This shop is amazing, I've never been so impressed. The first girl tho, apparently had issue with the texture of my hair (I'm sure due to a lack of experience braiding Caucasian hair ) because when i tell you she was smiling right up to tha point when she turned her head and SAW ME....true story nothing says awkward like your hair dresser suddenly coming down with food poisoning and going home a quarter of the way thru your braiding session. She threw a straight fit and another lady who was already off work and planning to attend a pool party was nice enough to offer to stay late instead and take over for the girl who j-catted out. Thank you so much by the way!!! Mae was perfectly welcoming and had such a nice bright aura about her....she kept her cool and didn't miss a beat. Telling stories and making everyone laugh and feel more comfortable!! She was respectful and accommodating and i recommend her shop as my favorite in SOCAL!! NO EXAGGERATING! AND my braids were gorgeous,,!! Exactly the right hombre from dark to light blonde, curled ends and not so many it gets too heavy.... I piled them on my head so easily and they stayed nice and tight for along time, I'm still wearing them. I will be going back!!

I asked for Knotless braids and got home and realized they gave me box braids.. ridiculous. I will say they’re really sweet, kind, and friendly. They have good prices and will negotiate prices with you but I definitely did not want box braids. They’re suppose to be flat with NO KNOTS. That’s the whole point of KNOTLESS. I even showed them a picture of the style I wanted. They also don’t provide the hair like most salons. I went and bought the pre stretched Knotless hair.. that literally says KNOTLESS on the packaging but they still gave me box braids. A lot of salons just do whatever they want to do to your hair when they don’t know how to do the style.. when they can simply just say that they don’t know how to do it. I’m highly upset and unsatisfied.

I came here once while I was in the military and thought I'd try this place again and I will no longer recommend any military personnel or friends to this place. I got faux locs and I understand it comes with some discomfort but the braids was so tight it gave me welts and I couldn't get decent sleep without having to take advil and sleeping meds. There is another review about cost and that person was right, I was charged 250 and I bought the hair myself before appointment, when I had to take them down there wasn't uniformity for he braids and it caused me cutting my real hair out. I message them on their Instagram and was told I can only get a refund if an attempt is made to fix whatever issue and if for some reason isn't deemed not possible by stylist otherwise "it is out out of our control" and that was in their policy but here's the kicker THERE IS NO MENTION OF THAT IN EITHER DOCUMENT! There is no mention of the word refund so if you do choose to use their service use zelle or credit/debit card so that way you can dispute charges DO NOT USE CASH!!

I flew in from Florida to get my hair braided! I communicated with Mae on time of arrival and she accommodated me with no issues. I even made it before my 12pm appointment! I got my hair braided here 4 years ago for my wedding and the work is IMPECCABLE! I love it here!

I recently visited Mae’s salon, and I must say that I am absolutely thrilled with the results. The stylists at this salon truly worked their magic on my hair, and I walked out feeling like a million dollars. Not only did they listen attentively to my requests, but they also offered their professional advice, resulting in a hairstyle that exceeded my expectations. The salon has an inviting atmosphere, and the staff was friendly. I cannot praise them enough for their skill and expertise in making my hair look stunning. I highly recommend this salon to anyone in search of a wonderful braiding or weave experience.

Mae's business acumen is appreciated. WHAT HAPPENS HERE? Braids, locs, weaves, natural hair, nonethnic hair---Mae's can do it all. My go to is long knotless braids. Her salon stays clean and exudes warmth. A/C?...well...maybe... WHAT KIND OF STAFF IS IT? She hires highly qualified employees that understand braiding etc. is a craft. Her staff are professional and they get the job done in the most efficient time possible for the style you request. SHOULD I WASH MY HAIR FIRST? Because she's also a cosmetologist she is certified to do washing prior to braiding. However, that would be an additional fee. Rarely does someone have their hair washed before braiding AT the salon. But be respectful and wash your hair prior to getting your hair done. Okaaaay. Yet, if you're getting locs retightening or natural hair braiding, washing may be considered typical. All stylists smile and speak. Most speak English. Especially noted men love Mae's work. The best braider in San Diego!! Mad has been braider my hair for over 12 years and I still have all my edges!! She is extremely patient, friendly, talented and an artist at her craft. She does everything…. Weaves, box braids, individuals, dreads, French braids, tree braids, etc. her prices are incredibly reasonable. Very clean and professional hair salon. You will not be disappointed

Everyone tells me… “I love you Dreads!” Well Miss Mae is my secret weapon. I don’t get my dreads twisted… I get them Crocheted and trust me, not every Loctitian knows how to crochet. Miss Mae does it all. Also, not only is she top tier, every chair in her salon GETS DOWN. They can do it all and they’re not going to break your bank to do so. I’ve been going here for years always trusted her with my hair but I will not be back she overcharges for simple styles and overbooks. I don’t feel I got the time I needed for my appointment and I’m not satisfied with the service I still have to go somewhere else to get my hair done right. She is a sweet person but I wouldn’t recommend… especially if you want someone to have enough time for you.this is my honest review

Mae’s Salon is thee best in SD for dreadlocks, braids, perms, whatever it is you need. Mae & everyone who works here will take care of you with kindness & perfection. I’ve been going to her for about 10 years now & she’s never done me wrong. I was very tender headed when I first started going here & was very particular on who did my hair. I am no longer tender headed & don’t plan on going anywhere else to get my hair done. I highly highly HIGHLY suggest getting your hair done here.
