This will be a long review, and I’m hoping to do so with great care and consideration. While I am leaving a 1-star review, I want to first communicate that the stylist I had was warm, friendly, and overall did the best she could. And I want to be honest. Two weeks before myself and my daughter’s visit to the salon, I called to touch basis with the stylist. I let her know what products we were using, our current regimen, and our hair type. She (along with her bio) assured me that she had experience with working with textured/“ethnic” African American hair. I took my daughter (8) to the salon with me to get a kids haircut, blow dry and a flat iron. I received the same services, plus a single process color. I understand that many Black cosmetologists have felt increased pressures in recent years, since the boom of YouTube “natural hair” influencers have greatly impacted Black hair styling/care culture. I wanted to maintain a stance that I respect the professional aspect of studying the science of hair and did not want the stylist to feel micromanaged or uncomfortable. I would ask questions about the products used, and wanted to know about the overall health of my scalp and hair. While the stylist had a wonderful personality, I do not think she is particularly skilled at doing hair. She used copious amounts of “pressing wax” in my daughter’s hair and did not properly blow dry prior to flat ironing. I sat close, observing, and asking questions, noting to her when I noticed she did something, such as use a leave in conditioner that clearly says on the back to rinse out after 5 mins. I asked about the temperature on the flat iron, and it was low enough that I didn’t worry about heat damage, though she did several passes on my and my daughter’s hair. My daughter loved her experience and felt fancy going to the salon and I did not want to strip her of that in the moment. But I KNEW I would have to redo her hair. I also had a very itchy scalp, noticed dirty tools and had thick black residue under my nails when I scratched from the dye that wasn’t completely rinsed out. I came home to examine our hair and my daughter had globs of pressing wax, with roots that had started to revert just 3 hours later. I opted to wash her hair all over again because it looked terrible. I STILL feel the oiliness of the wax in her hair even after using a clarifying shampoo, and it probably will come out with our next wash. I rewatched and trimmed my own ends too. If anything, this experience has taught me that I am doing a pretty good job of caring for my and my daughter’s hair at home. I wanted to have a good experience with my daughter and have a break from styling our hair. I do not think anything was done with any ill intent—our stylist had wonderful behind the chair mannerism and did the best she could. I just wanted to leave this review to encourage more training, and practice of basic skills so that the outcome can be better. It isn’t cheap to go to a salon, so it is worth it to make sure that stylists are aware of how they are actually doing.

Been coming to JCPenney salon for years, specifically to see Nasrin. She is truly the best at what she does! My eyebrows always look great after seeing her. Plus, all the employees are super friendly and very professional everytime I've been there. Highly recommend Nasrin and just this salon in general 👌

I don't recommend JCPenney hair salon. They charge different prices every time you go in. I was getting my hair done by Nasrin at first. This last time I went to see Bobby I asked him to dye my hair the same as my roots a dark brown with gray. He dyed my hair a light gray. I paid almost 400 for my hair to go back to it's original color which is blonde. This was just a waste of money. I spoke to the manager Dustin. He said because it's been more than 5 weeks they couldn't redo or give me my money back. I was not aware of such policy. Customer beware there so many other hair salons that won't charge you arm and a leg for dye that washes out.

I told the girl who cut and dyed my hair that I had been gradually lightening it over the last 3 years because I was getting grays and the light color helps to hide them. So she dyed my hair the same color as my roots (dark brown). Then she gave me a haircut like I was sleeping with her boyfriend. THANKS A LOT!!

A follow-up for the previous post. Finally, a credit of $75.00 was received. However, the salon manager or the general manager could not explain the remaining charges. I have visited and has had services at JCPenney salons all over the country. This salon has significantly impacted the thought of visiting another one. The ethic of business practice for this location: 2/10! FEEDBACK: Stay Away! I would not recommend this JCPenney location. Go to Paul Mitchell Hair School! It will take some time and patience because it is a school. The prices are reasonable, and the students demonstrates the ability to do great work!.

