Choosing JL makeup studio one of the best decisions I made for my wedding! Carolynn did my hair and made changes after our trial to execute exactly what I had in mind. Joy did my makeup and it was beyond perfect. My makeup and hair stayed put the entire night and the whole wedding party got SO many compliments. Not only are they amazing at what they do, but they are so fun and make the day amazing!!! You will not regret choosing them for your special day.

I worked with JL for my wedding party, and we were very happy with their team's professionalism, skill, and flexibility. The bridal package included the option for a trial, which I appreciated. I used the trial session hair & makeup for our engagement photoshoot, which I highly recommend to test drive your hair & makeup. (My hair did not hold a curl at all, so I opted for an updo instead). The JL team also allowed me to schedule a second hair trial when they needed to change my hair stylist due to staffing changes. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with my new wedding hair stylist and try another look. Joy was our primary makeup artist for myself & my wedding party. She was incredibly patient & communicative when I needed to add bridesmaids to the head count for makeup on the wedding day. Joy did a nice job accommodating the range of styles, skin types, and ages in our wedding party, including my mom and mother-i-law. She provided me with an emergency makeup pack for the wedding day, including hairspray, lip gloss, makeup wipes, and bobby pins, so I could touch up throughout the day! This was a really thoughtful touch that reflects the team's experience and professionalism. Ashley was our primary hairstylist, and she was fabulous as well! She is so talented and put together amazing updos and curls for my bridesmaids. I have super fine, straight hair, so I was worried that I would need extensions for the complex updo I wanted. Ashley worked her magic to create a gorgeous updo without extensions. I loved my hair so much and all of my bridesmaid's raved about their hair, one of whom is a professional hair stylist. Be sure to preview their instagram/portfolio beforehand to make sure it fits your style and review the contract carefully for fees. The bridal makeup/hair and wedding party makeup/hair was expensive, but not significantly higher from other vendors in Pittsburgh. If you prefer a full contoured/snatched makeup look, their services seem to err more on the natural/bridal side, so be aware and consider a trial. Overall, I recommend the JL team for their years of experience and professionalism.

Jae and Carolynn are THE BEST!! I got married on an 85-degree day and did hours of pictures outside and my hair and makeup held up perfectly. They are not only incredible at what they do but are so caring and an absolute pleasure to work with.

What a great experience!! I recently worked with JL studio, Ashley in specific, for wedding day hair! JL was recommended to me by my photographer. After submitting an inquiry I got a fast response and was guided through a transparent and easy booking. I then had my hair trial with Ashley. I went in with a rough idea of what I wanted and a few pictures. Ashley was able to bring my whole vision together flawlessly!! We did a high updo that not only looked great but also held up all day! I got so many compliments on it!! In terms of the wedding day, there were 7 of us getting hair done. I was a little worried to only have one person doing hair but Ashley was a power house!! She not only got all of them done on time but she also gave everyone exactly what they wanted!! All the bridesmaids loved their hair and everyones hair held up remarkably well (and I had one of the windiest weddings in history). I cannot recommend them highly enough!

I booked JL Makeup Studio & Beauty Boutique and was assigned Carolynn and let me tell you, SHE IS AWESOME! We clicked instantly at my hair trial so I knew I was in good hands. She is so talented, communicative, and fun to work with. She was able to meet all of mine and my girl's needs on wedding day effortlessly. Not only was Carolynn great, but so was management when booking and planning services! 10/10 recommend!

I had the pleasure of having Carolynn and Moriah do my hair and makeup on 2 separate days. Both days I felt that they blew it out of the park. They are both so talented and well versed in their skill sets that it made it easy to have the best parts of myself highlighted. Not only that but they are both genuine and kind people that made the chaos of the day feel minimal and I truly looked forward having them back on day 2. So not only 5/5 for skill rating but 5/5 for human rating as well.

