The most horrible experience I've ever had. The guy cutting my hair was rushing me so much after I corrected him on the style of the cut and he ended up yelling at me. He was doing a horrible job, and now it's my fault for not liking it and asking him to correct it after he botched my hair?? It's so disappointing because I've been to this salon for five times over the years and now I won't be returning.

I wanted to support this local business. But they made it difficult even to book an appointment. She just hanged up on me without taking note of my appointment when I said yes , I could make it at your available time. Oh well, I guess I have to pass this one and look for another.

I went here for a simple hair cut (I brought a picture as a reference on how I would like my hair to be). The result was satisfactory and good.

They got bleach on my shirt. Also demanded tip afterwards, while arguing that it was my fault for sitting in the back of their chair. While the hair coloring was good, the lady’s attitude leads me to not recommend this place.

I went to this salon all the time but in fewer time my colors of my hairs not what I like ,this is the last time of all … its tooks 5 hours they keep redo a color in my hairs in three time because when I came in . I given them a picture of the colors that wanted. I asked them can you do it? They all said yes they can . First time come out with orange colors that I didn’t ask for it . Second time still orange 3 and 4 time is finally getting better but it’s like 4,5 different colors in my hairs it’s makes my hairs all to drying after all redo a colors to many time . I won’t be back for sure also they charge me almost 500$ it’s ripped off and working on my hair for 6 hours. Don’t go there it’s wasted your money they will rip you off for sure . When I came home 3 days later the colors come back to orange. I work in customer service. People are makes fun of me because of my hair 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🙂

Feng was my go to person for 2 years while I lived in the area. I get haircuts every 2-3 weeks and he nailed my cut every single time. Didn’t need a photo, just saw me, asked me for the usual, and gave me the perfect cut I needed every time. Great value for the attention to detail. They’ve gotten busy recently so make sure you call to schedule an appointment early in advance.

Hands down best barber in Pittsburgh, at least for Chinese. Been using them since they were open in 2017. Know exactly what hair style looks better on me and always did a good job. They are kinda short staffed so expect to wait beyond your reservation.

I appreciate the promptness I received as a walk in. I appreciate the owner Feng knows how to cut Asian hair better than many American salons. He cut to desired length, thinned bottoms to add body above, added face-framing long layers, blew out, refined the layers again, and then shortened bangs with fine scissors. I loved the attention to detail. Cost $40. This is reasonable for Pittsburgh. Highly recommend if you have Asian hair, and need a quick haircut and don't have time to book ahead with your regular stylist. And another barber cut my 2 teen boys and they both liked their fade. Cost $30 for each son. Remember to bring cash cause its more if you use credit card. Be forewarned this business awkwardly does ask for a tip. Lastly this place is also great because it is located in heart of Pittsburgh's best authentic Chinese food.

I only did haircut there at around year 2022. The person forced me to pay tip. This is not mentioned before the appointment. A bad experience with tip culture. Also bad haircut.

TLDR: this place has medieval and discriminatory views on gender. They insist on charging a woman with very short hair (a fade in need of a trim) a higher price for the exact same haircut and treatment on a man. Also quite rude. Avoid. I’m a Chinese American woman and generally rock a short “men’s fade.” I live in Seattle but have plenty of friends and family in Pittsburgh. I have a kickass barber in Seattle but decided to give Instyle a call since I was here and looking for a place that could cut Asian hair. They get one star for agreeing to accommodate a last minute walk-in. When I arrived, the receptionist could not be less bothered. After three verbal nudges from a nearby barber cutting a man's hair, the receptionist asked if I had an appointment. I said that I had called earlier, and he waved me to a woman. I asked if I could have then "men's haircut", which was cheaper than the "women's haircut," and she said no, then asked a man who seemed to be the owner in Chinese. The owner said no. I clarified in Chinese that I wanted the exact same haircut (short fade) as the male client in the chair, gesturing towards him. The answer was still no, and I said then I would not be getting my hair cut there. I asked him why, in Chinese - he said I was a woman so I would be charged more (for the exact same haircut). The general attitude was dismissive. I've told all my Chinese family and friends in Pittsburgh to avoid this place until prices are charged by haircut time/style and not by gender. If a man with long hair wanted a haircut I doubt they would be charged the "man's price". It's 2023. A salon that keeps antiquated and discriminatory pricing practices like this will be left in the dust. Unfortunately gender based pricing is only illegal in NYC (2020 women's agenda ordinance, enforced by NYDCA) and California (Unruh Act) - however, it's irrelevant what "everyone else" is doing, it's irrelevant what's "standard procedure." If a practice is unfair, it's unfair. I found an interesting comment from "TrashPandaPatronus" on reddit that I think makes a fair argument: "she ordered the man's haircut, the stylist should be able to fill that order regardless of her genitals. If there was a restaurant that sold hamburgers for $5 and cheeseburgers for $10 but women were only allowed to order cheeseburgers even if they ask for no cheese that would be ludicrous - the chef knows full well they're making a hamburger."
