Nicole is a wonderful stylist! I appreciated that she took the time to explain things to me in detail about the color and cut I wanted. She was also transparent about pricing. The prices are a bit steep (I paid just over $400 before tip for a partial balayage, toner treatment, and haircut), but the service and quality balance it out.

Nicole is amazing! By far the best balayage I've ever had. I have dark brown hair so balayage and highlights in the past have either looked fake, killed my hair, or were "natural looking" but almost nonexistent after multiple hours and hundreds of dollars. I explained what I wanted, and she did an even better job than I could have imagined. I'll gladly admit I'm very particular when it comes to makeup and hair. It's natural without being underwhelming, and it's detailed, polished work that didn't eat up half my day. She is the first stylist that superseded my expectations. I also loved the products and the treatments she recommended - my hair has never felt healthier, and I'm not struggling to comb through it after I shower. The salon's product prices were the same as what I found online, so I'm happy to support a local business. Also love that they renovated an old auto repair shop - it's a unique, urban local spot with bright, natural light.

Its a great place with high quality stylists. My only issue is that they force you to tip - when you pay they just turn around a separate tipping machine that then also ADS ON MORE via taxes and stand there watching. Tipping is an *optional* discretionary gratuity - if the salon owner is not paying you a proper wage, don't force your customers to pay for you on top of paying for expensive services.

Highly recommend Franki at Maven for cut and color! Franki has been my stylist for a few years now and she's the best. My hair is very fine and no one gives it shape like Franki! I have had root shadows, gloss, and balayage done by her as well, and always leave looking and feeling beautiful! Maven is a great salon, beautifully done space. Modern feel, but still relaxed and roomy. There is a great coffee shop right outside. Street parking is not a problem to find nearby.

I had a great experience with Sydney who did an amazing balayage on my curly hair! I have never had my hair professionally colored before and Sydney took the time to answer all my many questions and alleviated my worries. She helped me figure out what I wanted and then absolutely crushed my expectations. I’ve gotten a lot of really sweet compliments since. Sydney and the Maven team were so friendly and professional, I’ll definitely come back :)

Amazing experience with Nicole Cournoyer at Maven. My favorite balayage, hands down, I've ever received, and I've been getting balayage for roughly the last 10 years. :) I found Nicole and the salon through Google and her work on instagram (@nkc_hair) while visiting in San Diego. Nicole had a warm, relaxed, inviting energy and she made space and time for me to show her and explain to her what I was hoping to accomplish without feeling rushed. She listened intently and presently, and she asked all the right questions to ensure I felt heard. She was very communicative and transparent about process, vision, pricing and how everything would work which eased any questions. Talking to her was a pleasure, and I absolutely LOVE my hair. She nailed the vision I was hoping for; my hair also feels super healthy which was important to me with going blonder. Overall, she was a joy to chat with, she finished my hair in about 2 hours, which is record timing for any balayage I've had, and my experience did not feel rushed at all. She accomplished the exact vision I wanted with ease and confidence. Will 100% be back when I officially make the move to SD. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful, natural balayage and great customer service! (The salon is also beautiful, clean and filled with plants and light, very inviting.)

Moved to SD and was very nervous about getting my hair colored as it was only the third time I’ve ever put color in it. Jess was recommended to me by a friend and couldn’t have asked for a better turn out. She did exactly what i wanted. 10/10 will be back!

I got my hair done today by Frankie and had a wonderful experience. I really appreciated her consultation, being up front about prices, and the outcome of my hair was phenomenal- exactly what I envisioned and more! Definitely will be returning. I recommend Frankie for haircuts and blonde coloring (this is what I got done!).

100000/10 recommend this salon!! The owner, Jess is the sweetest and her staff as well. It’s really hard finding a salon that can handle curly hair but Jess took great care of my curls and gave me exactly the color I wanted.

First time at Maven salon, and first time getting my hair professionally done and i can absolutely say this was my best experience ever. I had Nicole as my stylist, she was so nice, explained all the pricing and helped me make the right choices on my hair. I have never felt so confident, i absolutely love my hair.

Really wanted to like this salon, but the balayage and cut I received are the worst I've gotten in San Diego while being the most expensive. The salon itself is pretty cute and has very limited street parking outside, but that's the only positive I experienced. So sad to not like your hair after spending this much money ($600+ with tip!!), and even worse when the stylist completely refused to let me come back in and take a look to fix it. Beyond unprofessional and not at all what I expect at this price point or from any stylist regardless.. Save your money, time, and frustration and go somewhere else. Do not recommend at all :(

So long story short, I had a traumatic chemical hair cut 2 years ago in a different state and was very nervous and hesitant about letting someone touch my hair again. I have pretty fine Asian hair with not a lot of density so I was really worried about my hair breaking off again or being brassy. I was assured by the owner that I’d come to the right place. I was fortunate enough to see Raeden at Maven Salon. He surpassed all my expectations for my lighter color while maintaining the strength and integrity of my hair. I will for sure be back to see him again and I suggest you go and see Raeden for all your hair needs. You won’t be disappointed.

