Lucille Javier has been coloring my hair for 10 years now and has always nailed it with the coloring that I want (usually ashy grey- super hard to achieve on Asian hair!). She is very professional and has always made me feel comfortable as soon as I walk into the salon. If you’re looking for a solid colorist- make your appointment with her!

Mark Ryan is the best salon in New York! Mark is a fantastic colorist- I have been going to him for years - and I wouldn’t trust my hair with anyone else. The space is beautiful, clean, and warm, just like their amazing staff. Before they opened, I dreaded having to go to the salon for my monthly touchups. Now I look forward to it!

I did my hair color a while back with Mardi. It was a bright chestnut with highlights, which was beautifully done and lasted for a long time (see attached photo 3, face edited by Meta AI). People literally stopped me in the street to praise my hair. I would totally give her five stars! However, when I came here for another pink violet color with Lucille, it turned out quite disappointing. It looks more brown/chestnut than red when it first came out and she tried to convince me that’s how it should look like. I spoke to their owner, Mark, who later agreed to add a pink gloss to it after trying to convince me they couldn’t achieve what I wanted without bleaching. For background, it is a trendy color (see attached photo 1) in Asia that doesn’t need any bleaching according to thousands of social media posts. Mark tried to ask for the unique Asian products they used but turns out they only used Schwarzkopf to achieve it. What’s missing from the process is the right recipe for color mixing, which should include more purple than red to give it a cool tone instead of what I had as a warm tone. Despite that I translated the recipe into English and showed it to Mark, he disagreed and refused to do it…So I ended up with photo 2, which is still a reddish brown. They didn’t end up charging me for hair coloring. When I consulted other hair colorists (in the same neighborhood), they agreed with the recipe I provided to achieve what I wanted, especially adding purple to make it a cool tone. I think people at this place are nice, but they need to have a growth mindset, especially in admitting things that they don’t know about to begin with. Working with Asian hair seems to be their blind spot, although they can do other blonde styles proficiently. I’d suggest they take more time from their busy schedule to learn and experiment with new hair colors they’re unfamiliar with, if they thrive to be on top of this ever-changing field.

I had three appointments at Mark Ryan and love when Lucille does my hair! Last time, I asked for a rich chocolate brown, and she delivered the perfect shade. The entire experience was seamless—from start to finish, everything felt easy and relaxed. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommend if you’re looking for someone who truly listens and delivers amazing results!

I have fine hair and it can be a little tricky to cut and color. I moved houses and needed to find a new salon so I went to see Lucille for color and Nico for cut and style. I can't say enough great things about them. They give me what I want every time and give great suggestions. I get blonde highlights and depending on my mood I get peach, pink, or a gold gloss. I get compliments from everyone for weeks each time I get my hair done. I feel young and pretty whenever I walk out of the salon!

Not only is she amazing at getting what I’ve asked for right every time, but she makes sure my blonde matches my skin tone. Most importantly, she cares for the health of my hair. Lucille has been my colorist for over 10 years and I followed her to Mark Ryan Salon. I adore my visits with her, I feel like she listens to my hair concerns. And reels me back in when I want to do something completely crazy, all in the name of the integrity of my hair. (I have super curly hair) Lucille is incredibly passionate about her clients and it shows in her work. Her skills are top-notch, and I've recommended a handful of friends who have become long-term clients of her. Lucille is also a fantastic person in general, and you will love her!

Mark and Ryan have really done a great job at creating a salon that is beautiful, unpretentious and loaded with talent. Lucille is an incredible colorist that has worked on my color for years. Someone that I completely trust with my color. She totally gets what I want and does it so well without ever compromising the health of my hair. Colin is an amazing stylist. My hair always looks super healthy after his cuts and his blowouts are so dreamy.

My visit here was kind of strange. I sent Lucille pictures of someone she had done before whose hair color I wanted. I described that I wanted the same color which was a dark silver with hints of green and that I wanted it to be pretty subtle in that you have to glance for a moment to see the green. Instead, I got a very bright platinum blonde/green. Everyone has been telling me that my hair is just platinum blonde. She told me more of the silver would come out in washing but this did not happen. She had also said I looked like twins with a woman in the salon who got pink hair, only mine was green and I knew when she made that comment it was done wrong. The social media coordinator then took pictures of this woman and I together but didn’t use any of my shots which tells me it must be pretty bad. I ended up darkening my hair myself when I got home from the holidays. It is much closer to what I wanted but I shouldn’t have had to spend $160 (I have very short hair) at the salon on what everyone was calling platinum blonde which I could've done myself for $30, and then buy silver and medium blonde hair dye and neutralizing shampoo for me to fix it myself after. Attached photos of the bright color I got from Mark Ryan vs how I changed it after to better match the tone I asked for. At that point, it was too far gone to exactly match the photo I originally sent

A few years ago, I went to Mark after a MAJOR color disaster that left my hair jet black—(definitely not what I had wanted). I thought color correction would be impossible given how dark my hair was but Mark was an absolute color wizard and he managed to completely transform my hair and complete exceed my expectations. I no longer live in NYC, but I’ll always remember Mark’s incredible talent and the amazing work he did! Highly recommend! I do have pictures of the before and after but need to do some digging to find them. I also got amazing extensions here too. Will definitely go back if I am ever in NY! Thank you Mark what you did for my hair is something I will always remember :)

Got a full head of highlights done here today and very disappointed in the result. My old colourist who was amazing has moved out of NY so I thought I’d try a new salon and read great reviews of this one. My hair looked pretty good from the front when finished, but when I got home and checked the back I saw that almost nothing had been done to break up the roots at the back. It looks streaky, colour not blended together at all and really bad. Not at all what I would expect from a good salon, when paying $450+. Full head of highlights means the back should be done properly. I’ve never had highlights done this sloppy. I’m now going to have go to another salon this weekend to get it fixed.

