The Best! First time going here, I sent her a pic of what I wanted and she delivered. She is a sweet lady, very fast with detailed work. We watched 2 movies and she was done with my hair lol I will definitely be returning because I love good quality work

I visited Janine Hair Braiding on November 22nd and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the business is very comfortable, and the staff are kind, polite, and accommodating. They made it easy for me to work while getting my hair done by providing outlets to charge my laptop, which I really appreciated. The hair braider started immediately, didn’t take any breaks, and worked efficiently for the entire seven hours it took to complete my style. I was very happy with the final look of my hair when I left. Unfortunately, there were some major downsides to my experience. The braiding was extremely tight, and I didn’t realize how bad it was until the next day when I was in so much pain that I cried. I’ve taken Advil and had my hair braided multiple times in the past, but this was by far the worst experience in terms of discomfort. Over a week later, I still have red bumps along the back of my head and neck, and I’ve been using witch hazel to manage the irritation. I wasn’t able to sleep comfortable for 4 days! I still can’t lay certain ways without pain. Additionally, while the stylist was working on my hair, I kept hearing ripping noises, which I assumed were the fake hair extensions. However, I later realized she was ripping through my natural hair while combing it out, even though my hair was already detangled. I still have bumps and new ones coming in. I’ve tried steaming my scalp as well. While I initially enjoyed my visit, the pain and damage to my hair have left me very disappointed. Sadly, I won’t be returning to this business.!

I have been to this shop three times, but I have only gotten serviced once. My first experience was great. My small knotless braids were beautiful and they helped me find a new color. However, I went back months later with a booked appointment and they did a no call no show. They didn’t offer to help or anything. I had a wedding to attend and I was devastated. I understand life happens so I decided to come back almost a year later. I booked an appointment and when I arrived I had to wait. Once I sat in the chair the lady asked me what hair I was getting and then informed me that they didn’t have the colors I requested. I offered going to buy it and the lady hounded me about how long it would take. So I didn’t get my hair done again. You all have wasted my time not once but twice. You all don’t offer to make the situation better or show a genuine authentic apology. I am all for supporting African businesses, but when you are disrespectful to my time, I cannot turn the other cheek. Do better! Merci beaucoup.

***Update*** The owner reached out personally with an apology and took ownership for the braiders actions. I appreciated the apology more than any refund. It lets me know that they do not condone this behavior. Thank you India to you and your mother for responding so quickly to this! ——————————————————— I am giving 3 stars because overall, they do good work here. I have gone to this shop twice for small, knotless, goddess braids. The first time I had the most amazing experience. The owner did my hair the first time. She has fair prices and her braids lasted forever and she took my suggestions to heart. The second time I went was today. I was given a 10am appointment, but they were backed up when I arrived as a braided called out. My hair was not started until 11:45. This happens so I was not upset with this. When I booked my appointment, I asked for small goddess braids and sent a photo of my hair from the first time. I provided my own hair, and was given a price of $220. When the braider arrived, she asked the size. I told her small, and she checked the sizing with me after she braided the first braid. I asked her if they should be bigger and she said no. She did an amazing job, and worked on hair until 9:30 pm. Once she was done, she asked if I was given a price, and I showed her the text thread I had with the owner that confirmed $220. I fully planned on sending $350 as she worked so hard and did a great job. She then explains that she needs to call the owner because the quote is wrong as the braids are smaller than the last time. She calls the owner and negotiates a larger price. The owner sends me a text with the new amount of $300. This was the problem for me. I was quoted one price, and a new price was never discussed with me over the 11 hour time frame that I was in the shop. It’s unprofessional to say the least. I explained this to the braider, and I also paid the new price of $300. Not only did this braider lose out on a very large tip, but this shop lost out on my future business. I have also referred my friends and family to this shop. They will be missing out on another 5 or so regular clients. They also asked that I tag them in my upcoming wedding photos. They will be losing out on that free advertising as well. It really is a shame as they do beautiful work. I just don’t believe in supporting a business that is not transparent and honest with their customers.

I have been getting my hair braided my whole life. I’ve had several different stylists braid my hair and India is by far the best Braider I’ve ever had! I will never go anywhere else. I get so many compliments and they last so long and look incredible up until I take them out. She is always on point!

My daughter got her first braids here today. India (her stylist) did an amazingly beautiful job! She was an absolute artist and was so sweet and made sure she got exactly what she wanted. My daughter is over the moon happy with her new braids and we will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

India did knotless braids on me and definitely exceeded my expectations! I love that she knew exactly what I wanted and gave me suggestions in order for me to achieve and maintain the look I’m going for. I really appreciate that throughout the appointment she has confirmed with me the braid style and the colors that would match. She instantly made me feel comfortable and the price makes it even better! They really really care about their clients. Highly recommend!

It's been one week since I had micro braids installed and all I can say is the quality of the hair used for my braids is disappointing. I can't even run my fingers thru or attempt to style my hair cause the hair mattes/tangles. I've had micros more times than I could count an never had this issue. I'm upset I wasted 6 plus hours of my time and $200 of my hard earned money. Definitely looking for another shop for future services.

THEY CUT MY REAL HAIR when I went to take my braids off. Now I have a piece of hair on front of my head that is ear length. The said that I did it myself before doing the braids… WILL NEVER GO BACK

Wow! My daughter and I were so impressed w this salon! India and her mom are truly beautiful souls! They treated us both so kindly, something we don’t often experience at salons. My tender headed daughter was extremely grateful for India’s gentle touch, the most gentle she’s ever had! We’ve tried several hair stylists over the years and have had so many painful experiences… her kind and gentle touch and spirit meant the world to us! She was also fast and gave my daughter the exact style and look she hoped for. My daughter looks forward to future styles at this salon! (something she’s never said before)! We highly recommend!!!

I had a retouch done today by way of a recommendation. The shop is in an easy to find location right off McDowell Street. I had the pleasure of getting my hair done by Ms.Kathy. She had great customer service, a quick and neat technique and had a warm motherly vibe about her. I enjoyed her being nice and professional at the same time. During my visit I also interacted with Ms.Jeanine and she was also a delight! I will definitely be back in the future for my braiding needs.

Not only was this service amazing the women were so awesome👏 I sat in a chair watched a movie and laughed and got to know this mother and daughter. They were absolutely so accommodating and so talented at their job it was a pleasure to sit there and get this amazing hairdo by these amazing women and get to know them. Very hard to find a spot that can do great African braiding in Arizona. Not only do they do an amazing job but the service is welcoming and everyone is so pleasant to be around. Sad I have moved from Phoenix as I am missing this place today!
