I have been getting my hair dyed purple here for three years now. The color purple holds a lot of meaning for me and I knew when I was old enough I would color my hair. Before I started the process, I was worried about hair damage, the color fading, and the possibility of it looking strange with the rest of my hair color. However, once I came to Laura Braunstein Hair Studio, all my doubts went away. I love my purple hair; it has brought me so much joy. My hair looks and is healthy- I feel confident that the dye and technique Tracey used did not jeopardize the health of my hair at all. I can't walk through the city without someone complimenting my hair or asking where I got it done. Not only is my hair purple, but it also blends in nicely with my dark brown hair. The method and style Tracey used is unique to other purple-heads I've seen. It is vibrant without giving a harsh neon appearance. My visit to the salon this May showed how much they care about their clients. Tracey, my stylist, stayed late at the salon when our original appointment time didn't work. It is also very easy to maintain. As long as I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week, the color sticks for about three months. Once I feel like the color needs restoration, I can simply buy the dye (which is not expensive) and retouch it myself. I'll definitely be coming here again!

I paid $200 to hate the way I look. I went there to remove the brassy tone in my hair, and the lady who did my hair said she needed to make the color darker to remove the brassiness. I don't know how she did the formula, but my hair became almost black, and it didn't look charming with my pale face. At first, I thought I was overreacting and needed to get used to the new color. But a few days later, I can't look at myself in the mirror and still hate this color. I was much happier with my brassy box color. Also, if any hairstylist is reading this, please be careful when pulling hair while dyeing; it hurts. Your clients are humans, not mannequins. Despite this, the place is nice and clean.

I scheduled an appointment online with Olivia to have a single process hair color (just the roots) and a hair blowout. I was expecting to pay $120 for both services as advertised online. However to my surprise I was charged $167.20. This sudden and significant price hike is Fraud. It appears to be a case of price gouging. The prices online are there to lure you to the Salon and then they charge you a different price whatever they feel like.

My stylist was a no-show at 11am on a Saturday. Received email confirmation on the appt. After waiting 30 min, I called twice and emailed. No one called me back to explain or apologize. As a working mom, it’s really hard to find the time to color my hair. This was a huge disappointment and rude.

Absolutely ridiculous. Had an appointment for 10am and I got a text message after traveling 30 blocks 10 mins before my appointment that my stylist would be 30 minutes late. I arrived and MY STYLIST was not late she was cutting someone else’s hair. I had a very tight schedule and woke up 2 hours early to get work done so I could make the appointment. Wasn’t offered a discount nothing just told to wait in their small crammed shop. Would have appreciated at least an hour heads up that she would be “late” so I could have switched my schedule around. Really inconsiderate

Beware! I asked for simple highlights and they bleached literally all of my hair! Left the bleach on for over 2 hours. I’ve now got bleach blonde almost white hair which I’ll have to manage and grow out over the next who knows how many years. Haircut was ok, but do not go here for color!!

I came to this studio last February (2021) to do root touch ups, I had a full head of highlights but my hair was very healthy, it was a warm blonde like Blake lovely/Gigi hadid. I walked out with half my hair falling out and platinum blonde. Not highlights. She did not just bleach my roots she bleached all my hair down to my ends. Left the bleach in way too long and I had to remind her several times to wash out the bleach. I paid $450 for this service and still. Still now over a year and a half later my hair is terrible and I’m growing my natural hair putt because I could not keep putting highlight with what had been done to my hair. Go home and shut down your salon

I have been being getting my hair coloring and hair cut by Olivia for over a year now, and she is the BEST!! She is super friendly and very attentive to my hair needs, and she also has a best energy! I have gotten highlights, balayage, root touch-ups and gloss by Olivia. I am always satisfied by her work and leave the salon a very happy customer.

