This is definitely a budget hair place I tried on a whim for a basic trim .If you’re used to more upscale salons I would avoid this place. For example, they literally just washed my hair and cut it while it was soaking wet. There was no dry cut finessing at all, which made it look I took a scissor and chopped off my ponytail. When I came back to get it fixed, I specifically requested Maria twice, on the phone and in person, and they gave me the same person to fix my hair (even though they confirmed Maria on the phone). Like why would I want the person who messed it up fix it?! It was full and I felt very uncomfortable so I made do but it felt unprofessional and sneaky (see pic for the final result of my ends). Overall, it was a horrible experience for me but two stars due to price ($65) and how everyone seems very friendly. But If you actually want a good haircut, I would stay far away.

I really wanted to like Maria's :( I went to add on a couple more pieces to my peek a boo blonde. They came out an uneven color (I had virgin hair) and did not go all the way up to root, leaving jagged lines. I went back to get them fixed and was given the same stylist. When I asked for her to just cover the whole thing back to dark brown, she only dyed the bleached parts, so I now have two different shades of brown in my hair. Overall, I spent $180 and about 5 hours at the salon to have worse hair than I started with.

Cynthia is the best! And I’m not just saying that cuz we share the same name lol. My highlights and cut come out perfect every time. So glad I found this place!

Girlies if you looking for good and affordable hair salon this is the place. I’ve been coming to this place for 4 years and my favorite hair stylist is Ana. I’m very picky when it comes to my hair and it is very hard for me to find someone who understands what I would like to have done how to cut it etc. She never disappointed me! From short cuts to long hair. From dark hair to highlights to balayage. I even did keratin on my hair with her. I’m very pleased with the outcome. Very friendly environment with positive energy so I wouldn’t think twice when it comes to book my appointment. Highly recommended

I’ve been a loyal customer of this salon for years, but after my most recent appointment, I’m absolutely devastated. The stylist burned my hair, leaving me with an inch of hair sticking up at the top of my head (right at the middle parting) and burnt sections all around. When I reached out to ask if there was anything that could be done to prevent further damage or help my hair, I was met with no apology - only responses like, "I don’t know how this happened" and "Maybe it was the toner." I guess I was hoping for more professionalism? I’ve always valued the care I received in the past, but this incident has completely shattered my confidence in their services.

Maria's Hair Salon is an absolute gem in Brooklyn. I was recommended to come here from a coworker and it is one of the best recommendations I have received. Ania is AMAZINNNGGG - I have come here twice, once for a half head of highlights, and most recently for a full head of highlights, and a cut and blow dry. Both times I have been SO HAPPY with my hair. Ania is truly a visionary, and I am so glad to have this salon to trust with my hair.

Please do not give curly-haired customers to stylists that do not know how to cut curly hair. I was supposed to get a cut from Anya yesterday (who is amazing) but was passed on to someone else who gave me a horrible haircut. She cut tons off in all the wrong places, and ignored my concerns expressed throughout the cut by saying "you said you wanted it shorter". My hair genuinely looks terrible. I asked for layers and it is completely choppy and unblended. I don't know how I'm going to be able to get this fixed without cutting much more hair off.

Amazing! I’m very particular with persons cutting my hair but the girl that cut my hair was amazing! She asked me my opinion each step of the way- as in asking me before she made a chop (told her to take off 4”). Price was very affordable aswell. I’ve found my place!

Can't recommend enough! Best salon I've been to in the city and I've tried several closer to me. The price was very reasonable and the stylist did exactly what I wanted. She cut the perfect length and perfect amount on my bangs. Will definitely be back for any future cuts!

I’ve been at Maria’s Hair Salon 5 times already and I won’t change it for anything. Anya is so caring and I love how they ask what you want and take their time to do what you need. My hair is growing so healthy. Is cash only, make sure you tip your hair stylist!!

Great service and good prices. I had my style done by Cynthia, amazing balayage, cut and dry. I really appreciated the previous communication. She explained to me the options and the prices of all, so no surprises at the end. I am very happy with the service and I will definitely come back.

I love Maria's Hair Salon!! I've been here three times now, and each time I go everyone there is always so kind and welcoming. The most recent time I went I realized when I got home I didn't like the hair style I chose, I went back in today and my stylist added face-framing layered pieces, and love my hair now! Also fixed it free of charge! Such an affordable place as well for a wash and haircut.

I got just a haircut, and the lady did a great job! She checked with me throughout to make sure it was the length and style I wanted. She even blow dried the ends, even though I didn’t pay for a wash and dry, so that I could see how it looked. Make sure to bring cash though, great little hair salon!

Worst haircut of my life. The male barber was extremely aggressive with my hair, chopping it super fast without any care. The wash probably lasted about 1 minute. He jabbed my head with the scissors multiple times by accident and also asked about my ethnicity. The cut ended up being incredible uneven, and he did not ask how short I wanted it before quickly chopping it all off. I cannot recommend this salon.

I unfortunately had a very disappointing experience during my last visit at Maria's Salon. I went in for a standard haircut and had Leo as my stylist. The whole appointment was very uncomfortable. I had only asked for a trim just to freshen up my long layers. He proceeded to handle my hair in a very aggressive manner. The whole time he was chopping at it without even looking at what he was doing and used thinning scissor so freely he ended up taking out all the thickness in my hair. After my appt my hair is completely uneven. The left side is so much shorter than the right and looks super piecey and thinned out. I have very thick hair that I take pride in and it was basically all chopped off. What made me the most uncomfortable was the things he was saying during the appt. I'm a Filipino woman and he went on and on about his most recent travels to the Philippines. It made me uncomfortable the way he tried to educate me on my own culture. He also talked about Filipino women in a very inappropriate way with the vulgar language he was using. Even though, my previous experience was very pleasant with one of there female stylists I will not be returning because of this incident. I left the appt feeling very uneasy and now don't have half my head of hair lol

Have been going to the same salon for years but decided to try for a more affordable local option and received my best haircut to date, especially working with bangs i’m particular about and stylist got it on first try with me. Anya was amazing. Wash/cut/blowdry for $65 is unbeatable, definitely coming back x

I had a fantastic experience the last time I came (see below), but sadly am updating my review to leave a review about my negative experience getting hair color with the male stylist (Leo). I felt that he was rude and abrupt when I was explaining what color I wanted, my hair was pulled so much that it *hurt* while he was bleaching it, the color had to be redone 2 times, and most importantly, hair dye was left on my shirt (see image) without anyone informing me (I found out when I got home). The hair dye doesn’t wash out so my shirt will be ruined permanently. _____________________ Absolutely GREAT experience here!! Cynthia cut my hair into curtain bangs with layers and then styled it as well. Amazing prices, great service, and I’ll definitely be going back! Cash only

Updating my review in 2024: I’ve had the two best blowouts of my life here in the past six months. Anna gave me a long layered haircut and a gorgeous bouncy blowdry in May. Then last week, I was running late for an appointment on the way to a photoshoot. Leo took me even though I was 20 mins late, gave me an incredible bouncy blowdry, and had me out the door on time for my photoshoot in 45 minutes! He was really friendly and kind. My favorite hair salon in Greenpoint! I have thick, wavy hair and I get it cut by Anna. She is great with my hair texture, always gives me a great cut, and is very friendly. And it’s very reasonably priced!
