I have stayed at LAAC many times and have always been pleased with accommodations. I had booked a Deluxe King room for 5 days while in town on business. I am familiar with the room sizes, so upon check in, I told the clerk that I wanted a large room. Not a suite but one of the larger rooms. The room he assigned me was just big enough for the queen bed, there was white stuff smeared on the walls, the shower was moldy, there was hair on the bathroom walls, the heater made gurgling noise all night and barely got the room warm. I complained to the same clerk the following morning that the room was far from the Deluxe room I paid for and he immediately reassigned me to a much bigger and better room....that I should have been assigned to in the first place. I asked for the manger to contact me to be compensated for being assigned to wrong room on my first night but I have yet to hear from them. The LAAC has always been my favorite downtown LA hotel. I love it's history, decor and obscurity. On recent trips however, I have noticed an odor in the elevators, hallways and some rooms. They would be wise to invest in better cleaning chemicals, frequent rug cleanings and air fresheners. I may stay there again in hopes that it has improved but this last trip was very disappointing.

Great amenities.

The central location is great--two blocks from metro. The gym and spa are the best in Los Angeles in my opinion. Having the lounge on the 3rd floor makes is easy for two guest to have separate spaces to read, work on the computer and generally relax. The front desk staff are helpful, friendly and professional.

In all honesty, this was going to be a one star review. I have been staying here at the Los Angeles athletic club since Sunday evening. I have stayed in their single queen and their king room as well as their suite and I also got two double queen rooms that were connecting for my family for one night so I’ve been here a lot plus, I am a member with a long history of loyalty to the athletic club so let me explain why I was very disappointed initially I was having a very hard time getting connecting rooms for the double queens None of the representatives at the front desk were helping me and I need them connected because I have little siblings that need to be close to my parents. I was getting nowhere with the annoying people there at the front desk until Melissa a charming young woman took command and literally through the annoying gentleman to the side approved, connecting rooms for my family. It was just amazing because in her mind as well as mine, it was that easy for a loyal member get it done and that’s what she did After that initial snafu. Everything was smooth sailing until this morning. There was another altercation with the same annoying staff they were unable to put the hold on my card, even though in my bank, it shows that they kept taking it out over and over again it never showed in their system, so by the end of trying to check in my family I had over $1000 and hold for no reason and has anybody who stays in downtown Los Angeles knows you need that money in your debit card so you can go do things without having to transfer funds or God forbid having no funds on top of that that gentleman had removed the connecting rooms But like last time here comes Melissa to the rescue once again throws this annoying gentleman aside puts in the connecting rooms by forcibly, putting a cold or something to override his to be honest I don’t know. I was just stunned in amazement and promised that she would correct the hold by checkout. The facilities and rooms were amazing. The restaurants were gorgeous and was live entertainment plus a comedian on the final night so I guess what I’m saying is Melissa saved your guys ass thank you so much Melissa. I hope they make you manager of the front desk end of hotel coordination the way you handled yourself with authority And speed to check all of us in when that dimwit couldn’t was amazing.

This is a fitness club with a few hotel rooms. Not sure about the hotel but the fitness club is an overpriced cesspool of poor management and apathetic employees. Club employee didn’t arrive for the tour he sent a calendar invite for. Front desk is a bunch of gossipy middle aged guys who go through the email complaints that are sent then laugh about what was said. Middle school kids “work out” in the gym… which means they hog the machines while playing video games on their phones, then there’s old guys who spend all day here just to chat and occupy machines with towels. Rules aren’t enforced. So feel free to do whatever you want here, they don’t even check whether you’re a member, I’ve only signed in once, you can just walk right in… great security right? This place sucks hard… go to Equinox, they have standards they enforce. Management is just as uninspired as the staff, they were made aware of the concerns and did nothing to follow up or inquire. As an example.. here’s the posted Holiday Hours… guess when the gym actually closed on a Holiday (as posted)… sure wasn’t 9. A few examples of guys in jeans and unused machines occupied by old guys working out on 5 different pieces. Bags on the floor too… rules mean nothing here, nothing is enforced, do as you will.

This is a legit athletic club with the top 3 floors being a hotel. 10/10 would recommended. Clean, friendly, and very nice amenities. Picture is on the roof.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Los Angeles athletic club! Special shoutout to the reception staff who went out of their way to accommodate my requests and were super friendly. Sincerely hope you’re staying safe in the fire. Long live LAAC.

Avoid staying at this hotel. The quality of the rooms are not worth the price or service. Rooms are dated and old . Service is of poor quality.