Lies and incompetence from start to finish. First I went for a regular single process/pull-through. I told Gizelle I wanted medium brown. She made it dark brown but said it would lighten. It didn't. When my roots were showing I saw Olivia, and she said she would match the roots with the rest. She left me sitting too long and the roots were a completely different shade. I emailed the salon and they said they would get back to me to schedule a color correction. They didn't; I had to call and email repeatedly. Then they told me I couldn't come in that Sunday. I checked their schedule, and there were available appointments. I asked them again to help me out. I spoke with Tracy, who said they would color correct my whole head, even though during our conversation she kept trying to put words in my mouth. When I came in, she said they would only color correct the roots. I said that wasn't what she said on the phone, and she said I was rude and they weren't going to do anything but refund me for the second experience. So: incompetence? Check. Dishonesty? Check. Rudeness? I guess it's the pot calling the kettle black.

Olivia is my go-to stylist for a great cut and color. I’ve been seeing her for years, and she’s phenomenal! She takes time to understand what you would like and then works with you to get the best results. She’s friendly, professional, attentive, and really great to be around. 10/10 you should book an appointment with Olivia!

I adore Laura Braunstein Hair Studio!! My stylist was Deana, but everyone employed there obviously does amazing work. I made this my go-to salon while I was living in NYC for 2.5 years and I was never disappointed. Not only are they entirely affordable, but their work is comparable to any pricey midtown salon. I've recommended this place to several friends who in turn have also made this their main place to get their hair done.

I am so happy with this salon. For a salon open for COVID, they take safety and cleanliness very seriously. i was so impressed with who the salon handles mask wearing, and COVID protocols. For my last experience, Tracey Gransden went above and beyond what any hairstylist I have know has done. I came in for a hair cut and coloring, and she treated me so well, checking in and making sure things were what I wanted. When the color didn't turn out as we originally expected, she worked with me to reschedule a new appointment and get the hair coloring that I wanted for my hair. The level of dedication, patience, and flexibility was amazing. And my hair looks incredible. If you want to get your hair done, go to this salon. They really care about their customers.

I have gotten my haircut by Olivia twice now and could not be happier! I have curly, kinky hair that I've been straightening chemically for 15 years so it's often difficult to work with because it has different textures. Olivia knew exactly how to handle it, and gave me a great cut, while still allowing me to keep the length. I'm so impressed by how well she blew it dry and styled it - because of the texture it's hard to get the hair straight, but she managed to not only get it straight (without using a flat iron!), but also add volume and a nice wave. The salon is very clean and I felt extremely safe going - everyone had masks and they made sure any customers who entered washed their hands. Overall a super enjoyable experience and a great salon!

I LOVE Olivia! She is fantastic at doing hair color (I'm a natural brunette who goes red) and always leaves me feeling like a movie star. She never pressures me into doing anything I don't want to do (even if maybe I should), and takes care to do not do anything that would damage my hair. 5 stars for Olivia!

Laura was my hairdresser for a few years when I was living in the Upper West Side and she is the best. The salon is stylish and always perfectly clean. Everyone is friendly and I have always been 100% satisfied (and I am picky!). Laura listens to what her clients want but she is also great at making suggestions. I highly recommend her salon!

Tracey gave me an amazing haircut! I was a little indecisive but she was able to talk me through options and it turned out exactly how I wanted! I’m obsessed with my new hair! They’re handling COVID very well, and I love that the haircut cost includes the shampooing/blowout. Will definitely be back! :)

I am never one to leave a bad review for any business, but I was extremely disappointed in my visit here. I was asked to wait in the cold for several minutes when I arrived and then accused of being over 15 minutes late to a 1 pm appointment when it was 1:14 - after waiting in the cold like I was asked to. I was then ignored for over 30 minutes and then when I asked to be rescheduled, they expressed zero concern. At that point I walked out and will not return.

I swear there's no place better! Laura is magic! She entertains your hair fantasies then brings you back to a beautiful reality! I travel from out of state to get my hair cut.. but right now frustrated from not being able to get there!! As soon as it's safe I'm on my way there!!