I love LOVE LOVE Mark Ryan it’s probably my favorite place in nyc, Mark and Ryan have done it they have done exactly what should have always been done, invite all of NYC most talented artists/stylists into their beautiful space to grow together, each one of their stylist has their own unique talents and rich sense of creativity. The atmosphere at Mark Ryan is always buzzing with inspiration and innovation. It's a place where artists and stylists can come together to collaborate, learn from each other, and push the boundaries of their craft. Mark and Ryan have truly created a haven for the creative community in NYC, and I am grateful to be a part of it just as a client!!! The energy and passion that fill the space are truly infectious, and I always leave feeling inspired and ready to take on new personal projects. I’ve been coming here since they opened and I’ve always had a great experience. The front of house staff are super nice, and I just really love getting my hair cut by Aaron. It is a bit pricey but I consider it an investment on myself. Would recommend!

After seeing the awesome reviews, I decided to try this salon. I was paired with a bubbly stylist that was full of promises in the beginning. I now have to wait several months and splurge another $300 to repair her "masterpiece." After having actually been here, I now see that this establishment is a case of The Emperor Has No Clothes. Egoic fluff and no true substance. Upon entering, you are greeted with either overinflated egos who clearly do not know how to pair new clients to the right stylist or you are greeted with someone who is too afraid to say something. You are also greeted with ripped robes and a stench that is hard to get rid of. I've gone to the neighboring salons, it's not alright to have such horrible odor, even if dyes are used. Also, the salon is over crowded. I asked for a soft wash, the expert had no idea what that is. Then came my haircut. I asked to keep some of the long stands as I am tracking my color change. The stylist stopped short of calling me a weirdo, but said they do other weirdness. Tracking natural color changes is what I was taught to do by a smart stylist in the neighboring salon. After being laughed at under her breath, the stylist cut a few strands and was like ok, you are done. Are you joking? I provided a picture AND had a full discussion with her about exactly what I wanted. Nope. I had to direct her to cut here or there and she barely did anything. Also, sometimes I'd ask questions about this or that and no response. It's like she was out for coffee mentally. Promised to show me on Amazon which brush she used, nope. Also, my appointment way way too long and to have such a terrible result really is unfortunate. Two stars instead of one because I asked for my hair to be brushed gently, which really should be understood, and she did check in with me to make sure she was doing that. So not all was unfortunate. For those who have true understanding of what beautiful hair entails, I'd look elsewhere. There are two other salons on the block, I've used both. Both are better than this smelly, ego fueled mess.

Best salon in the world. I’ve seen Kim, Cassandra and Mark for color and I always walk out feeling great and receiving loads of compliments. I live in London but travel back to NYC for my hair bc it’s just so good. Highly recommend

Mark and Ryan have thoughtfully built a salon that not only leaves clients with the perfect hair color and style but an experience that is warm and welcoming. They are truly focused on the perfect color and style for every client. I have followed Mark since 2013 and have never had to come in for something to be fixed. It’s also no surprise that Mark and Ryan’s kindness and professionalism lured world renowned make-up artist Landy Dean to the salon. Since Landy started doing my make-up in 2014, I have trusted no other. His eye makeup application is exceptional. I recognize myself but I could never do what he does myself.

My first visit in a US salon since I moved from Paris. So I cannot really know if this is a country difference or specific to that salon. The staff and colorists are very nice and propose a nice refreshments. But then I am really not happy with the experience hair care wise. I can only compare to France. First the price is insanely high but I knew it before coming the Nyc price range is way higher than Paris. For that high price I was expecting a top top quality service. I expected all the little extra things. In my previous salon in Paris city center I used to pay 200/250 all included and for that I had a great blond balayage + blending the roots + top hair massage with a hot towel and very nutritive hair masks. The chair was either massaging or at least you could have your feet lifted up. I had a tea with a little sweet treat. It was very relaxing. But at this Nyc salon your on a very very basic seat there is no special additional extra care at all, your feet are standing in the middle of the corridor people are often bumping on it. The balayage/color blond technique is super different. I felt it was not blending at all especially in the front we can very much see the color straps, the roots are way too dark too visible and the blond looked almost a little greyish. But also thought my hair were not revived at all meaning that they were not extra soft, super nourished as I used to feel after a hair appointment. Here just as dry as before the care. Also the products used have the most chemical and worst smell ever I thought they were putting straight out a powerful toilet bleach on my head. I came to the address not knowing where to go and wanting the best of the best willing to pay for it big price. I did pay the big price for sure but did not thought the service was at the top level expected at all.

Colin is the BEST!!! I have had very bad experiences with haircuts in the past so I tend to get anxious when getting my hair cut. Colin understood exactly what I wanted and left my hair looking healthier than ever on top of being super friendly! I have gotten a bunch of compliments on it! Obsessed, definitely recommend.