Lovely hotel whether you want to stay active or not. Staff are super efficient and friendly. Sierra at the bar is the best! Nothing was too much trouble. I had a spin class that was like a PT session. The sauna and stream rooms are in the ladies locker room. This extra privacy was fab. Very close to the metro. Like anywhere in downtown LA you needs your wits about you when you leave the hotel.

Outstanding location in DTLA. Very helpful staff. Wonderful facilities -- especially the pool, gym, and bar/restaurant. Strongly recommended.

Seamless checkin with Melissa - first stay and will be back!

Sehr alte, schlecht gereinigte Zimmer. Pro Nacht werden 25 Dollar pro Zimmer für Fitnessraum etc. berechnet – ohne vorherige Ankündigung.

They need to work on their towel washing.

We went for 12/24-12/25. Kids wanted to swim for Christmas so we booked this hotel for indoor pool. |The staffs were very nice! They upgraded the rooms for us to suit rooms. The hotel and the sheets smell very nice! They have their unique scent that I loved. ||The text message that we can communicate with hotel was having some trouble. So it took pretty long time for them to reach back to us. ||The hotel seemed like it’s mainly for members. Not too kids friendly. They all wanted some quiet time alone. ||There are dry sauna, steam sauna and jacuzzi and plunge cold tub in locker room. |Big swimming pool areas. ||We got some coffee and muffins for breakfast at the cafe in the hotel, it was pretty pricy. ||They didn’t let us stay longer for late check out but we had a great time. ||Parking was $30/night self-park. ||They said memberships are initiation fee ~$750-800 and $225 for main person and adding spouse will be $125 a month. |Covers parking for $1/hr for up to 5hrs. ||The staffs were amazing. Hotel was old but well maintained!

What a gem - both, the place and the people.|This is a "working sports club" with the first 7 floors containing state of the art gym and sports facilities, squash and basketball courts, the most beautiful indoor swimming pool (beaux art) I have ever seen, not to forget the many fitness classes, which are included in the accommodation, a library to study/work in and a club room with opulent sofas , which serves excellent food and probably the best cocktails in town. There is also a sports-bar/pub, and a rooftop place, which is probably more vibrant in the summer (still nice to sit on in t-shirts in december overlooking downtown). ||But first and foremost, it is the staff which make this place special.|Many thanks to the front desk for accommodating us three (including my son who celebrated his 23rd birthday with us), even though I had made a big mistake and "only" booked the "deluxe" rather than the double-queen room - I very much hope they will let me come back for my next stay in LA.|Many thanks to the staff in the bar for accommodating all 15 of us for a special "burger night" on our last night there - they had to move a lot of the big chair and did this all with a big smile! |I was in 2 minds writing about this review, as the problem with writing about such a "wonderful place" is that it will no longer be a "secret hideaway".

racial discrimination happens quite often towards asians and latinas in the sauna by white women in the spa. lots of micro aggression going on verbally.

Beautiful old facility with incredible indoor Olympic pool and a great gym. In terms of the service it's kind of hit or miss. They don't quite have it working like a regular hotel. It was hard to get the room cleaned, yeah picked up etc. Overall we're really happy to have stayed here however. Just know it is quirky.

Incredible hotel, filled with hidden gems. Everything you need in 1 place if you enjoy a fit and healthy lifestyle. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff from the front desk to the restaurant. 10/10 experience. Any couple or family who enjoy health and fitness should stay here. However, beware. If you’re in LA to sight see.. you may not make it outside this amazing establishment.

We stayed at the Los Angeles Athletic Club and were initially happy with our experience. The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly. However, our stay ended on a frustrating note due to a poorly communicated charge. Upon check-in, a $250 deposit was placed on hold, and the staff informed us it was refundable. After checking out, $150 of that deposit was charged to us without any explanation at the time. I called the hotel to inquire and was told it was a “destination fee” that was mentioned in the booking details. Since I booked through Agoda, they claimed Agoda should have informed me in the confirmation email. After carefully checking my emails and the hotel’s page on Agoda, I couldn’t find any details of this fee is calculated. Regardless of their policy, the charge should have been explicitly mentioned during check-in, especially when holding such a significant deposit. Instead, the staff assured me it was fully refundable, which turned out to be misleading. It was incredibly disappointing that both the hotel and Agoda tried to shift the blame onto me for a lack of transparency. This experience left a bad impression, and I won’t be returning or recommending this hotel to others.

Wonderful historic hotel/club well maintained/remideled. Great staff, elegant historic rooms. On edge of the historic and renewed downtown. Fun dining.
