I’ve been going here for 15 years . They can do everything natural hair ! I love the family aspect of the shop and how it feels homey. They stay true to their culture and do everything they need accomplish your loc needs and styles. My hair has been flourishing ever since I’ve started my locs with them . A Special Thank you to Kay for always making my hair feel renewed.

I had an appointment today at Locs of Royalty for 11a.m. Got there a few minutes early and was told Kay (the owner) is coming and to have a seat. A few minutes later Kay came in and asked me what style I would like, and I showed her. Then she says the stylist that is going to do your hair is coming and that she (Kay) will wash my hair in the meantime. 40 minutes after the wash was done, a lady who is a walk-in enters. Kay proceeds to call her, has her sit in a stylist chair and starts twisting her locs while my locs are dripping wet. It is now 12p.m. and my assigned stylist still hasn’t arrived. I asked Kay what time the stylist was coming, and I guess they called her, but no one said a thing to me. I let a few minutes pass and asked again and was told they called her and got no answer-- only knew that after asking a 3rd time. Mind you, I am already pissed off for the lack of respect for my time and communication. Kay asked me to give her 2 more minutes; I gave 4 and was done. I asked how much to pay for the wash so I could leave. I was told by Kay I do not need to pay and she helped take the towel and cape off, and I left. It was my first time going there and the experience was horrible. My time was wasted, I feel disrespected, and overall, professionalism was absent. It seems that if you are not a regular client they could care less about your business. I will never go there again.

I’ve been coming to Locs of royalty for quite some time, it’s been a year and change now. The ladies there are nothing but welcoming and understanding when I’m running late for my appointments or want to make changes. And the prices are very reasonable compared to some other places I’ve been to. I always walk out knowing I look good and feeling exactly that. The young WOMAN mentioned in the review in my pictures has been my stylist and she is very respectful and always professional and polite. The day she did this reviewers hair I sat next to her in the neighboring station. I understood your initial frustration with the lack of communication especially with you being pregnant but after you spoke to her mother and she explained the situation, the young woman asked me if she could put your color in since I was under the dryer and your booked appointment time was 11:00(which you were late for anyway). I told her it was fine and she did her best to accommodate you giving the circumstances, and she was very polite to you . However you were the complete opposite you kept talking down about black businesses and tried to belittle her since she’s a young stylist. She maintained her professionalism even after you said you were unhappy with how your color came out(even though it looked black to me) . And due to you being pregnant instead of redoing it she offered to add a rinse, and after the rinse you were still unhappy there was honestly nothing else she could’ve done in my opinion. You were told you didn’t have to pay for the color since you were unhappy and would only have to pay for your retwist, and still yet your attitude didn’t change. I usually stay a little after and chat, but I left as soon as my hair was done, as I couldn’t take your demeanor. Word of advice it pays to be kind. A full head of color takes time no matter what type of hair a person has. Also everyone’s hair isn’t the same, some people’s hair needs a lil extra love in order to get it right, and for locs they can’t just take a test piece of your hair like many white hairstylist do. I personally have stubborn greys that I’ve always had trouble coloring no matter where I get my color done. And they are always given the love they need at Locs of Royalty. Another thing if you went to a white owned business a full head permanent color can range from $100-$500 which wasn’t the price at the establishment. It was a mere $60-$80 add on fee for full head color, which you didn’t even have to pay. I hope you don’t go back because the way you treated that young lady was very unbecoming, and a poor representation of how older women should behave towards younger generations. I also hope you take the things I said into consideration and have a blessed one with your upcoming bundle of joy. Lastly, if anyone reads the previous review understand there are always two sides to a story, and sometimes people will tell their side with half truths and embellished stories.Also don’t be afraid to come to locs of Royalty I love it there

Thank God I found this shop. I never felt my scalp being wash this great before. Amazing customer service and best place I have ever done my locs . Came from the Bronx and I’m definitely going back there.

I am extremely disappointed with the service at this salon. I really want to support Black businesses, so I gave them a second chance which was a mistake. Right now, after this second appointment, I have to look at my hair in the mirror EVERY DAY and see a color that isn’t what I asked for. Instead of black, it’s an unnatural brown/orange tint, almost auburn color in the light. Now, I have to find a new salon and spend over $150 to get it fixed because the twists need to be taken out for the color, when this style should have lasted me for months. The color is insane—it’s not black, and I have never had it in my life. My natural hair color isn’t even close to this. Last year, they messed up my hair color, and I had to spend six to seven hours there for it to be fixed, with the stylist/owner arriving an hour and a half late. This time, I booked my appointment online (a booking fee, and when I arrived, they acted like I was crazy for expecting the stylist I had BOOKED ON THEIR WEBSITE, who wasn’t there due to an “emergency”. They told me she had been out for a while, which was baffling because I had been communicating via text with who I thought was her for several days. They had more than enough time to inform me she wouldn’t be available, but they didn’t. The communication was terrible. I demanded the owner/stylist I booked be put on the phone, and she assured me over the phone that another stylist, a young girl, who happened to be the owner's “daughter”, would do my hair. Despite explaining my previous issues and concerns, my hair still wasn’t colored correctly. The staff was unorganized, and the prices seemed arbitrary. They offered me a free color correction for next time, but this didn’t compensate for the wasted money and time on a style that needed to be redone. When I asked for a breakdown of the charges, they couldn’t provide a clear itemized receipt. They just adjusted the prices based on previous payments and acted like they were giving me a discount, which was absurd. Their website needs serious updates to reflect accurate appointment times, emergencies, and stylist availability. During BOTH visits, I spent about six to seven hours in the salon. The first time, because the stylist showed up an hour and a half late, I had to leave to get food because she wasn’t there be I was starving, I left and came back - SHE STILL HADN’T ARRIVED.. This time, I had to order food to be delivered to the salon because it was taking so long. I arrived at 11:30 AM and didn’t leave until almost 6 PM. Being pregnant, this was so exhausting and unacceptable. I wasted my money, and their offer to redo the color for free was impractical. Again, it meant I would have to pay over $150 again to get the style redone after the color correction. They should have taken accountability and asked me to come back another day to redo my hair on them. This experience was completely unprofessional and disorganized. It’s really sad because like I genuinely want to support Black businesses - this ain’t it! I won’t be returning to this salon.

First time visiting Locs of Royalty and i promise it wont be the last. The energy was right, everyone polite and professional. And finally i love my hair. My son called me "young ting" all evening. P.S. i am not old but you know these teens. Thanky again. Looking forward to my next visit.

I randomly called and its the best decision I made for my hair the service is excellent the atmosphere peaceful and the owner and staff wonderful… Thank you for accepting a walk-in and me leaving the other place that had me waiting over a hour and I made an appointment with them don’t understand. Thank you for saving the day I recommend anyone that have Locs want to start Locs and all natural products no build up 😍😍. Locs Of Royalty thank you 🙏🏾

I've been coming to see kay since my original loctician cancelled my hair appointment two days before my wedding. It's been 5 years and I'm grateful for the referral. Kay is professional and consistent. She does great styles at reasonable prices.

Ive been reaching out since April it is now September. I understand if they are booked but communication is key no one ever responds. Thats not at all a way to run business. If you look at their instagram it looks like they have “favorites” I guess those are the people who get response.
