I travel all the way from Brooklyn to Harlem JUST have the ladies at Jamilah Beauty Studio braid my hair. The customer service, cleanliness of the salon, and the consistent outcome of my hair is that good. This is maybe my 4th or 5th visit to this salon and I don’t see myself going anywhere else. I’ve also tried hair braiding salons closer to me and nothing has compared. I always find my back to Jamilah Beauty Studio.

Jele did an amazing job with my braids! She was gentle and attentive, taking the time to ask about my preferred parting and reviewing my booking details before getting started. Despite working quickly, I never felt rushed. I’ll definitely be returning!

This is THE braiding studio NYC! I will not be going anywhere else! Fatou gave me EXACTLY what I asked for, now I have flawless wedding day hair. Thank you for a great experience and amazing attention to detail. I absolutely love my braids!

First time at jamilahs to get medium senegalese twist. My appt was for 2pm I was called at 1120 am and was asked to come at 230 pm I agreed. I got there 235pm & was told I had to wait 30 min bc the stylist Thiara G was not done with her client. I asked the receptionist that called me why didnt she just tell me to come at 3pm. She said that Thiara told her 230pm at 320pm is when I was seated ,at this point im extremely annoyed because of the almost one hour wait which was a big inconvenience for me . Thiara proceeds to twist my hair 3 twists mirror is in front of me I got up to look in the mirror because the size was too small as I had requested medium. Im looking at the twists my hair is completely out of the twist very noticeable as my hair color is 350 & I was getting jet black all three twists was size small not neat sloppy wrong size. I asked for owner to the receptionist as Thiara didnt speak english I was told owner was out of the country. I began showing the receptionist the twists & asking why does it look like this clearly Thiara did not know how to do this style and the fact if I didnt check she would have continued twisting wrong size incorrect & sloppy . Couple of women in the salon began speaking in their language that I did not understand after about 15 min of jus standing there & waiting for owner to call in I decided that I no longer wanted the style. I was completely dissastified and uncomfortable with the unprofessionalism and twisting quality of the stylist. I was offered by receptionist to have her take the twists out & redo but I refused bc the energy from stylist was very nasty and it seems like she really didnt think she did anything wrong. (the receptionist had to keep showing her & explaining to her the mistakes from the pictures I took on my phone). I requested my deposit back which took almost another 30 mins as well bc receptionist did not know how to process refund and had to be guided from owner. The owner Dior who I finally spoke to was also rude almost 2 hrs in this establishment waste of my time NEVER AGAIN! & I traveled from far to this place .I do not recommend this establishment

First time at this salon and would return. Jele was my stylist and she did a beautiful job. We briefly confirmed what I wanted, did an example braid, changed it up a little and it came out wonderful. I didn’t get a complicated style just medium/large knotless but she clearly cares about her work and was very detailed throughout. I left 10min sooner than the estimated time which was very appreciated. I think the pricing is reasonable for what I received. I was excited to see they offered a wash and blow for an additional charge on the website since many salons dont offer this at all — but I will likely not pay for that again. It wasn’t that thorough of a wash, she didn’t really scrub my scalp and I could’ve done a much better job myself. Thankfully I had just washed a few days ago so my hair wasn’t that dirty. But it’s nice to have the option. Again big shout out to Jele. I attempted to leave a tip when I paid but when I got my emailed receipt it included a credit on my account…so I’m assuming they don’t accept tips?? I guess the girl at the front didn’t know but wish I could’ve just kept that cash instead of getting a credit. But I plan to return so I don’t mind.

I love Jamilah beauty studio! Customer service is always top tier. Everyone is so nice and attentive. They always answer my questions and help with my color choices. I always come out looking good with any style from knotless braids, weaves ,wigs, locs, bun , short boho braids , cornrows, etc.

I do want to sincerely apologize for a previous review with the assumption I got sick from my visit here- I shouldn’t have put that out! This is still a great business and like I said before, their work is good. I would still clarify the price before going into the service, and I would’ve liked to get shade #2 instead of the #1b that I believe I got.

I've been a loyal customer since this shop opened, and I’ve always been pleased with my hair. The excellent customer service, clean salon and professional staff keep me coming back. The braiders are incredibly friendly. I got my braids done on July 21st, and it is now September 4th, they're still looking great.🥰 Thank you Jamilahbeautystudio

I’m highly upset hasn’t even been a month since I got my hair done. I wasn’t going to leave a review but after my hair falling out today I had to. First, let me say I paid for washed hair and I didn’t get that I had to wash my braids with acv just three days later. The Braider braided my hair so tight I had bumps in the front and back of my head. They gave me small fake knotless braids when I asked for medium knotless box braids. My braid length was super uneven and the boxes different sizes. The braids are super fussy and have been since week one. And FOR TODAY I LOST A BRAID WITH MY HAIR 😡 ATTACHED!!! Please book carefully when dealing with these shops they are charging lots of money for too many mishaps. NOW I HAVE A BALD SPOT RIGHT ON MY HAIRLINE SMFH. This is not ok and to think I tipped her with my hard earn money.

I’ve visited Jamilah Studio several times for various braiding styles, and I’ve never been disappointed with the service or the final result. The braiders are always friendly and professional, creating a welcoming environment that I truly appreciate. The shop is well-maintained, and everyone is incredibly attentive. Jamilah Beauty Studio was an amazing experience! The ladies who work there are incredibly friendly and patient. I mistakenly thought it was a walk-in service and didn’t set an appointment, but please DON'T make the same mistake—set an appointment if you want to be seen right away. Thankfully, they still accommodated me, and I got boho braids. I've been hiking and attended two weddings, and my braids have held up beautifully. I'm thoroughly enjoying them and will definitely be returning to this safe haven of sisterhood!