Working with Carolynn for my wedding was an absolute delight! I genuinely enjoyed getting to know her, and we had so much fun preparing together on the morning of my big day. Her expertise was evident in every detail; she took just a bit of inspiration from me and transformed it into the perfect look. I will say that J&L’s policies were a little frustrating around minimum services and any changes, but the work was great! Just make sure you read the contract thoroughly before signing. Carolynn’s skill and creativity brought my vision to life beautifully. She made the entire process enjoyable and stress-free. I couldn’t have been happier with my hair and am incredibly grateful for her exceptional work. Highly recommend Carolynn for anyone seeking a talented and personable stylist!

I had gotten my hair done by Carolynn for my wedding. I was torn between an up do or wearing it down because of my hair frizzing. We decided to do down because I’m more comfortable with my hair down, she said she was confident in doing it and that it would last me and be okay. Once she had finished, (this was done in an AC conditioned room btw) my hair looked horrible, did not even look like it had been curled and it was so frizzy already. I did not like how it looked so asked to have it up instead and was given attitude and looks like she was annoyed. As a professional hair stylist I feel like you should know how to tame and work with many different hair types. Even with my up-do the framing hair pieces were frizzy. Her back up stylist recurled it and it looked great. No frizz at all. I reached out to the owner to let her know about my experience, she responded with excuses for everything and I was blocked on instagram by the stylist I had a bad experience with. Just seems very unprofessional.

JL Studios are the picture of professionalism, fun, and care!! Hiring them to help make my bridesmaids and family members look and feel their best was the best decision ever! They were efficient, caring, and were so on top of their schedule, we got AN HOUR ahead!!! I’ve never seen anything like it, it was incredible! I’ve been going to JL Studio for 3 years to get blowouts and occasional make-up sessions. I would like to preface this with I’m extremely picky in terms of my hair as I have naturally curly/frizzy hair. I don’t like when stylist use a straightening iron to smooth my hair as it takes away the volume. I’ve been seeing Carolynn since 2018 before she moved to JL Studio and followed her there, even though I’m paying twice as much, because she is beyond talented and the best! She gives the best blowouts without using a straightening iron to tame my frizzy hair and styles it exactly how I like it. You would be lucky to have her as your stylist as she listens, takes constructive feedback well, and will make sure you are happy with your hair. She is never in a rush and takes her time. In terms of make-up application, I’ve worked with Joy and Bri who are both very talented, patient, and most importantly, listen to you. Both were for professional photos and I looked amazing both times while still looking like myself which is very important to me. Jae who does most of the booking works hard to accommodate my availability when booking appointments which I greatly appreciate. JL Studio is all around wonderful to work with and I believe you will not regret using them.

As a bride you reach out to multiple vendors, not only was she one of the first to get back to me but she treated me like I was her only bride & that’s something that stood out the most! She made me feel so comfortable and was very communicative about her process during the hair trial. Come wedding day, hanging out with her made all of the anxiety and nervousness getting ready for a wedding go away! My bridal party was raving about her the entire day and if given the chance, I would love to work with her again! I LOVED my hair on my wedding day and got so many compliments on it!

I honestly could not say enough about Jae and Carolynn!! They were with me from the VERY beginning! Engagement photos, trials, rehearsal dinner, and our wedding day! At some point, it was more like chatting and hanging out with friends. I truly looked forward to the time I got to spend with them! They are also the BEST of the BEST!! I felt so beautiful every time I left their studio. My hair and make up stayed looking amazing with zero touch ups forever! Jae was super informative while doing my make up. She gave me skin care tips to make sure my skin was ready for the wedding day! Jae asked my opinion through the process to make sure I was comfortable and felt my best! Carolynn is so instinctive and a wizard with hair!! Literally my hair has never looked so good or held a style for so long. JL Studio did my hair and makeup for my wedding, and the team did a beautiful job! Carolynn did my hair, and Kara did my makeup. Both were on time, extremely professional, and overall so lovely to work with. I also did a trial with them in advance, and I would highly recommend that to others. We ended up making small tweaks to my look on the day-of, and I’m glad I had the chance to work through that with them. My hair and makeup stayed put all day, and I’m so grateful to them for that!

Moriah did a phenomenal job. I looked exactly the way I wanted, and my makeup still looked perfect at 2 am after rain, tears, and a lot of sweat. She was timely, very pleasant to be around, and she did a great job on my bridesmaids and I. I quite literally couldn't ask for anything more from her because she effortlessly did everything right.

