I’ll say this- as a banya goer for over 30 years, it’s UNBANYA-LIKE to have a time limit on people’s stays. The owner mentioned in a previous review that it was one of the only Banyas that didn’t increase their price after covid, but that’s simply not true- it’s actually a heavy price tag for a place you can only spend 3/4 hours in. Having to reserve time slots to go to a banya makes the whole experience feel rushed and unwelcoming. Increase your prices like the rest of the world and allow people to relax for the day. This isn’t some beauty spa.

Best russian banya in Brooklyn. I just wish they would open up in staten island. Verizanno Bridge and belt Parkway can be a hassle.

I heard many great things about Mermaid Spa, was excited to come here for first time. Before I get into review, I just want to preface my comment and say that I know just how stressful it can be to work at the front desk of a busy business. I myself spent many years handling the front desk of a small business, it can get stressful for sure. That said, the customer service I received was less than satisfactory. I had made a reservation a week in advanced to come for my birthday yesterday. Because of snowfall on day I chose to go, trains were delayed and I arrived maybe 40 min into my 4 hr time block. I had some friends who traveled 1.5 hrs to get to spa, also delayed on train, we arrived at same time. While I was given ok to enter, my friends had unfortunately not made reservations and were told it's full. Totally understandable. I asked what's the earliest they can enter, was told way later at 8pm. Again, understandable. I asked if we could wait to see if anything opens, was told it's unlikely. In which case, I decided it's best to leave and get food since my friends came such a long way. I tried asking if I could get a credit for my purchase so that I can come back another day just myself to enjoy the spa. I was NOT asking for a refund, just a credit to return another time. The response I got back was very rude, I got a lecture telling me I "have to understand that you took up a time slot and other people can't come in now" and that because of that there will be no credit. I was only asking to have my name removed from the time slot so I could free up the remaining 3hrs in my time window for someone else, and so I could reschedule for another day to use my purchase, but received no such accomodation. So I told the lady at the front to keep the money and we left. Like I said, working a front desk can be a tough role, I get it, and we all have rough days. I would just like to give a little constructive feedback... Please consider offering credits for customers in the future if they would like to reschedule, and a little bit of slack... it's a busy city and a little flexibility goes a long way.

The sauna is not bad, you can spend time and relax. But the service is terrible, there are only 2 waiters for the whole hall!!! We were treated rudely literally from the first second we approached to get the menu. I don't have complaints about the rude waiters, but more about the management. It's physically impossible for only 2 people to serve such a large hall, please increase the staff. Sitting for 40 minutes (out of the 3 hours we reserved) at a dirty table waiting for a waiter, and then being told "you shouldn't have sat at a dirty table, you should have waited a little" (apparently 40 minutes isn't enough) – this is unacceptable!!!

Это просто ужас, никогда и ни за что не ходите в это ужасное место, персонал наглый, грубый и бестактный. Плолотенца все грязные, еда с волосами. Будем искать другое место, более приятное, руководству нужно задуматься по поводу ведения своего бизнеса. Ужас, мрак и позор. This is just awful, never and under no circumstances go to this awful place, the staff is impudent, rude and tactless. The towels are all dirty, the food has hair. We will look for another place, more pleasant, the management needs to think about running their business. Horror, darkness and shame.

UPDATE: Instead of fixing issues, they BLOCK people for negative reviews! That’s hilarious :) Original feedback: The service is horrible. 👎 I’ve been visiting this sauna for a few years and you have to earn the right to be seen by the waiter. Hard to catch, little to no explanation of the menu and some of them just rude. Not everyone, but overall service is awful. That’s why we decided not to order anything and just use bath. But today the receptionist lady was rude to us AGAIN because didn’t buy tickets online. Previously, they did not allow us to enter when we arrived 20 minutes earlier. Also, they start cleaning the saunas at 9.15-9.30. So do not expect to use them after that time… The fun part that the owner is often there, and he sees everything! I don’t understand this, he is just losing money. 🤷‍♂️

We have been going to Mermaid Spa for the last 17 years and hands down this is the BEST spot to unwind and relax after a stressful day. We usually come in every Thursday or Fridays and I can’t think of a better place to be to achieve an healthy balance and peace of mind all while developing a greater understanding of the self. The atmosphere is truly inviting, great food and the most attentive/caring servers- Tanya, Yuriy and Vova. In all, I’m glad I have found a gem of a place so close to home!! Keep up the amazing work guys!!

Сегодня по-настоящему начался Новый год,мы добрались до нашего любимого spa ,где нас встречают ,как дома ,удивительно доброжелательный коллектив ,пересекая порог этого места ,мы забываем обо всем,теплая атмосфера,созданная владельцами в альянсе с профессиональным коллективом,повара ,официанты ,массажисты ,еще раз хочется сказать всем спасибо за профессионализм и уютную ,заботливую атмосферу!

“I’ve been going to this sauna since I was a child, and it truly feels like home. Living in Sea Gate, this has always been our go-to spot. The atmosphere is unmatched, offering a warm, welcoming, and family-oriented vibe that’s hard to find anywhere else. Finally Spa has always had an open heart for me and my family, and we feel so cared for every time we visit. We usually go on Thursdays and Fridays, and the service is consistently excellent. The food is not only delicious but also very healthy, which adds to the overall experience. I couldn’t imagine recommending any other place—this is hands down the best spot for relaxation and wellness. Thank you for always making us feel at home!”

I definitely do not recommend it. Customer satisfaction is zero. The waiter does not even look at the customers' faces when ordering. That is why we gave up ordering. We went as a group of 6 and had guests with us. We were completely disgraced. I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.

I went here in December on a Tuesday weekday and had a great time. The sauna and steam rooms were hotter than anything I have experienced, and once I was brave enough to do the cold plunge I loved it. The meal was delicious, especially with icy cold beers in a glass after going in the sauna. Highly recommend! Don’t forget to bring flip-flops so you don’t have to buy them.

Very strong Russian saunas due to frequent individual sauna beating with oak brooms which heat up the room pretty quickly. Most people buy brooms at the front desk and warm them up for 35 min in lukewarm water first. Steam room is also one of the strongest in NY. Overall the place has a great layout with an ice cold plunge and a large jacuzzi. Food and drinks are delicious as well.