Booked an appointment with Nasrin, “senior stylist”… For all the recognition she’s achieved, I am certainly not sure how. She very confidently gave me THE worst haircut I’ve ever had in my whole life and I have been to many great and many very, very bad stylists before, so I say this with certainty. This bad haircut tops them all. She cut my hair shorter than I asked for, it was incredibly choppy and uneven, one side was longer than the other, and the layers were so uneven and had huge wide gaps between them. If she had not told me of her couple decades of “experience” I would have thought she simply has none. Highly disappointed at this expensive and embarrassing haircut, especially since I have to go find another salon and stylist to fix this mess and pray it is salvageable. Would rate it 0 star experience if I could. But I’ll give attribute the one star for friendliness. The staff are all pretty friendly over there. I’ll give them that, but that’s about all. Good luck.

Nasrin Safari is definitely a “Master Stylist!” She has been graciously cutting, styling my hair & waxing my eyebrows for the past 16 years. She’s amazing with all her knowledge & tools. I would highly recommend her if you want any service done there. She always looks & acts professional. I always get compliments on how beautiful my hair is.

Was able to get appointment to get my wig with extensions recurled/styled for my Dads 85th bday. It is a little pricey. But they truly do offer it "all" when it comes to hair!

I love my hairstylist Evelyon Quito’s she does a GREAT JOB!!! She has the best personality and friendliness. Very knowledgeable and makes you feel confident in what she does. Just came from getting my sons haircut. I went in for the special they have for $12 kids haircut and i specifically told them i was there for that and they said that was fine but after they cut his hair they still charged me $26 plus dollars. Apart from that the lady charging me had big time attitude i don't even know why she gave me and my husband so much attitude. The only good that came from it all was the lady that cut my sons hair was the sweetest. But overall my experience was bad. Don't recommend you cutting your hair here

Lena was my stylist and I can’t express how much I appreciate her patience, skill and hard work. She was so amazing and helped fix the disaster another stylist at a different salon left me with. She talked me through her plan and reassured me throughout the process that she would have my hair looking fabulous. She truly did an amazing job. I will recommend her to all my family and friends and I’m so excited and looking forward to becoming a regular client of hers. She is absolutely worth it.

My stylist Lena did an amazing job! I haven’t been able to get my hair done in over 10 years & I knew since I’m guilty of using box dye it would be a hard time! BUT she did it and it is amazing! She talked me through every thing and reassured me it would be just fine. It was a mother daughter hair day my moms hair came out amazing as well! Definitely will be coming back mid March :) thanks again!

Salon is spacious lots of room great for COVID aware people. Evelyn was my stylist, she had great energy, she listened to me and took the time needed to cut my hair, I did not feel rushed yet she was fast. She masterfully cut my hair, she used a technique rather odd like Edward scissor hands taught her! My hair looks and feels wonderful, free of dead slit ends without going too short plus I love the color!! Thank you Evelyn your the best!

The worst I asked tonya for a A-line and ended up w something so far off from what I asked for I couldn't stop sobbing she chopped so much of my hair off that it couldn't even be fixed my hair is so short I am unable to tie my hair up in a half ponytail I am so embarrassed of how my hair looks i had to pay another 200 for Clip on hair extension then gets in my daughter face yelling at her becuase she felt insulted that we didn't like what she done my hair. I will NEVER go there again! On the other hand my daughter hair looks great

The staff are friendly and professional. I used the app to schedule an appointment and it was so simple. But I really like this salon because my favorite hairdresser works here. His name is Bobby and he is the best. I recommend him and this hair salon.

Wish there was an option for no stars. I honestly think the person who cut my hair did it purposely out of spite. It was the worse cut ever. They do not care for what their customers want. Lesson learned… please- just pay more for your hair.

Booked an appt online and they called me 20 minutes before my appt (I was already on my way) to say they double booked the appt and would have to reschedule. They could have called at least this morning so I could possibly find someone else! The girl that called was nice but it's not professional to call 20 minutes before the appt time and now I'm out of luck! Going on vacation tomorrow and I won't be able to find anyone else before then.

I have been going to Nasrin since 2015, and I absolutely love her as a person and a hair dresser. She does exactly what I ask, and does an amazing job cutting my hair and styling it. I am going to continue being her loyal customer. The salon is clean. The staff are friendly.