My hair and makeup experience was the easiest and most stress free part of my day! Emma was able to make sure my hair (that doesn't hold curl well) would "fall" in a way that looked perfect throughout the whole wedding night, and Joy took all my critiques throughout the trials to make my day-of makeup flawless! All of the bridesmaids also loved their looks. 10/10 recommend

We had a great experience working with JL make up studio for my wedding - for both hair and make up! Briann did our make up and Dana did our hair, and both were amazing to work with. Everyone asked for something different and they delivered on every look! My bridal hair and make up were exactly what I hoped for! Bri and Dana also did a great job sticking to schedule which made getting ready much more relaxed. It ended up raining on all of us during the ceremony, but you would have never known - All of our hair and make up lasted through the rain and through the end of the night with no touch ups needed! Would recommend to any bride!!

I was so glad these ladies were in charge of hair and makeup on our day of! Leading up to the wedding I got a couple facials at their physical location and my skin looked amazing for the wedding. They were on time, professional, and had plenty of help to get us all ready. We didn’t have to start until 10am and there were 11 people. They had us ready to go for the first look at 2pm! I was so impressed at how efficiently they moved through everyone. Everyone’s hair and makeup was so pretty! My hair stayed in place and held up to the heat and humidity on a 95 degree day in May. They were bright and positive just as you’d hope everyone would be the morning of your wedding. Highly recommend!

She made me feel very comfortable and asked me questions throughout my appointment to make sure that she gave me what I wanted. The original girl I signed a contract with ghosted me 2 months before my wedding, but I’m so glad she did! I contacted JL Makeup Studio and Beauty Boutique thinking there was no way they would be available for my (Memorial Day weekend) wedding but they quickly replied that they were! Shortly after I met Dana for my trial and was blown away. She knew exactly what I wanted and was incredible! And on my wedding day, she made me feel so amazing! My hair held the entire night through dancing, hugging and even a little rain!! I cannot recommend JL Makeup Studio and Beauty Boutique enough!!!!

I contacted JL Makeup Studio back in late September to book for hair and makeup for my baby shower on 11/28, which was during Thanksgiving weekend. Unfortunately, most other studios were closed on holiday weekends and/or Sundays. Joy of JL responded to me quickly and booked my baby shower hair and makeup with Samantha. Samantha reviewed some inspiration pictures I sent ahead of time and did a great job! She was on time and her work exceeded my expectations! I received lots of compliments! Highly recommend this studio and their artists!

Wow! JL Studio did a wonderful job on my makeup for my wedding so I kept them in my regular routine... but for other services! I now get henna on my brows and a lift and tint on my eyelashes. I wouldn’t go anywhere else! It always looks amazing! :)

I cannot recommend JL Makeup Studio enough! For my wedding in October we had Samantha doing our hair and Jae for our makeup. Both women are INCREDIBLE!!! They are so talented and honestly just a great time to be around. I was really nervous going into my hair and makeup trial. I never wear makeup and I'm extremely picky over my hair, plus these were strangers and I didn't know if we would talk or sit in a weird silence, overall just very nervous. I walked in and they made me feel like we had been friends all of our lives. They are the sweetest women, which is wonderful because they are SO good at what they do. My trial went perfect and they really listened to my feedback and made the very minor changes I asked for. The morning of my wedding was honestly one of my favorite memories of the day. They made a morning that could have been filled with stress and nerves turn into hanging out with friends and getting all glammed up. Overall amazing women who are very talented, you won't go wrong booking with anyone on their team.

I WISH I COULD LEAVE 10 STARS FOR MY REVIEW. My wedding was on 9/28 and our makeup was FLAWLESS. Amanda and Ashley made my bridal party, my mother, and myself feel absolutely stunning. These ladies took time to see what each (10) bridesmaids wanted. The attention to detail and killer eyelashes brought us all to tears. Without a doubt I recommend this studio. They were able to do ALL ethnicities (one of the main factors in hiring them). Amanda and Ashley are not just great makeup artist, but great people, thank you for making my perfect day— beautiful.