This is my go to place! No one takes care of and slays my hair like Raeden! I have thick, coarse Asian hair and up until I found Maven Salon, I couldn’t really find anyone who could handle cutting my hair. It would always come out uneven. If you’re looking for a new go to salon and stylist, go see Raeden. You will not be disappointed! 100% recommend!

I absolutely, will come back to Maven Salon. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. . I wanted a nice style for my Mother's Day.and birthday. During my hair washing I received one of the best head and neck massage.( I even fell asleep) The Energy at Maven is natural and full of positive energy with every one smiling. Jessica the owner gave me a special haircut and style . Makes one feel so beautiful and important. I recommend Maven . You will walk away with a Big Smile 😀 👍❤️😊😊😊

I followed Jess from Rinse Salon to this sister location at Maven Salon. I had been going to Rinse for 2.5 years since I moved here. Highly recommend Jess for color/balayage! She has hand-painted my hair twice now and has done a phenomenal job each time; took me from dark brown to a beautiful honey colored balayage in just one session, and my hair stayed perfectly healthy and hydrated. The color grows out so naturally and is very dimensional! I won't go to anyone else for my balayage! Two weeks ago I made an appointment for a last-minute cut/style before a birthday celebration the same day. Brittiany did a bomb job! I have long fine hair but A LOT of it, and Brittiany tackled it with ease. Seriously perfect style that I was looking for and that lasted all evening. Thanks girl!

I got my hair cut by Brittiany when she was at Rinse Salon and she mentioned she was going to a sister salon named Maven. Well, I loved that hair cut, so I had to follow her to Maven! This salon is absolutely beautiful, so bright and tastefully decorated. Definitely book a haircut with Brittiany at this salon! She is the best!

I highly recommend Maven Salon! Brittiany is wonderful—she cut my long hair into a chin length bob and made it feel so easy. It’s been a few weeks now and the cut looks just as good freshly styled as it does air dried or a few days dirty. The space itself is beautiful—light and airy; the kind of place you just want to just hang out in. I definitely plan on returning!

I was missing my stylist in NYC, but hesitant to try someone new. I finally decided to try Maven after a recommendation. I figured worst case scenario I was headed to NYC and my stylist there could fix it. Happily though I don’t need to go to NYC To get my hair cut!! Fun clean place! Will definitely be going back!

I've been to Maven Salon on two separate occasions (once just for a cut and second for cut and balayage ) and booked each time with Jess. I couldn't be happier with the cut and balayage. As a curly girl it's hard to find a stylist that understands how to cut, style, and color my hair because I like to wear it both straight and curly. I am so thankful Jess took time to ask how I normally style my hair. Her level of service is outstanding and I felt well taken care of the entire time (thank you Jess!). My hair each time has come out awesome, the second time I went I got balayage and wanted it to look natural which is exactly what I got! The cut is a good blend of modern and ease as I wanted something I could easily style for both curly and straight. Lastly, Maven's space is a cool mix of mid century modern and luxury I felt pampered the entire time I was there.

Jess is truly the best. I moved to San Diego 2 years ago, was lucky enough to find her at her original salon a few months into my stay and have been hooked to her talent and energy ever since! She is always consistent, friendly and welcoming. Everyone should check out her incredible, beautiful new salon Maven! Just came to Maven for the first time to get a blowout and style by Jess and cannot express how great my experience was!!! I have mixed girl hair with a brazilian blowout in and Jess styled my hair just the way I wanted it. It was so quick and relaxing. The salon is right behind a cute coffee shop if you want to grab one before your appointment. 10/10 recommend Jess for any hair needs!! ❤️

Omg Brittiany is AMAZING!!!!! Visited Maven salon after my previous hair dresser cancelled (which I am happy about) because I may not have found Maven! I had my appointment 2 days before leaving for our wedding, so I was definitely stressed. But after reading amazing reviews and from the moment I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. She literally did hair magic and I can’t wait to go back to see Britt for future appointments! My color is beautiful (she did a bleach and tone to get rid of the yellow blonde) and it looks fantastic! So excited for my wedding color!

I found my way to Maven from a referral and was nervous about getting my hair colored for the first time. Visited Maven salon for my first time today and absolutely loved it. Nicole was my hair stylist and she took the time to explain pricing and the difference between balayage and full highlights (I went with full highlight) and she did a beautiful job!! This is probably the most I’ve ever liked my hair so thank you Nicole!!! The salon itself is clean, open, and best of all- right next to dark horse coffee so you can grab a cup before you walk in. 10/10 recommend