Jamilah’s Beauty Studio has earned a lifelong customer! I recently had an appointment for Medium Knotless Boho braids with Flora, and I’m thrilled to say she exceeded my expectations. The booking process was easy but impressively thorough, with their Instagram page offering plenty of helpful resources to guide you before booking. From the start, the experience was seamless, with prompt and accommodating communication from the studio—something I truly appreciated. My appointment began on time, and Flora’s gentle yet detailed approach to each braid was remarkable. What stood out was how comfortable my braids were; I could easily style them into a bun or ponytail without any discomfort right after they were done, which is rare for me. A week later, after a trip to Jamaica, including time spent in the pool and at the beach, my braids still look flawless. I was looking for the salon experience, great customer service but that wasn’t the environment. Which now leads me to believe they are overpriced. It’s literally the same experience if you would walk in all the other braiding shops that does the any style or length for $180 special…same experience just more expensive. I was in pain from the blow-drying I feel like that was the person’s first time blow-drying someone’s hair…anyone that deals with natural hair knows you should part it and blow dry it…not just rake the blow dryer comb through it and my stylist clearly didn’t want to be there and was ready to go. Even after all that I still tipped my stylist but I won’t be back.

I’ve gone here 3 times now and there are quite a few pros and cons that amount to it being very middle of the road for me Pros: Easy to locate and get to Fairly reasonable prices Hair always comes out looking great Employees are nice Cons: They have no respect for your time. Add at least an hour into how long you expect to be there It’s hard to communicate with the people doing the work because most of them speak extremely limited English They ask for all payments in cash but never seem to have appropriate change for customers Not particularly clean (first appt of the day and already hair and trash all over the floor) It’s fine enough but honestly if I found another good place to get my braids done, I wouldn’t go back here.

I've been here before to get my hair braided and never had an issue because this is their specialty. To switch things up for a protective style I went in for a sew-in with a closure. The first time, was a fail because the stylist glued the lace to my forehead which I didn't even notice because of the dim lighting in the room. After reaching out to the owner, I requested a redo which was granted and this time asked the stylist not use glue but to just sew the closure down. This was once again a fail because the lace closure was cut too short and would not stay put so the band method was used. The stylist tied the knot on for the band so tight I started to get a headache later that night and was in severe pain the next day. Save your money and your time with professionals who know what they're doing. After two weeks, my skin is still healing from this trauma.

I’ve been coming here for the last 10 months and I’ve had good experiences. I didn’t mind the price because the work was good and experience was seamless. However, my last experience here has me feeling conflicted. I booked for medium waist length knotless boho braids. Braiding hair 27/613 & boho hair 613. When I arrived there was no 613 boho hair. Plus, they were now organizing the hair so it took an hour before I began. My braider was also rude and standoffish. She braided my hair in a larger size and eventually I believe the boss/shop owner asked if I wanted her to re-do it. I didn’t mind the size and said to keep it because it would’ve taken up too much time and the braider already seemed annoyed by me. The middle part in my hair was way, way off. Not centered and not in the middle at all. The boho hair is dropping out every 5 mins (this hasn’t happened to me before). So all in all, I feel like I spent a lot of money for a subpar hair style that is already looking terrible a week in. For the amount of money, it doesn’t feel good. I do want to give this place one more try, but maybe I need to specifically request a different braider.

My daughter loved her medium knotless waist length braids. Staff so professional and helpful. Especially Ada who gave me some wonderful ideas for my daughter’s prom. We will return. Highly recommend!

I have been a faithful customer of this hair braiding shop for more than two years, and I have always been satisfied with the quality of their work. Even though their prices are higher compared to other places, I never minded paying extra because the results were worth it. But lately, I have been experiencing disappointments. I paid over $350 for waist-length small Fulani braids in the front and knotless braids in the back. Unfortunately, the braids turned out uneven, with some being the correct small size and others medium-sized. My hair started coming out of the braids the very next day after I got them done. I tried to contact them for two weeks, and after a long wait, I finally got an appointment to come back and have them corrected. To be fair to them, when they finally responded and they did apologize for the quality of the braids. The braider's attitude was also unnecessary the first time when I pointed out that the size and color I requested were not what was being done. She asked if I wanted her to stop and I told her I just wanted the size and color I wanted. She then told me that I was looking in the mirror while she was braiding and that if I kept looking in the mirror, she could stop if I wanted her too. It was passive-aggressive because why wouldn't I look to ensure I was getting what I wanted, especially with the first few braids being the wrong color and size? After I complained about the first braids not being what I requested, she finally stopped to mix the color but left the braids with the wrong color. It was a terrible experience to get what I booked an appointment for, and I had never had that issue before. The second time around, they did a terrible job, leaving even more of my own hair out of the braids, even though I had requested them to braid all my hair. Several people came into the shop to complain about braids falling apart within a day or two of installation. One customer was even told that she could not get the braids she wanted, and when she declined and requested a refund, they told her no because she did not send pictures of her hair in advance. She showed that she did email the pictures based on the required forms they send after booking, but still had to wait nearly 10 minutes for them to tell her they would process a refund in a week. As someone who has been a loyal customer for over two years, I am disappointed with the recent quality of service.
