful and stylish haircut by Takumi. I've just had my haircut by Takumi and I am very pleased with his work. I find my hair difficult to work with because of how coarse and thick it is and Takumi gave me the right cut to make it neat and manageable, but also cute, and stylized. He was very attentive and focused while cutting my hair. This is my first time at HKS and I am very impressed. I would love to come back. Thank you!

It was my first time and I was quite disappointed especially after reading All the positive reviews. The skills of the "stylist" felt more like an apprentice. It was pretty much just cutting some lengths off (which I could do it myself ) and no styling at all. That being said, the salon is extremely neat, clean and both the stylist and the shampoo guy are very sweet and courteous.

I was recommended this salon by a trusted friend, and they delivered. This is a professional Japanese salon with a chill vibe and atmosphere despite being so close to Times Square. I had my haircut by Yuki. I didn't know exactly what I wanted but I gave him a basic description of how long I wanted it and he pulled up a picture on his phone of a hair style that looked good, then we were off to the races. I'm very happy with how it turned out, the professional nature of the staff and the price. A+ would recommend.

They are great! I have long, thick, wavy & layered hair that was losing its shape. They did an excellent job trimming split ends, adding shape back in, and preserving the length of my hair. Will definitely be coming back here!

I really didn’t want to write this review because the staff was so nice. But If you have thicker or south asian hair, I would suggest get a hair cut elsewhere. the stylist did a great job with the hair dye and hair cut until he said he wanted to thin it out a bit because my hair volume was thicker. I said ok, just a bit, but then proceeded to thin out 50% of my hair. I honestly wanted to cry after I left. The appointment was going so well until then. I’m not sure how long it will take to get my volume back and my hair doesn’t look bad but i feel like I just lost the beauty of my thick wavy hair and now it’s thin and flat. if you do decide to check them out, I would suggest not letting them thin out your hair at all. Hair dye and hair cut otherwise was good. I’m sad I had this experience, I wish I had said no to the thinning :(

I've been going to a korean hair salon for 20 years when I lived in Chicago, but I wanted to find a japanese hair salon once I moved to nyc. my first appointment was with Yui 2 years ago, and I've only been going to her since then. I literally refused to get a haircut while she was on maternity leave, and my hair got so long. I'm so happy with the outcome each time she cuts my hair. whether I explain it in words or show her an inspo pic, she does exactly how I want it.

100% recommend. Of all the Japanese salons I have frequented in the past decade, never has one been as perfectly precise in delivering the haircut I envisioned and described as Takumi-san. Just outstanding, 11/10.

True Japanese style salon.. transports you to Tokyo. I am so glad that I went here.. Yuki San is true professional and gave me a cut exactly like how I asked for . Looking forward to get my Japanese straightening done soon. I would recommend a visit. They offer cut, color , perming, , Japanese straightening and olaplaex services..

Wonderful place - great vibe and energy. Very peaceful and relaxing. Good music and excellent attention to detail from everyone. Very soothing wash and haircut. You won’t feel rushed and every step of the process feels purposeful. Such a pleasant demeanor and atmosphere - and a great haircut! Accommodating and thoughtful stylists. My stylist was Misa. Forgot the name of the person who washed my hair - she was also excellent.
