Went in for highlights, but got gaslights. Stephen said that I was unable to obtain both color and highlights at the same time, even though those were the services I had booked. He gaslit me and told me I could only have highlights if I endured a waiting period of several months. Ridiculous!

I’ve never been here before. I went on their website to book an appointment and booked “color all over” for 5pm because it was the only time slot they had available. When I got there, I explained that I wanted to dye my hair a light brown, because the color I have in it now is supposed to be a hazelnut brown, but over time it has become brassy and orange. The woman who was assigned to me explained that the color I wanted wasn’t possible because I needed to bleach my hair in order to achieve that look. I told her I don’t want to bleach it, but maybe I can dye my hair a solid brown color for now to at least get rid of the brassy orange I have. She told me she would put toner in my hair to lift off some of the orange coloring, and then from there she said there were other options like dying it a darker brown color, or balayage. I told her let’s do the toner and then we can take it from there and I’ll let her decide what to do since she’s the professional. She applied the toner to my hair and then clocked out for the day and left. Someone else came to wash my hair and when I asked her if anyone would be dying my hair, she wasn’t aware that I wanted to dye it, even though I booked my appointment for a full head of dye. Then they told me no one can dye my hair because it’s late. I don’t understand why they would have time slots available for 5pm if they know that no one will be there to do the job. After the toner came out of my hair, it looked exactly the same as it did when I had walked in. I left there looking the exact same as I did walking in, and had to pay $100 for literally nothing. I would never come back here again. Worst experience I’ve ever had. I came all the way from queens just to get my hair done and they made it seem like I got there too late and there’s nothing they could do. Mind you, I got there 40 mins early. Never again. The before and after photos look exactly the same in terms of color. All the really did was give me a wash and blow out.

My first experience was great! My second - not great. I explained to my colorist how dominant red my hair is and my blonde highlights are red. Which I hate but lesson learned. You’d think as a color specialist they would know how to color hair? My blow out was fabulous tho! ⭐️⭐️

Celia is one of my favorite colorists and stylists at Madison Reed Upper East Side. Her professional and warm demeanor is a delight and she always makes sure to chat with me before we do anything color wise. I always look and feel fabulous after she colors and blows out my hair! Highly recommend her and this location.

Celia was beyond amazing! I'm in my mid-50s, and she made my hair look as beautiful as it did when I was in college! She truly went above and beyond in listening to my concerns and caring about what I had come in for. Her kindness and professionalism are truly exceptional.

Everyone was very professional at this ues location. The colorist was excellent and very careful not to get any color on my skin. The wash was also very thorough. I will be coming back here.

I get my roots done every 2-3 weeks. The color is always perfect. I especially love the hairdresser Ariann. She is so professional and gives me the best shampoo I have ever gotten anywhere.Tatianaand Steven do great color. They are alway professional and great

I have been twice to Madison Reed 3rd avenue and Lexington. It is the Madison Reed I like the most. I recommend you to ask for Celia. She is one of the best hairdressers I encounter so far.

My sis and I always, ALWAYS go to Stephen James. He’s the greatest —greatest, most artistic colorist and the loveliest guy imaginable. His eye is perfect. I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my hair in my life. I’m on the stage a lot, and this really matters to me. Run to him !

Stephen James is the best! I really appreciate that he listens to what I ask for and does an amazing job of natural looking highlights and lowlights on my gray hair. The salon is different than most but I think he is terrific.

5 stars for Celia at the 89th St location!! I walked in Saturday night to ask how membership, app, & various services work and Celia was super informative and kind. She explained the membership options, answered my questions, showed me color options for matching my color, and booked my appointment for today. I just finished my service with Celia and it was excellent! Root application + gloss at same time. Comfortable and gentle application followed by a lovely, massaging wash by Celia. She then showed me the free products I can use, and offered me a selection of combs and brushes for me to blow dry my hair. The salon is set like a bar, clean and spacious with harsh smells. There is also a spacious bathroom and seperate wash area. The experience was easy, efficient, and enjoyable. Perfect for frequest root touchups. I booked my next service with Celia in 3 weeks!! 💯 reccomend and book with Celia!
